SHELLDER’S GATE

If Pokémon had RPG classes, what would they be? With those, what kind of Pokémon would have those classes? Shellder’s Gate was made to answer these questions.

Slates will be divided into two categories: Class and Pokémon
Each class slate is based on a stat (HP, Atk…). At the end of each of these slates, 2 classes will be created by the community by adding specific restrictions to those classes. One restriction is guaranteed in every slate: the Pokémon’s highest stat must be the state the slate is about. For example, say that in the Special Attack slate, someone submits the Pyromancer class, stating that aside from having SpA as its highest stat, any Pokémon designated in the Pyromancer class must either start with being a Fire type or using a Fire type move effectively. At the end of each slate, 3 classes will be created, one with the sole restriction of the highest stat, and two with submitted restrictions. Note that with each class restriction, including the initial stat one, you must note whether you can only submit Pokémon that already fit that specific role or you can change any Pokémon to fit it.
Pokémon slates come after every class slate, and modders can submit up to 2 Pokémon in either of the modder-made classes and up to 3 in the base class, for a total of 7 Pokémon. To create a qualifying Pokémon, you should take a Pokémon that already fits the bill/and or find a mon you want to edit to fit and buff it to around a Gen 9 OU level. You can buff these mons in any way, from stats to types to moves to abilities to even custom items. An example would be to submit to the Pyromancer class by slapping on Skeledirge and calling it a day, or taking the Will-o-wisp user Rotom and making it faster and tankier to burn foes more consistently and maybe even live afterward to continue later.
More Details:
-This is a natdex micrometa, so you can use any Pokémon as a base to submit, but this meta will otherwise exist on its own.
-Terastalization’s banned
-Custom abilities, moves, and items may be allowed at the council’s discretion if they fit the submission, and custom and non-custom abilities, moves, and items can be tied to class restrictions as well.
-At least one class restriction must state that the edited Pokemon must already embody that restriction before editing the mon.

Custom Elements:
Justification:
Primary Stat: Special Attack (B) (please mark B for before or A for after next to the primary stat, this may be the first limited in which Pokémon you can use for the slate, but regardless the Pokémons’ highest stat must be the one listed here)
Extra Restrictions before Pokémon phase:
-
This Pokémon must already normally use a Fire move (reminder that it’s mandatory to have one restriction required of a Mon before they’re edited)
- This Pokémon must start with at least one of the following types: Fire, Psychic, Dragon, Ghost, Electric
Extra Restrictions in Pokémon phase:
-
This Pokémon may only end up having the following types: Fire, Psychic, Dragon, Ghost, and Electric (The Pokémon you submit doesn’t initially need to have two of these types, but you must give them two of these types, or one if you go for one type)
Description/Justification: Use this to explain why there should be multiple Pokémon that fill this role. Perhaps it’s a roundabout way to get Will-o-wisp mons, or there’s just not enough of the aforementioned types. Maybe a special attacker with a fire move would serve as a good wall breaker against a defensive Steel type threat. Just remember that you should give your Classes purpose, and here’s where you can explain that purpose.
:sv/Skeledirge:
Class: Pyromancer (remember that there will be 3 classes to choose from in every Pokémon phase)
Type: Fire / Ghost (previously Fire/Ghost) (If required by the class restrictions you may want to mark what type the Mon had prior to editing. This fits both type-based criteria)
Stats: 104 HP / 75 Atk / 100 Def / 110 SpA / 75 SpD / 66 Spe (530 BST) (Skeledirge’s highest stat is naturally SpA, which completes that restriction, and I left its stats unchanged because it’s already really damn good)
Abilities: Blaze, Unaware
Move Changes:
+
N/A
- N/A
Custom Elements: N/A
Justification:
Here’s where you may list out the completed but not yet mentioned restrictions, such as Skeledirge using Torch Somg in base sets, and where you can explain why this Mon specifically would fit the class well. Perhaps beyond needing a wall breaker with a Fire move it would have to deal with a Swords Dancing Water type, so Unaware may let it take a hit when another fire Mon otherwise wouldn’t.

