Project RU Best Next Thing - Reloaded『Cycle 15: Diancie - Submissions』

I'm not including subtoxic Machamp. Though the set can be useful, theres no explanation for it, and so it can't be up to voting.

Now vote on your favorite Machamp set!

MOTIVATE (Machamp) @ Choice Band
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Ice Punch
- Facade
- Knock Off

Pretty self-explanatory, hit hard as possible with careful prediction. Extra power means you don't have to run stuff like Heavy Slam for Florges.
Scary Face Machamp
Machamp @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dynamic Punch
- Knock Off
- Facade
- Scary Face

One of the biggest problems with Machamp is its low Spe even when invested.
Scary Face is a good move to allow Machamp to outspeed traditional revenge killers. Still, if you are forced to switch-out anyway, your teammate will face a slow threat.

Scary Face is chosen over Bullet Punch because now Machamp can outspeed many things when they are at -2 Spe (keep in mind that fully invested Adamant Machop has 209 Spe points), so the priority is less needed.
Machamp @ Darkinium Z
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Dynamic Punch
- Bulk Up
- Knock Off

Bulk Up + Darkinium, interesting set what can help vs things like Doublade with the Z Move and check things like Toxicroak, Tyrantrum, Escavalier, etc. With Bulk Up.

:)

Machamp (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Ice Punch
- Earthquake

Close Combat is the powerful STAB, meanwhile Knock Off is to get rid of Doublades Eviolite, Ice Punch helps against Noivern and Flygon and Earthquake is a coverage option.

Calcs:
252+ Atk Machamp Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Doublade: 110-130 (34.1 - 40.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Machamp Close Combat vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Fluffy Bewear: 260-308 (68 - 80.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
Machamp @ Expert Belt
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 244 Atk / 100 SpA / 164 Spe
Naughty Nature
- Close Combat
- Heavy Slam
- Stone Edge
- Fire Blast

Think your doublade walls Machamp? NOT ANYMORE.

100 SpA Expert Belt Machamp Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 76 SpD Eviolite Doublade: 161-190 (50 - 59%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

No Guard makes sure you don't miss

the other moves are coverage.

My vote goes to Sickist's Mixed Machamp.

Remember to vote by sunday!

Happy new year and congratulations to Sickist for winning this cycle! Now, lets move on with some drops:

Cycle 8: Arcanine!

Considered by some as a "Poor man's Entei", Arcanine enters the tier as a offensive Fire-type that can lure many of its countermeasures due to great coverage and offensive stats, while being a great counter to the offensive menace that is Ninetales. Having great defensive utility due to it's abilities and a plethora of moves to play with, what can we do with it?

Reserving Firium Z Arcanine

Arcanine.png
Arcanine @ Firium Z
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Extreme Speed
- Wild Charge
- Morning Sun

I decided to go with an adamant nature on Arcanine to make sure it hits very hard and has maximal power via its main stab Flare Blitz.
Firium Z allows Arcanine to use a powerful Inferno Overdrive and also preventing it from taking recoil that particular turn as well as hitting extremely hard.
Wild Charge is an excellent coverage option which catches incoming water type checks on their switchin thereby hitting them super-effectively. E-Speed is a really cool priority option that catches off weakened foes.
The 4th move here is Morning Sun, to recover up the recoil damage Arcanine takes due to its main stab in Flare Blitz and its coverage choice Wild Charge.

Calcs:
252+ Atk Arcanine Inferno Overdrive (190 BP) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Ampharos-Mega: 145-171 (45 - 53.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Arcanine Inferno Overdrive (190 BP) vs. 136 HP / 0 Def Blastoise-Mega: 129-153 (38.7 - 45.9%) -- 16% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
into
252+ Atk Arcanine Wild Charge vs. 136 HP / 0 Def Blastoise-Mega: 164-194 (49.2 - 58.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Arcanine Inferno Overdrive (190 BP) vs. 204 HP / 0 Def Dragalge: 165-195 (51.2 - 60.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Arcanine Inferno Overdrive (190 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Feraligatr: 150-177 (48.2 - 56.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Arcanine Inferno Overdrive (190 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Noivern: 182-215 (58.5 - 69.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
into
252+ Atk Arcanine Extreme Speed vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Noivern: 103-122 (33.1 - 39.2%) -- 99.9% chance to 3HKO

Arcanine @ Electrium Z

Adamant Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Wild Charge
- Extreme Speed
- WoW/filler

Wild Charge is really good as a coverage move, but it lacks in power. Luckily enough, the Z crystal allows Arcanine to land a powerful Electric attack without recoil. The Adamant nature is necessary in my opinion to OHKO the target with little prior damage.
The 4th slot is entirely up to you depending on what your team needs, but I choose Will-O-Wisp because a fast burn can ruin a check to our beloved Arcanine and is really unexpected from an offensive threat.

