Project RU Best Next Thing - Reloaded『Cycle 15: Diancie - Submissions』

Congratulations to Beraldinhoo for one more! Let's hop into one of RU newest discoveries to its defensive roster:

Cycle 6: Florges!

Florges has been cementing its place on the tier as a really good Blastoise switch-in that isn't named Milotic, being able to blanket check special attackers such as Shaymin, Mega Ampharos and Noivern and beat most Fighting-types with some respectable offensive presence. It also offers Wish and Heal Bell support to make strong defensive cores alongside Steel-types (offering great color synergy) and the ability to either help with hazard control or act as a win condition when running Calm Mind. What can we do with it?

SubCMind Florges

Florges @ Leftovers
Ability: Flower Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Moonblast
- Substitute
- Calm Mind

Florges has the possibility to create large enough Substitutes with the special bulk this pokemon has.
Calm Mind is here to stallbreak more effectively, especially when you are behind a Substitute to prevent the opponent from statusing Florges.
Psychic is here to get rid of annoying Poison-type pokemons that could stop our beloved Fairy during the cleaning.
Too bad that both abilities are useless, just pick one: this is a case of wasted potential.

A way to deal properly with Steel-type pokemons is needed, though.

The EVs spread is the standard one, so nothing new here.

I don't play that much RU anymore, but I created a fun lure set that beats steels and may let Florges clean up at the end of match, given the right opportunity. Z Sunny Day boosts Florges' speed by 1 stage, allowing it to outspeed threats such as Doublade, Escaviliar (can't spell this mon's name), and Mega Steelix. Hidden Power Fire is the next key here, being sun boosted and hitting all steels in the tier decently. However, it still gets decently walled by SpDef Brong and SpDef Registeel, but it does wear them down for another teammate to sweep. Modest allows Steelix to basically get 2HKO'd after rocks. Moonblast for STAB, and Synthesis for recovery thats boosted by sun.

Metronome Florges can be so much annoying with spikes support, to deal more damage in steel types, mainly. HP Ground is a good coverage move, can lure steel types like registeel, steelix and doublade, and hit poison types, like nidoqueen.

vs. Registeel:

252+ SpA Florges Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Registeel: 70-84 (19.2 - 23%) -- possible 6HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Florges Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Registeel: 70-84 (19.2 - 23%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock, 1 layer of Spikes, and Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Metronome Florges Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Registeel: 77-92 (21.1 - 25.2%) -- not a KO (twice)
+1 252+ SpA Florges Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Registeel: 106-126 (29.1 - 34.6%) -- 70.6% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock, 1 layer of Spikes, and Leftovers recovery
+1 252+ SpA Metronome Florges Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Registeel: 117-139 (32.1 - 38.1%) -- not a KO (twice)

vs. Doublade:
252+ SpA Florges Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 76 SpD Eviolite Doublade: 136-160 (42.2 - 49.6%) -- 28.1% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Florges Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 76 SpD Eviolite Doublade: 136-160 (42.2 - 49.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and 1 layer of Spikes
252+ SpA Metronome Florges Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 76 SpD Eviolite Doublade: 150-176 (46.5 - 54.6%) -- not a KO (twice)
+1 252+ SpA Florges Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 76 SpD Eviolite Doublade: 202-238 (62.7 - 73.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and 1 layer of Spikes
+1 252+ SpA Metronome Florges Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 76 SpD Eviolite Doublade: 222-262 (68.9 - 81.3%) -- 6.3% chance to 1HKO after Stealth Rock and 1 layer of Spikes (twice)

vs. Steelix-Mega:
252+ SpA Florges Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 220 SpD Steelix-Mega: 110-130 (31 - 36.7%) -- 91.6% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Florges Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 220 SpD Steelix-Mega: 110-130 (31 - 36.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and 1 layer of Spikes
252+ SpA Metronome Florges Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 220 SpD Steelix-Mega: 121-143 (34.1 - 40.3%) -- not a KO (twice)
+1 252+ SpA Florges Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 220 SpD Steelix-Mega: 164-194 (46.3 - 54.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and 1 layer of Spikes
+1 252+ SpA Metronome Florges Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 220 SpD Steelix-Mega: 180-213 (50.8 - 60.1%) -- not a KO (twice)

vs. Nidoqueen:

252+ SpA Florges Hidden Power Ground vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Nidoqueen: 148-176 (46.1 - 54.8%) -- 97.7% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Florges Hidden Power Ground vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Nidoqueen: 148-176 (46.1 - 54.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and 1 layer of Spikes

Twice or at +1 is 2hko anyway

You can also put HP Fire > Ground for Escavalier and Bronzong.

This was figured out by roman afaik, but wanted to post it here. Cool tech that allows Florges to steal Leftovers from Steel-types, allowing them to be chipped out faster without passive recovery. Be careful not to steal Choice items tho! Useful trick if you already have or don't need cleric support.

Vote on your favorite Florges set!

Merry Christmas and congratulations to nameless90 for winning this cycle! Let's go for a fresh new year with a new powerful trend:

Cycle 7: Machamp!

Once an underrated and underapreciated pick on RarelyUsed roster, Machamp shines between other Fighting-type options due to great offensive movepool and defensive utility when paired with an Assault Vest, while also working wonders as a powerful wallbreaker with a Flame Orb. Having two interesting abilities and a plethora of attacking moves, what can we do with it?

Scary Face Machamp

Machamp @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dynamic Punch
- Knock Off
- Facade
- Scary Face

One of the biggest problems with Machamp is its low Spe even when invested.
Scary Face is a good move to allow Machamp to outspeed traditional revenge killers. Still, if you are forced to switch-out anyway, your teammate will face a slow threat.

Scary Face is chosen over Bullet Punch because now Machamp can outspeed many things when they are at -2 Spe (keep in mind that fully invested Adamant Machop has 209 Spe points), so the priority is less needed.

Close Combat is the powerful STAB, meanwhile Knock Off is to get rid of Doublades Eviolite, Ice Punch helps against Noivern and Flygon and Earthquake is a coverage option.

Calcs:
252+ Atk Machamp Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Doublade: 110-130 (34.1 - 40.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

Machamp @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off

- Bullet Punch

AV alongside a full HP investment allows Machamp to tank more hits from revenge killers such as Florges and Cresselia.
Bullet Puch is much more valuable here because it allows to bypass the low Spe stat.

252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoqueen Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Machamp: 133-157 (34.6 - 40.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
0 SpA Florges Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Machamp: 174-206 (45.3 - 53.6%) -- 41.4% chance to 2HKO (this calc is important because a Moonblast + status on Machamp can't take our pokemon down in one turn unless the Fightning type is already on the verge of the death).
0 SpA Cresselia Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Machamp: 164-194 (42.7 - 50.5%) -- 1.6% chance to 2HKO
252+ SpA Adaptability Dragalge Sludge Wave/Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Machamp: guaranteed 3HKO
your set isnt allowed because it is a standard set. please take a look at the banned sets before posting. you can edit it into other set though

Why would you run Flame Orb but not Guts for an ability? Probably an oversight, but pointing it out anyways
