Additionally, council has looked over the current meta, and we're proud to announce a few balance changes to assure that all mons have a place in the tier!

:heliolisk:Heliolisk-Ancient: -Extreme Speed, +Body Slam
:armaldo:Armaldo: +Swords Dance, +U-Turn
:omastar:Omastar: +10 SpA, +Flamethrower, +Future Sight

New slate will open soon. Feel free to discuss the winners in the meantime.

:gourgeist: Very flexible mon that can run a bunch of sets with its different formes.
:skeledirge: Your standard dirge with a new typing and a more spdef focused wall role.
:crobat: solid hazard setter/utility mon (hazard removal woot!)

:skeledirge: Yeah this is just SpDef Dirge. Lacks some of the weaknesses that really crippled base Dirge and has some sick new resistances for a SpDef mon, but generally just keep a Ground/Rock around and you'll be fine.
:gourgeist: Cool guy, performs well in a lot of roles. We also finally have a real wall for Tyrantrum now.
:crobat: Big. Threatens Aero a ton, fogs on Goldoco, scares out all the other Darks meaning it gets to spam Koff basically for free. Gonna be a very good mon.

also gonna give a quick explanation on the balance changes.
:heliolisk: This guy was dumb. Body Slam allows it to still have a target for Galvanize while removing its absurd revenge killing potential. Should still be a good offensive mon, but no longer will it invalidate all Electric-weak sweepers.
:armaldo: This mon had very little going for it even from the beginning, with only one STAB even being boosted by Tough Claws (the ability that supposedly made it too broken for Swords Dance), and it didn't even get the best move of that type! These movepool additions will hopefully improve the viability of both setup and choiced sets, helping it stand out from guys like Brawlutra and Crobat.
:omastar: My biggest issue with this mon besides its lack of relevant matchups was its crippling passivity. An increased Special Attack stat and the addition of both Future Sight for team support and Flamethrower to threaten Steels should hopefully give it more of a place in the meta (it also walls Gourg now too!!!)

Why didn't yall give it Headlong Rush? Or even High Horsepower if yall thought Ground CC was too much? I don't see this mon doing much even with these buffs tbh. Evn Gourgeist got HHP

Anyway, vanilla Gourgeist sucks. Small is a fast and frisky attacker, but tume will tell how reliable HHP serves it as a breaker. Super is set apart by being the only real special variant and its somewhat decent bulk + Fairy Aura making it more or less never passive. Large Gourgeist also sucks.

I preferred if the other Crobat won but I can see why something that matches up well with Aero and GoG Rat might be warranted rn. Hopefully this can be end of all Dark tyoe subs for the time being. I don't like the ability to just 1 shot other Dark types though, that already happened in another mod and made it near impossible to check that mon lol.

Skeledirge is good, I primarily voted for it to handke the likes of Meganium but I was nit aware of it's retaining of Unaware, might be good might be bad here. Either way, it felt like the mon that woukd most likely evolve into Skel without being based on a real life ancient croc and be actually good competitively. Sure we had some good other comp optins, but I couldn't vote for a Flying Fairy Skele in good faith. And sure Fire Ground felt like a more natural ancient variant of Skele but they just weren't as good or necessary of an addition to the meta as Fire Dragon is.

:armaldo:Armaldo: +Swords Dance, +U-Turn
Personal bummer to see Armaldo buffed with Swords dance because I was initially building the sub around not having setup, but it's proven to be hogshit without so whatever. Tough Claws U-turn is huge though, much less of a momentum sink when using rapid spin/koff, and it should've had this move in the first place (my bad). Also I agree with G-Luke, give this man at least high horsepower: only reason I'm against headlong is because of Brawlutra and, in the future, Great Tusk

Next up is a Fakemon slate! The goal for this slate will be to create Fakemon from the prehistoric creatures listed above, and the rules for submission are as follows:
  • You can sub 1 to 3 of the prompts chosen in this slate.
  • Make sure your sub would be balanced in the current meta. Now that the meta is large enough, please be sure to justify your mon's competitive role in the sub.
  • Custom Elements are allowed, as long as they are different from already existing abilities/moves and are relatively simple to code (no custom field effects - we're learning from last gen lol. Also, if you think it's codable but our coder disagrees, then you'd better be prepared to code it yourself if it wins.)

The Nature Spirit Pokémon
A mysterious relative of Girafarig from a time long ago. Its control over plant growth allows it to create woodlands for it to roam in wherever it goes, providing a home for other forest Pokémon.
The branch-like growths on its head burst into leaf during times of plenty. Docile as it seems, its wrath when provoked is terrible to behold, smashing through all in its way in pursuit of its aggressor.

