Holiano

I saw that core on the ladder and was surprised charizard could eat some of hariyama's moves (have to be careful roosting on it though).

It was a close one this time, but overall Holiano is the winner of this round! These cores all demonstrated the great defensive synergy of these types, while Dr Ciel's provided an interesting offensive core that supports the underrated Klinklang. This week's theme will be
; Ice and Fighting is one of the strongest offensive combinations around, and Water-types provide useful Fire- and Steel- resists for Ice-types while also appreciating a solid Freeze Dry resist and providing more super-effective coverage in general.

Submissions will continue until Saturday 28th May at 12:00 GMT. Here's your selection of mons.
Barbaracle, Carracosta, Floatzel, Frogadier, Gastrodon, Gorebyss, Kabutops, Lanturn, Lapras, Ludicolo, Mantine, Omastar, Pelipper, Poliwrath, Prinplup, Samurott

Samurott @ Splash Plate | Torrent
80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe | Adamant
Waterfall / Megahorn / Swords Dance / Aqua Jet

Abomasnow @ Life Orb | Snow Warning
4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe | Hasty
Blizzard / Giga Drain / Earthquake / Ice Shard

Combuksen @ Eviolite | Speed Boost
252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe | Timid
Fire Blast / Focus Blast / Protect / Baton Pass

This core has crazy good synergy. Combusken struggles the most with Psychic- and Water-type Pokemon. Samurott easily breaks down fat Psychic-types such as Musharna and Mesprit, and Abomasnow easily switches into and breaks almost every Water-type in the tier. In return, Combusken can pass along its Speed boosts to its partners when there's no clear way for it to clean for the team.

This core works really well with Toxic Spikes, a la BW2 UU's common Abomasnow/Sharpedo/Toxic Spikes core, where hail and poison damage quickly rack up while Combusken spams Protect.

Somebody on PS also mentioned that Articuno does well against this core, so make sure you have something for that.

Ability: Weak Armor
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Banana (Primeape) @ Choice Scarf

This core works with the mons breaking eachothers checks keeping momentum using bp and u-turn trying to always bring safely Vanilluxe. The ice cone weakens Floatzel's checks like lanturn/mantine and even fat things like Hariyama with Explosion, HP Ground can be used for Aggron or even Signal Beam for Malamar and finaly Scarf Primeape, scarf ape is really not so strong so you need Float and Vani to weaken the opponent's team before it can sweeps even if it can't do much early/midgame it does a good joob revenging stuff faster than Float asElectrode/Swellow (mainly if Vani isn't carring Ice Shard) or another scarf with lower speed as Rotom.

-I think Floatzel+Articuno is pretty cool core since floatzel is a nice late game cleaner that benefits from articuno wallbreaking and can safely bring it in with baton pass, articuno beats most of things floatzel dislikes with its great stab moves, its also a decent partner defensively since it switches in some of the special grass moves and its an ice check with reliable recovery. Hitmonchan is only a filler

Jynx and Hariyama work well together as they deal with eachothers checks. Hariyama provides support with Thick Fat and deals with stuff like Klinklang, Magmortar and Piloswine. On the other hand Jynx deals with Yamas Flying weakness and takes on Gougeist, Vileplume and Weezing. I needed something for Malamar and Scyther so i added Scarf Barbaracle which is a really cool set and is rising in popularity lately. Jynx also deals with bulky Grass types and Poliwrath which benefits Barbaracle. Bulkier mons like Musharna and Defensive Mesprit can be a problem to this core:

252 Atk Tough Claws Barbaracle X-Scissor vs. 240 HP / 252+ Def Musharna: 158-186 (36.4 - 42.9%) -- 95.4% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Tough Claws Barbaracle X-Scissor vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Mesprit: 138-164 (37.9 - 45%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Barbaracle @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Razor Shell
- X-Scissor
- Switcheroo

Jynx @ Focus Sash
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Lovely Kiss
- Nasty Plot
- Ice Beam
- Psychic / Psyshock

