We got quite the submissions for Donphan this week. I think it highlights the utility this Pokémon can offer and the amount of stuff it can do is just amazing. Please, vote on your favorite Donphan set!

Reserving Choice Band

Donphan @ Choice Band
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 52 HP / 252 Atk / 204 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Knock Off
- Gunk Shot

Earthquake is Donphans high base power STAB and really reliable, meanwhile Ice Shard is a form of priority and it can OHKO Zygarde 10% and is a OHKO after Rocks on Specs Swellow.
Knock Off hits Bronzong for super effective damage and has a 50% chance to OHKO it after Rocks damage. Gnnk Shot is to lure in grass types such as Virizion, Venusaur and Tsaarena.
All in all this Donphan set acts very offensive and takes advantage of the metagame trend, which has a lot of grass pokemon on each team because Gunk Shot is able to act like a lure to these pokemon.

Some Calcs:
252+ Atk Choice Band Donphan Gunk Shot vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tsareena: 412-486 (144.5 - 170.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Donphan Gunk Shot vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Venusaur: 237-279 (78.7 - 92.6%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Choice Band Donphan Gunk Shot vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Virizion: 532-628 (164.7 - 194.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Donphan Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Bronzong: 290-342 (85.7 - 101.1%) -- 50% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Choice Band Donphan Ice Shard vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Swellow: 204-242 (78.1 - 92.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Choice Band Donphan Ice Shard vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Zygarde-10%: 360-428 (144.5 - 171.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Donphan @ Groundium Z / Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Counter
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Rapid Spin / Stealth Rocks

does normal donphan stuff as usual, but sacrifices bulk for nabbing suprise KO's on stuff that would usually scare out and beat Donphan. For example, Araquanid usually walls donphan, and can outrun it and liquidate. Due to the negative Priority however, and sturdy, Counter obliterates it. Groundium into Earthquake destroys Milotic and can OHKO Bewear after rocks. Also helps keep rocks up vs Mandibuzz trying to taunt+foulplay you with Counter just eating it.

Donphan @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Atk / 16 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Bounce
- Ice Shard
- Rapid Spin

Z-Bounce allows Donphan to lure in Grass and Bug Types that would come in for free like Araquanid, Golisopod or Tsareena, aswell as Virizion, Roserade, Ribombee and Shaymin.

This variant of Donphan utilizes The Iapapa Berry. This item is optimal because it’s able to make it last longer throughout the battle, due to Donphans only form of recovery being from Rest and Leftovers. Albeit this just does the same shit Donphan always does, the extra recovery is a huge burden taken off of Donphan’s back due to it always being susceptible to chip throughout games.

Donphan @ Rockium Z
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 160 HP / 252 Atk / 96 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
- Head Smash
- Rapid Spin/Stealth Rock

Rockium + Head Smash allows donphan to nuke mons that are otherwise safe switchins such as golisopod, mandibuzz and mantine. 96 speed lets donphan outspeed and kill 252 speed mega-aboma. Also hits cloyster if it chooses to setup on donphan who is otherwise bait.

252+ Atk Donphan Continental Crush (200 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mandibuzz: 316-372 (74.5 - 87.7%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Donphan Continental Crush (200 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0+ Def Mandibuzz: 396-466 (93.3 - 109.9%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Donphan Continental Crush (200 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mantine: 408-480 (109 - 128.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Donphan Continental Crush (200 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Abomasnow-Mega: 432-510 (134.5 - 158.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Donphan Continental Crush (200 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Cloyster: 270-318 (112 - 131.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Donphan Continental Crush (200 BP) vs. 168 HP / 0 Def Golisopod: 338-398 (101.5 - 119.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Rest Donphan

Donphan @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Rest
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
- Ice Shard

Donphan has a good bulk but a low Spe, which leaves it prone to be worn down easily.
The combination of Sturdy + Rest allows this Donphan to use Rocky Helmet effectively: this way you can deal some extra chip damage repeatedly.
Beware of Knock Off, though.
Without the Rocky Helmet, Rest is still useful to recharge Donphan's HP in order to make good use of Sturdy.