Here’s an example without the long-winded explanations. It’s also my first sub
:throh:
Primary Stat: HP (A)
Extra Restrictions before Pokémon phase:
- Every Pokémon you use for this class must already have a trapping move, trapping ability, Seismic Toss, or Circle Throw
Extra Restrictions after Pokémon phase:
- The Pokémon in this class must end up having at least one of the following types: Normal, Fighting, Grass
- Every non-contact trapping move that this Pokémon gets must be replaced by an identical move (with a different name) that makes contact
Description/Justification: From Dugtrio to Heatran to Grapploct, the sole “before” restriction leaves a lot of Pokémon to start with next slate. However, trapping can still prove threatening, so I made it so they’re tied to a Normal, Fighting, or Grass typing and their trapping moves like Magma Storm won’t be immune to stuff like Rough Skin, Gooey, or Static (unless you’re making Decidueye but we’ll get there when we get there)

:dondozo::emboar: :arcanine-hisui:
Primary Stat: HP (A)
Extra Restrictions before Pokémon phase:
- Must have access to one of these moves Wave Crash, Explosion, Self Destruct, Head Smash, Brave Bird, Double Edge, Misty Explosion, Wood Hammer, Flare Blitz, Steel Beam, High Jump Kick, Jump Kick, Axe Kick
- HP as their highest or second highest stat
Eligible Pokémon: :Dondozo:,:Basculegion:, :Palafin:, :Regidrago:, :drifblim:, :coalossal:,:lickilicky:, :Reuniclus:, :muk:,:muk-alola:, :garganacl:, :swalot:, :skuntank:, :lunatone:,:Shiftry:, :mew:, :glalie:, :wailord:, :snorlax:, :wigglytuff:, :solrock:, :emboar:, :relicanth:, :rampardos:, :great-tusk:, :donphan: , :drednaw:,:arcanine-hisui:,:Braviary-hisui:, :mandibuzz:, :noctowl: , :Braviary: , :corviknight: , :blissey:, :chansey:, :Cetitan: , :slaking: , :ursaluna: , :lapras: , :vaporeon: , :dudunsparce: , :dunsparce: , :lanturn: ,:bewear: , :farigiraf: , :copperajah:, :gogoat:, :entei: , :oinkologne-f: , :mamoswine: , :Whiscash: , :walrein: , :garchomp: , :kangaskhan: , :Wyrdeer: , :jirachi: , :celebi:, :victini: , :exploud: , :audino: , :mudsdale: , :passimian: , :suicune: , :tropius: , :swampert: , :clefable: , :krookodile: , :quagsire: , :exeggutor: , :silvally: , :ampharos: , :granbull: , :dewgong: , :politoed: , :nidoqueen:, :pidgeot: , :Flygon: , :bibarel: , :Musharna: , :azumarill: , :scream-tail: , :aromatisse: , :rillaboom: , :darmanitan: , :centiskorch: , :excadrill:, :Stunfisk-galar:, :annihilape: , :solgaleo: , :melmetal: , :arceus:, :xerneas: , :darmanitan-galar: ,
Extra Restrictions after Pokémon phase:
- The Pokémon in this class must end up having at least one of the following types: Normal Steel Rock Water Fairy Grass Fire Flying (Types with distributed “recoil” moves 100 bp or greater)
- Must be given a recoil move it can effectively use (Ie usage in its main set) can be custom
-The Pokémon’s next highest stat must be an offensive stat
-Ability must be related to either recoil moves, or conservation/recovery of hp or health related effects (Magic Guard, Rock Head, Regenerator, Reckless, Aftermath or a custom that relates, I.e. leftovers as an abil)
Description/Justification: while not having many in game examples, a class that has bull but utilizes a recoil move would be pretty cool. Obviously these will be largely physical attackers but there is the option of a steel beam user. This will also take up the bulk of cringe regenerator mons by making them cool offensive regen mons gg. Barbarians are often defined by their high health and reckless tendencies