Role:
Faunatherin is a megafaunal incarnation of nature that's unfortunately not as tough as it looks, with both defenses as its dump stats and mediocre stats otherwise... except for its physical attack, which is honestly nothing short of ridiculous and backed up by one of the most ludicrously varied movepools in all of prehistory, arguably making up for the fact that its typing has a lot of weaknesses which could otherwise be taken advantage of. Gourgeist (Ancient) for example can easily bring it down with a single Moonblast - unless Faunatherin manages to strike first with any one of the Fire and especially Poison attacks it can learn. Fire in particular also helps it deal with Ice-types that would be especially lethal to it, so Flame Charge or Flare Blitz are good coverage choices overall. Given that Dragon doesn't hit that many types super-effectively, the usual standby of Outrage can also be substituted for another type that can take care of one of its other type weaknesses (Ice for Flying and Dragon, Psychic for Poison, and Poison itself for Fairy), though keeping at least one STAB in the form of Wood Hammer (or Power Whip if you hate recoil) would still be recommended; even then, there may still be room for a setup move like Agility or Swords Dance, depending on what EV setup it's packing and which boosts will be most advantageous. While relatively straightforward in terms of battle strategy and far from unstoppable, few are the ways in which this literal force of nature can't dole out absolutely tremendous destruction, and with such a broad span of coverage types to choose from, it has a million ways to fit into any offensive team.

Flavor:
This design is a massive, draconic, stylized Sivatherium crossed with a kirin, with traits of the Sker Buffalo from Kong: Skull Island and added traits of sauropod dinosaurs. Its bulky body is jade-green with a golden underbelly, its four sturdy legs sporting cloven hooves and its medium-length, robust neck held high, while a rather long, dinosaurian tail on the other end becomes whip-like for the latter half with grass-green leaves like an ivy vine. Its large, vaguely Girafarig-like head has a white, somewhat elongated, downcurved trunk of a muzzle shaped like Musharna's snout, tusks like a water deer protruding from near the front of the mouth, and large, branching, gray ossicones like moose antlers - which are in fact leafy tree branches with bark like a birch tree, with flowery vines and lianas hanging from them, while its neck is completely covered in grass-green hanging plant life like an alpaca's neck fur, with gold and blue flowers growing on it. Darker, forest green giraffe-like spots on its back and upper limbs give the impression of both reptilian scales and patches of moss growing on an abandoned statue. A row of spikes down its spine reminiscent of Girafarig and Farigiraf's are of the same dark green color, while its hooves and eyes are gold like the belly.

The Okapi Pokémon
It lives in thick, tropical forests where it can hide most effectively. This shy Pokémon will flee into the undergrowth at the first sign of danger.
To hide from danger, its scent is exactly like that of the foliage it lives in. The same scent encourages plants to grow, rejuvenating the forest.

Name: Florokapi (Floral + Okapi)
Typing: Grass
Abilities: Natural Cure, Run Away, Sap Sipper (Hidden)
Stats: 70 HP/68 ATK/50 DEF/87 SP ATK/65 SP DEF/30 SPD = 370
Height: 4'2"
Weight: 125 lbs

Flavor:
A stylized, almost horse-like Samotherium-inspired beast, this ancient relative of Girafarig has the patterning of an okapi, except with colors of dark forest green and light green instead of dark brown and white; its hooves and its large dewy eyes meanwhile are golden in color, and its Girafarig-like snout is white. It has two small leafy gray branches on its head in place of ossicones and a cluster of simple, grass-green leaves on the end of its short, thin tail. More such leaves also stick up from the back of its neck and the top of its head like a short mane, with a single golden flower upon one side of its head.

Evolution: To Faunatherin at level 45 during the day

This sub is obviously based on Sivatherium, with the pre-evo being based on the extinct okapi relative, Samotherium. Its kirin-like design is because giraffes were identified as literally real-life kirins when they were first imported to East Asia, and since both extinct species mentioned were giraffe relatives I figured it'd be nice to mix in that connection; kirins having dragon traits also justified the Dragon typing on Faunatherin. The Grass type, overall appearance, and connection to nature is an admittedly self-indulgent nod to the VTuber Ceres Fauna from Hololive EN, who is themed after a kirin and a nature god; aside from that, though, the kirin is itself considered a benevolent guardian and a sort of "king of beasts" in many places, and the plant elements are also a continuation of how a lot of giraffe fakemon have a tree motif. I'd originally planned this sub to be first a defensive supporter (which it would've frankly been awful at given its typing), and then a special attacker, but after being reminded that Meganium (Ancient) already has the same typing and the latter role especially, I instead leaned into Fauna's reputation as a "slap god" and gave it a physical bias to set it apart.

Description: Average physical Steel/Ghost, acts mostly as a wallbreaker, having a pretty neato physical side and a good typing, granting it 3 nice immunities. Public enemy of Rampardos, Bastiodon, Omastar and all Gourgs; not too fond of Crobat, Lapras, Dirge and to some extent Heliolisk and Armaldo. Likes it's STABs, such as Behemoth Bash, Shadow Bone, Heavy Slam and it's coverage options, like Eq, Body Press, Stone Edge, Megahorn. Justified is a good option against Dark types, punishing Koff and other Dark moves.

Flavor: An almost zombie Eobasileus, with some exposing bones made out of copper and some jewels on it's skull (like jewels on a crown).

