Combusken @ Eviolite
Trait: Speed Boost
252 Atk / 252 Def / 4 HP
Naughty Nature
-Vacuum Wave
-Sky Uppercut
-Rest
-Focus Blast

Triple Fighting coverage FTW.

Combusken can come in on anything with Eviolite, it doesn't get OHKOd by Tauros' Zen Headbutt and can OHKO everything back with Sky Uppercut.

If Tauros is in, Combusken comes in on anything. If Tauros used Zen Headbutt, then you survive the hit, outspeed thanks to Speed Boost and OHKO back Focus Blast.

If Tauros used sub, just use Vacuum Wave to break the sub followed by Sky Uppercut which is a guaranteed KO after a sub.

If he spams subs till 1 HP and Endeavours, no problem, you Vacuum Wave and he dies. If he switches to Liepard, he has to take a Vacuum Wave to a face, and is thus 2HKO’d by Vacuum Wave. After Tauros dies and Liepard comes in, Rest up to avoid being KO’d, and even if Liepard uses Encore on the turn you wake up, simply use Vacuum Wave, outspeeding it thanks to the +1 priority, and you can now safely kill Liepard.

If Liepard is in, Combusken again comes in on anything. If U-Turn to Tauros, simply do the above. If anything else, just Sky Uppercut once and you have a dead Liepard. Focus Blast Tauros when he comes in. Boom.

Calcs:

0 SpA Combusken Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Tauros: 302-356 (103.78 - 122.33%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Combusken Sky Uppercut vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tauros: 236-282 (81.09 - 96.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Life Orb Sheer Force Tauros Zen Headbutt vs. 4 HP / 252 Def Eviolite Combusken: 177-211 (67.55 - 80.53%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

0 SpA Combusken Vacuum Wave vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Liepard: 132-156 (49.07 - 57.99%) -- 45.31% chance to 2HKO

tauros outspeeds combusken even at +1, so it doesnt work. plus, speed boost doesn't activate when you switch it in. you're just gonna end up being 2hkoed by zen headbutt on the switch in.

Not to mention that Vacuum Wave is illegal with Speed Boost due to it being a 4th Gen only Tutor move. (Annoyer and I were sad when we learned about this ;_;) PS probably doesn't show the illegalities as its been known to allow illegal sets from time to time. I would recommend attempting these challenges using PO (PO1 has the best teambuilder anyways imo) as it does warn you when you have an illegal set on the teambuilder itself and even lets you know how each Pokemon learns the move so you get an idea why it's illegal.

Gurdurr @ Eviolite
Trait: Iron Fist
252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
-Drain Punch
-Mach Punch
-
-

The best thing that the opponents team can go for is zen headbutt from tauros, which is only a 3HKO.
252Atk Life Orb Sheer Force Tauros (Neutral) Zen Headbutt vs 252HP/252Def Eviolite Gurdurr (+Def): 35% - 42% (132 - 158 HP). Guaranteed 3HKO.
Gurdurr can just heal up some lost HP with Drain Punch.

4Atk Iron Fist Gurdurr (Neutral) Drain Punch vs 4HP/0Def Tauros (Neutral): 72% - 86% (212 - 252 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.
If Tauros subs down a lot, then Mach Punch will do enough to knock it out when its at 40%~~, but I prefer just going for drain punches and Mach punch only when the sub is broken and when Tauros is at 25%.

4Atk Iron Fist Gurdurr (Neutral) Mach Punch vs 4HP/0Def Tauros (Neutral): 39% - 47% (116 - 138 HP). Guaranteed 3HKO.
If Liepard is in, Gurdurr can just go for drain punches, and proceed to knock it out.

4Atk Iron Fist Gurdurr (Neutral) Drain Punch vs 4HP/0Def Liepard (Neutral): 131% - 154% (354 - 416 HP). Guaranteed OHKO.
252Atk Dread Plate Liepard (Neutral) Night Slash vs 252HP/252Def Eviolite Gurdurr (+Def): 7% - 8% (28 - 33 HP). Guaranteed 14HKO.