In my opinion, Electrium Z is a good choice over LO in order to have a massive increase (even tough only once) in the damage output of Wild Charge, our main coverage move. Keep in mind that Water-type pokemons are quite bulky so with LO Wild Charge you lose a lot of HP in the process.

252+ Atk Arcanine Gigavolt Havoc (175 BP) vs. 136 HP / 0 Def Blastoise-Mega: 318-376 (95.4 - 112.9%) -- 75% chance to OHKO
252+ Atk Arcanine Gigavolt Havoc (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Milotic: 312-368 (79.1 - 93.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Arcanine Gigavolt Havoc (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Barbaracle: 328-388 (115 - 136.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Arcanine Gigavolt Havoc (175 BP) vs. 96 HP / 0 Def Araquanid: 398-470 (132.2 - 156.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Arcanine Gigavolt Havoc (175 BP) vs. 248 HP / 20 Def Mandibuzz: 350-412 (82.7 - 97.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Basic Band to slam everything. Pretty nice with Healing Wish support to not simply die to recoil early. Flare Blitz, Wild Charge, and Extreme Speed are all staples.

nameless90's Electrium Z Arcanine

I'd like to get some discussion going as I feel that all the noms are pretty cool:
I think this set has the best balance of being underrated while also being viable. Arcanine's stats and typing make it a prime Z-Move wallbreaker, especially as strong Fire + Electric coverage hits a lot of metagame tanks (Steels, Grasses, Waters) hard. The damage calcs were fairly impressive, and I'd imagine the opportunities one would get to surprise fat Water expecting WoW or an unboosted Wild Charge are also numerous enough to justify this set's existence. Plus, the fourth slot lets Arcanine retain some utility options and makes it a very flexible set.

(CB is also great but I personally don't think it's necessarily as 'underrated'.)

I'll use this to cast my vote for JustoonSmitts, as it is able to break waters and deal with Rhyperior to an extent as well. I was gonna use this set but Justoon sniped it before I could. Why I feel this set is serperior to electrium is that you don't give Rhyperior a chance to scout and come in for free. However, in trade you give Mandibuzz a free switch. (insert Z fight plug here breaks mandibuzz and rhyp etc idk cuz other ru players are alot better than me). It really depends on what you want to hit. Both Electrium and Grassium are cool lures, I just feel that hitting Rhyp gives it the edge.

agree w Sickist. he said most of what i was gonna say so lol

also i do like fight z but i feel like it leaves it way too vulnerable to waters to be effective as other sets that specifically target them. my votes on grass z

I'm really torn this time and I don't know where my vote should go, so I don't vote this turn but I'd like to elaborate why:

Firium Z: generally speaking, I like the flexibility to have the Z crystal with a STAB + a status move of the same type in the same set, but I think that resetting all your stats isn't worthy without using Close Combat in the same 4 moves.
CB: nice set, but Arcanine's unfocused stats makes this item not that appealing considering that SR weakness. In addition to that, none calc shows the effectiveness of this set, so this choice is poorly explained by the author himself.
Grassium Z: I don't like relying on Solar Beam because you can't really makes use of it without the crystal. This means that after one use, you are forced to play with one less move most of the time. At least Wild Charge is always a great move even outside the crystal.
Fightinium Z: I don't understand the Zygarde-10% calc because it takes a ton from Fire Blitz anyway and Arcanine is outsped and OHKOed even with -1 Atk. Also, the Rhyperior calc is not that impressive because it is barely a 2HKO after Leftovers. In my opinion the calcs are not that appealing in practice.

On a side note, I'd like to underline that nobody posted a special set with Specs or a set with the big Berries to recharge Arcanine's HP.

I think Electrium Z is the best set here. I mention it in my analysis as an other option simply because it OHKOs Mega Blastoise and Milotic aftr Stealth Rock, and 2HKOes Slowbro. It's a great one-time option.

hi! im back as best next thing's cohost. i just wanna preface this post by that last round's discussion was great! i really hope this becomes a regular occurrence. discussing your votes is not compulsory, but highly encouraged, so make sure to write down your thoughts on how each set fares in the meta. now with that being said...

congrats to nameless90 for winning cycle 8!

Cycle 9: Stakataka!
The most threatening setup sweeper in RU, Stakataka has recently come under the spotlight after its suspect was announced. there is still time to squeeze in a couple of underrated sets that people can use during the suspect! sporting the highest base defense in all of ru, an amazing ability in beast boost, and support moves like stealth rock and block means it certainly has some tricks up its sleeves (or leg thingies)!