:goodra: :blissey: :muk:
Primary Stat: HP (A)
Extra Restrictions before Pokémon phase:
- Every Pokémon you use for this class must be blob shaped or slimelike
Eligible Pokémon: :electrode: :electrode-hisui: :muk: :muk-alola: :blissey: :ditto: :weezing: :weezing-galar: :goodra: :goodra-hisui: :castform: :reuniclus: :melmetal: :dipplin: :polteageist: :sinistcha: :tangrowth: :slurpuff: :wailord::musharna: :Clodsire: :octillery: :jellicent: :wobbuffet: :spiritomb: :clefable: :guzzlord: :wigglytuff: :snorlax: :lickilicky: :bellibolt: :scream-tail: :Pyukumuku: :dudunsparce: :swalot: :driftblim:
Extra Restrictions after Pokémon phase:
- The Pokémon in this class must end up having at least one of the following types: Normal, Poison, Fairy, Steel (based off of Liquid Metal slimes from dragon quest), Water
- HP must be their highest stat, and the total of their defenses must equal the total of their offenses
-One Ability must have some correlation to an immunity of any kind
-Another must be a form of contact punish
Description/Justification: there are a lot of blob Pokémon it would be silly if we made them bulky

Nymph
Primary Stat: HP
Extra Restrictions before Pokémon phase:
- This Pokemon must utilize a healing move effectively.
- The user must be either a Grass-type, Fairy-type, or be in the Fairy egg group.
Extra Restrictions in Pokémon phase:
- The user must have at least one healing move in their moveset, excluding Rest.
- The user must have its next highest stat be one of its defenses.

Description/Justification: nymphs are greek mythological deities that are personifications of nature. nymphs are often tied to a specific part of nature, whether it's the ocean (nereids), mountains (oreads), or the oak trees (dryads). the nymph class is one that is composed of bulky support pokemon and/or clerics. pokemon such as clefable, the tapus, blissey, and comfey fall into this role.

Extra Restrictions in Pokémon phase:
- Must have an HP stat of 120 or higher and must have it as its highest stat.
- Must have one of the following types: Dragon, Fighting, Ground, Normal, Rock, Steel

Description/Justification: Great behemoths that tower over their opponents and can take a beating. The types chosen are very fitting to the giants' physical nature or are dragon which... well those are big. A lot of these pokemon are legendaries as you may expect from foes this massive, but some of them are just big guys. In general, giants will play as tanks or walls, but risk lacking in speed.

:slowking-galar: :toxapex: :sinistcha:
Primary Stat: HP (A)
Extra Restrictions before Pokemon phase:
-This Pokemon must be part Dark, Poison, Grass, Water, Fairy, Ghost or Psychic type
-This Pokemon must have a recovery move
Extra Restrictions after Pokemon phase:
-This Pokemon must be a combination of Dark, Poison, Grass, Fairy, Water, Ghost or Psychic type
-This Pokemon must be able to run status moves viably, or moves with secondary effects viably, or both
-This Pokemon must have a recovery move
Description/Justification:
In popular culture, alchemists are people who make potions, items and concoctions out of magical elements, herbs, minerals, etc, with the purpose of obtaining strength, power, intelect, but most importantly, eternal life, given by the philosopher's stone, in rpgs, or medieval fantasy games, these are able to heal and buff their allies, creating potions and such to do it, while causing many status effects against their opponents, i thought it would be fine to make it the HP class cus of its role as a healer and support in most rpgs, Pokemon that can have this role are Galarian Slowking, Sinistcha, Hatterene, Toxapex, Clodsire, Appletun and many more!

Primary Stat: HP (A)
Extra Restrictions before Pokémon phase:
-Must have Wish, Revival Blessing, or a "Faint and fully heal teammate" move.
Extra Restrictions in Pokémon phase:
-Must want to run a supportive pivot playstyle
-Second highest stat must not be an offensive stat
-Must be part Ghost, Fairy, Psychic, or Dark.
Description/Justification
Open ended sub that fits a lot of mons, plus HP synergizes rlly well with Wishpassing. Based on characters that summon minions in RPGs, as bringing in a full health teammate that was previously fainted/low HP is basically summoning/necromancy.