Name: Ipakokapi (from okapi, a modern relative of Sivatherium, modified to fid girafarig's naming convention), the Dousing Horn Pokemon.
Prompt: Sivatherium
Typing: Fighting/Psychic
Abilities: Armor Tail/Rock Head/Scrappy
Stats: 100/100/100/70/90/60 (BST: 520)
Movepool: Bulk Up, Iron Defense, Body Press, Zen Headbutt, Slack Off, High Horsepower, Drain Punch, Double Edge, Head Smash, Take Down, Submission*, Cranium Charge*, Wild Charge, Wood Hammer, Axe Kick, Psychic Fangs, Psycho Cut, Close Combat, Brick Break, Earthquake, Stomp, Crunch, Assurance, Facade, Giga Impact, Trailblaze, Rest, Sleep Talk, Gyro Ball, Trick Room, Headbutt, Thrash, Endure, Tera Blast, other moves given to all gen 9 pokemon
Role: Ipakokapi is a bulky physical bruiser, being capable as acting as either a flat tank or a sweeper given the chance. Its surprisingly high special defense also helps it against special attackers which most physical walls would struggle against. In addition, it is an excellent user of recoil moves due to Rock Head, able to spam out moves such as Wild Charge, Wood Hammer, Double Edge, Submission, and its signature move Cranium Charge. For a more tanky build, use Armor Tail or Scrappy instead and pack Iron Defense, Endure, Recover, and Body Press to wreck shop. Want a more offensive take? Scrappy plus Bulk Up, Close Combat, Earthquake, Recover makes for a bulky wallbreaker able to shrug off blows.
Flavor: Ipakokapi is a large, prehistoric relative of the Girafarig family, recently rediscovered in the wild expanses of the Bahuda region*. These rare, large, imposing pokemon naturally wander from floodplains to grassy woodlands to deep jungles, using their dousing-rod like ossiocones to channel their psychic energy and allow them to find water, abundant vegetation, or others of their own kind. In combat, Ipakokapi are bruisers, using their reinforced neck and forelimbs to beat down the competition (at some price to themselves), using their horns to weave psychic energy into their most potent blows.
*Bahuda is an india-based region, the same place Copperajah is originally from!

Name: Submission
Power: 90
Accuracy: 100
PP: 10
Category: Physical
Type: Fighting
Effect: User receives recoil damage equal to ¼ of the damage done.
Priority: 0
Flags: Contact, Mirror, Protect.
Notes: Buffed from its last appearance in Gen 8, now it's essentially a fighting-type Wild Charge.

Name: Cranium Charge
Power: 120
Accuracy: 100
PP: 15
Category: Physical
Type: Psychic
Effect: User receives recoil damage equal to ⅓ of the damage done. Target has a 10% chance of becoming confused.
Priority: 0
Flags: Contact, Mirror, Protect.
Notes: Ipakokapi's signature move, a psychic-type Flare Blitz that confuses instead of burns.

Name: Opakikapo, the Dousing Horn Pokemon.
Typing: Fighting/Psychic
Abilities: Inner Focus/Stamina/Scrappy
Stats: 70/90/80/65/85/65 (455)
Movepool: Astonish, Tail Whip, Growl, Tackle, Tail Slap, Stomp, Harden, Work Up, Bulk Up, Helping Hand, Double Kick, Confusion, Iron Tail, Headbutt, Zen Headbutt, Bulk Up, Slack Off, Rest, Sleep Talk, Trailblaze, Bulldoze, Thrash, Double Edge, Take Down, Cranium Charge.
Evolution: Evolves into Ipakokapi when leveled up when knowing Cranium Charge.
Flavor: Ipakokapi was once thought to be a single-stage pokemon, but its recent rediscovery has also unveiled its adorable pre-evolution. Bulkier than its cousin Girafarig, Opakikapo doesn't yet possess the armored head and horns of its adult form, instead having a tail with similar rods bursting from the end. Given its relative's evolution, it's assumed that the tail fuses with Opakikapo's head and neck as it evolves, but for now it must make due with awkwardly using its tail as a dousing instrument.

Water/Ground with Sap Sipper is pretty gross, especially with a workable statline. Please replace Sap Sipper.

Incredibly optimized stats. Please lower its stats by a large amount (current BST is 595), preferably at least hitting Defense and Speed for 20 points each.

Too fat for Slack Off. Remove Slack and it's fine, though you could also lower its bulk (preferably HP by 15 points) if you wanted to preserve the move.

Y'all will have 24 hours to correct these, and then voting will (finally) begin!

Alright, all subs have been fixed, so voting can now begin!
  • Each Pokémon will be voted for separately.
  • There is no limit on the amount of submissions you can vote for. First Place will count for 3 points, Second Place for 2, and all others will count for 1 point. If you only vote for two submissions in a category, First Place will count for 2 points and Second Place will count for 1 point. If you only vote for one submission in a category, that vote will only count for 1 point.
  • Self-Votes may not be First Place and have a limit of 6 points total.
Mon A: First Place, Second Place, Third Place
Mon B: First Place, Second Place
Mon C: First Place, Second Place, Third Place, Fourth Place, Fifth Place

Voting will last a little longer than 2 days cause I don't wanna close this at 2 in the morning lol. Get those votes in!