Hariyama @ Assault Vest
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Bullet Punch
- Earthquake / Fake Out

shoutout to ~Eternally for the Barbaracle suggestion

I'll close this early as it's pretty obvious that ryan is the winner of this week! The lesson here is that combining an offensive type core like Water/Ice/Fighting with a defensive type core like Water/Grass/Fire gives you a great balanced core that can be useful in a number of different scenarios. The theme for this week is
spam! It can be hard for some teams to take repeated Volt Switches, especially when most Electric-types typically run coverage to hit Ground-types super effectively, and even if they have something that can tank the move, the opponent can bring in a response immediately after the move lands. Remember to submit three-Pokémon-cores; the last Pokémon can be any type you want to support your Electric-types. The deadline for this week is Saturday June 4th at 18:00 GMT (I'm working all weekend :s).

Electivire, Lanturn, Manectric, Raichu, Rotom, Rotom-Fan, Rotom-Frost

Manectric @ Life Orb / Expert Belt
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Signal Beam
- Volt Switch
- Overheat
- Hidden Power [Grass]

Lanturn @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 40 SpA / 100 SpD / 120 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Heal Bell
- Volt Switch
- Scald
- Toxic

Pelipper @ Leftovers
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Scald
- U-turn
- Roost
- Defog

Old core so sets might be old, but I updated the Lanturn spread for Aggron. This core is super fun, Lanturn and Manectric work really well with Pelipper checking all the usual electric types that threaten it. Overall this core just has a lot of fun with voltturn madness and they cover each others weaknesses extremely well, more solid than it looks.

Electivire @ Expert Belt
Ability: Motor Drive
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Hidden Power Grass
- Volt Switch
- Earthquake
- Flamethrower

Stunfisk @ Leftovers
Ability: Static
EVs: 164 HP / 252 Def / 92 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Discharge
- Earth Power

Tauros (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Rock Climb
- Zen Headbutt
- Fire Blast
- Iron Tail

Something to note straight away: these sets are not 100% what you would have to use. Depending on the team and what not, you could carry Vital Spirit on E-vire, Scald on Stunfisk, and Earthquake on Tauros etc.

Electivire is a cool and underrated mon. Nice speed tier, very good movepool and rather nice stats give balanced teams tough times to deal with it. It can be a physical wallbreaker or a momentum gaining Volt Switcher, the set used for this. With Motor Drive, it can switch in on the likes of Lanturn and Manectric in 50/50 situations, and then give humongous pressure with its versatility and newly gained speed. With Volt Switch, it can also pivot out into the cancerous Stunfisk to deal with things that E-vire and Tauros cant break through, or just to Tauros to get a free, harsh hit on something.

Now when it comes to Stunfisk, I am actually at a loss here. An electric type was a must, and there wasn't many options, so I took it because it can give some support with Static+Discharge, use toxic to give the offensive mons an easier time, and then switch in on things that the offensive mons can't ohko and don't want to take a risk with. With 164 HP it is sitting at a lefties number, gave it max defense and rest in spdef for more all around bulk. But for some reason, I feel like there could be better options for it's place. Maybe it has something to do with the ground weakness. Air Balloon Stunfisk y/y.

Tauros.

Electivire @ Life Orb
Ability: Motor Drive
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
IVs: 30 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Earthquake

Rotom @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Trick

Garbodor @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Aftermath
EVs: 248 HP / 204 Def / 56 Spe
Impish Nature
- Toxic Spikes
- Spikes
- Gunk Shot
- Focus Blast

-Electivire is one of my favourite mons in NU so had to post it. This core consists of wallbreaker(E-vire),spinblocker/speed control(Rotom) and Garbodor, which is best spiker in tier. One thing i like about e-vire over magmortar is speed and access to volt switch, and core of rotom+e-vire forces opponent to repeadetly take damage from volt switches while spikes increases the damage. Core requires another sturdy ground resist and psychic check, spinner is also recommended.