Teammates support
Hazards control in the form of Defog is recommended, whereas a Heal Bell user is appreciated to get rid of the sleep more efficiently.
Donphan @ Custap Berry
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 52 HP / 252 Atk / 204 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Head Smash
- Knock Off
- Gunk Shot

Sturdy and Custap go together like bread and butter. Needs another spinner or an anti-lead to keep Sturdy intact. Head Smash at 1HP prevents spin kills. EV's outspeed the ever so common max speed adamant Golisopod before it Aqua Jets you so you can revenge kill it after it uses First Impression on something else

I'll have to apologize you guys for my absence. RUPL went by and sucked my soul into it @_@

Regardless, congratulations for JuanchoTacorta for winning this cycle. Let's hop into the RUPL trends for our next subject:

Cycle 15: Diancie!

Getting stolen in a flash from NU some good months after dropping, Diancie picked up it's steam in RU again after tier shifts. Being the third most common Stealth Rock user in RUPL, Diancie has a bunch of tools that make it viable. Rock-type is a really valuable typing to have lately, due to the uprise on Noivern, Mandibuzz, and other countermeasures to Grass-types, such as Goodra and Houndoom. Diancie's resists to Fire-, Flying-, Dark- and Bug-type are pivotal to keep many threats in check, and it's raw power is nothing to laugh at, backed up by a strong STAB combination. Access to coverage in Earth Power to chip away Steel-types and cleric support with Heal Bell rounds up it's common arsenal. What can we do with it?

Deadline: 04/05

Diancie @ Leftovers / Normalium Z
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 248 HP / 164 SpD / 96 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Earth Power
- Moonblast
- Power Gem / Heal Bell

Diancie @ Groundium Z
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 52 HP / 252 SpA / 204 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Earth Power
- Heal Bell
- Stealth Rocks / Calm Mind

When you think of Diancie, passive is probably one of the words that comes to mind. Metagross food is also another one. This set turns the tables on these though, with Groundium slamming through these answers, either severely denting them, or just removing them. Victims include Metagross, Registeel, Nidoqueen, etc. Stealth Rocks are a must, obviously, which is another cool thing about this set: rocks are basically free. Anyways, if you don't need Stealth Rocks, then Calm Mind could be considered over Stealth Rocks. Calm Mind, coupled with Heal Bell, could let Diancie even act as a stallbreaker. The Speed is for outrunning standard Florges, while still preserving some bulk. However, you are still walled by Bronzong. Alas, alas.

252+ SpA Diancie Tectonic Rage (175 BP) vs. 76 HP / 0 SpD Shuca Berry Metagross: 191-225 (59.6 - 70.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Diancie Tectonic Rage (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Metagross: 382-450 (126.9 - 149.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Diancie Tectonic Rage (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Registeel: 190-224 (52.1 - 61.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Diancie Tectonic Rage (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Nidoqueen: 396-468 (123.3 - 145.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Diancie @ Fairium Z
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Power Gem
- Moonblast
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Calm Mind on Diancie allows it to break easily through threats. Hidden Power [fire] helps against Bronzong, Registeel and Escavalier meanwhile Power Gem and Moonblast are also CM boosted.
Farium Z is a strong STAB Z-Moonblast after a +1, Diacie also gets the +1 in SpDef which allows it to check Salazzle and Ninetales aswell as Houndoom better.

Diancie TR setter

Diancie @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Trick Room
- Moonblast
- Diamond Storm
- Earth Power

General idea
This is a variation of the standard SpD Diancie with Trick Room instead of SR for those matches against fast teams.
SR is useful and strong, but you can use it once and you are now playing with 3 moves instead of 4 whereas you can set-ut TR (even twice per match) making opposite set-up sweepers (with Agility and/or DD) less threatening for a short period of time.
P.S. Diancie is one of those TR setters not weak to Ghost and Dark.

Moonblast+Diamond Storm+Earth Power are here for coverage.

Is mandatory to get rid of Escavalier and Bronzong a.s.a.p. if you want to play Diancie with relative ease.

Diancie @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Moonblast
- Power Gem
- Earth Power

shuca lets u surprise usual diancie checks like flygon and zydog and lets u beat other grounds like donphan / rhyp / queen after some chip. u kinda miss the lefties recovery but youre not really checking as much on offensive sets so its fine.

vote for ur favourite diancie set!!

my vote goes cm + ground z, fairy z is a cool idea but ground z targets are a lot more relevant imo