weird ass sub. if any class gets vetoed its gonna be this
Primary Stat: HP
Extra Restrictions before Pokémon phase:
- This Pokemon must have a "special" type (special types are defined as anything with Special moves before Gen IV, which includes the following: Fire, Water, Ice, Electric, Poison, Grass, Dragon, Dark, and Psychic. Fairy counts as special for these purposes.)
- This Pokemon must learn a Special move above 120 BP.
Extra Restrictions in Pokémon phase:
- This Pokemon must share a type combination with a Pokemon classified as a Legendary, Mythical, or Ultra Beast.
- This Pokemon must learn a move above 120 BP (does NOT have to be Special)
- This Pokemon's highest stat must be HP.
Description/Justification: Restrictions ass sub to start off lets GOO! The word "avatar" originates from Hinduism, where it's used to describe a manifestation or incarnation of a deity, and is now commonly used as a term to describe any incarnation of a concept or divine force. The Pokemon phase restrictions come from being the "manifestation" of a Legendary, sharing a type with them, and wielding their awesome power in the form of strong moves. The pre-phase restrictions come from the likely high psychic stress of being an Avatar, requiring high Special capability and an inclination to Special over Physical.

Primary Stat: HP (A)
Extra Restrictions before Pokémon phase:
- This pokemon must learn: Wish, Heal Bell, Aromatherapy, Healing Wish, Lunar Dance, Heal Pulse, Pollen Puff, Life Dew, or Jungle Healing.
Extra Restrictions in Pokémon phase:
- This pokemon must have at least 100 base HP
- This pokemon must not want to use Calm Mind, Quiver Dance, Bulk Up, Curse, Victory Dance, or Iron Defense.
- This pokemon must want to use Wish, Heal Bell, or Aromatherapy
Description/Justification: Cleric is a common name for a healer class. The term is already used to describe some pokemon sets. This class aims to create Wish passers, although if you'd rather just make a team status healer that is an option too.

Primary Stat: HP (A)
Extra Restrictions before Pokémon phase:
- Pokemon must be canine or canine-like in nature (Something like Mightyena would count even though hyenas aren't actually canids, for example) and/or be in the Human-Like Egg Group and/or have a bipedal, tailess form.

Extra Restrictions in Pokémon phase:
- HP must be highest, Attack must be its 2nd highest.
- Must be part Dark, Grass, or Normal types and/or use a move of those types effectively.

Description/Justification: A common enemy in tabletop games, some games go the extra mile and give this option to player characters. HP stat primary because even at their weakest, they're still pretty beefy, especially for a normal human to go against.

EDIT: Loosened up restrictions in the pre-phase with the inclusion of Pokemon of a certain body type. Opened up type restrictions in the Pokemon Phase.

Please signify whether Pokémon in this class must have their HP be their highest stat before or after the Pokémon phase.
This submission is technically legal, but I want to note that if it’s approved then two Pokémon will be made using these class restrictions. Therefore, vetoing it will give you more time to open up type restrictions
Please signify whether Pokémon in this class must have their HP be their highest stat before or after the Pokémon phase.
Bloodletter
Please signify whether Pokémon in this class must have their HP be their highest stat before or after the Pokémon phase.

To further elaborate, as it is required, the “before and after” rule states you must signify whether the Pokémon you sub for this class already need to have HP as their highest stat, or if you can use any Pokémon and just make HP it’s highest stat.

You have 24 hours to fix these submissions, as these problems are minor. For the rest of you, submissions are closed. I’d like to thank everyone for submitting entries for this first slate, and I hope to see you guys continue submitting here in the future. Voting will start once the veto period ends.

Sorry for the wait, but the veto period is over
This is the only thing that didn’t get fixed, but due to my lack of clarity on the rules when the slate started I’ll let it slide and just note that every Pokémon in this class must have HP as its highest stat BEFORE it even gets edited. This was a slight tweak I didn’t want to scrap a unique sub for and a way to balance it so not just any Mon with a big attack can be used.

Aside from that, voting can now begin! Allow me to lay down the tentative class voting rules:

You can vote for up to 6 classes (less if you want), and each vote in any position is worth one point. You can self-vote as long as you mark it with (SV), but for each SV you need to vote for 2 of someone else’s submissions. That way, if you have 2 classes you want to SV for, you must use all of your voting slots. The three classes with the most points at the end of voting will win and be used for the Pokémon phase.

Thank you all for your patience, and good luck!