Alomomola @ Rocky Helmet
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Protect
- Wish
- Toxic

Tangela @ Eviolite
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Def / 248 HP / 4SAtk
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off
- Leech Seed
- Synthesis

If Tauros is in, Alomomola switches in. Takes very little from Rock Climb:

252 Atk Life Orb Sheer Force Tauros Rock Climb vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola: 173-204 (32.39 - 38.2%) -- 1.03% chance to 3HKO
And can Wish + Protect, while Tauros is worn down with Rocky Helmet and Substitute (which'll equal a good chunk of HP) to start off with, etc. Alomomola on the other hand can keep recovering. If Liepard switches in to try and use Encore on Protect/Wish, Alomomola switches to Tangela.

252+ Atk Dread Plate Liepard Night Slash vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Tangela: 51-61 (15.31 - 18.31%) -- possible 6HKO
Alomomola then switches to Tangela. If Tauros is in Endeavor range to start off with, or at any point, then it'll die to Alomomola due to Rocky Helmet, and Alomomola can recover the damage by switching to Tangela, while Tangela will take very little from Liepard's attacks.

252+ Atk Liepard U-turn vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Tangela: 56-68 (16.81 - 20.42%) -- possible 5HKO

252+ Atk Dread Plate Liepard Night Slash vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Tangela: 51-61 (15.31 - 18.31%) -- possible 6HKO
Tangela on the other hand can just recover with Giga Drain and switch to Alomomola as it pleases to wear Liepard down, and help it recover.

252+ Atk Dread Plate Liepard Night Slash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola: 97-115 (18.16 - 21.53%) -- possible 7HKO

252+ Atk Liepard U-turn vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola: 54-64 (10.11 - 11.98%) -- 9HKO at best
If Liepard uses U-Turn and switches to Tauros, it'll just keep using Giga Drain and take some from Liepard.

0 SpA Tangela Giga Drain vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Liepard: 141-166 (52.22 - 61.48%) -- 97.66% chance to 2HKO
As for Tauros on Tangela to help Alomomola recover HP, then you've got this:

252 Atk Life Orb Sheer Force Tauros Rock Climb vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Tangela: 91-109 (27.32 - 32.73%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
If Liepard is in, Alomomola switches in and uses Scald - if it burns great, if not,

0 SpA Alomomola Scald vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Liepard: 75-88 (27.77 - 32.59%) -- possible 4HKO

0 SpA Alomomola Scald vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Tauros: 58-69 (19.86 - 23.63%) -- possible 5HKO
Which'll wear Tauros and Liepard down, depending on whether it uses U-turn or not. If not, just switch between the two to recover HP to avoid Encore. Then from there just repeat the above steps/information.

Also, Tangela can use Knock Off on Tauros to remove Life Orb and lower damage output and Alomomola can use Toxic if it senses a switch. However Giga Drain and Scald are preferable in most cases.

On another note I calc'd without the extra 4 EVs in sPA but it doesn't really make a difference soooo.

Neal and Jack and me, absent lovers...
So, the forum is pretty busy with the new arrivals and this thread is slowly dying out. I will post the final round around 9pm EST or tomorrow morning if something goes wrong. Last chance to find a counter to this (new NU arrivals cannot be used in round 4 but will be legal in round 5).

Sweet Jesus

Neal and Jack and me, absent lovers...
Final round already? I'm gonna miss this thread :(
I'm getting more and more busy with school and don't have much time to host this at the moment. If someone else feels like reviving this thread they can ask me suggestions and I might even want to cohost. (To anyone who wants to revive this, please don't make a V4 of this thread if you are not experienced enough to balance the difficulty of your cores or prove counters wrong yourself. If you think you are experienced enough, ask a mod before reviving this and you are free to steal my op :toast:).

So, here's the final round (trick specs jynx cause countering sleep is boring), I'll compile round 4 points on friday.

Golem
Item: Lum Berry
Ability: Sturdy
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 236 HP/252 Atk/ 44 Spe
Moveset:
-Stealth Rock
-Earthquake
-Rock Blast
-Sucker Punch

Utility Golem would be an excellent counter for both of these pokemon. Golem can OHKO Jynx with all of his moves, one of which is Sucker Punch which makes Jynx's faster speed not a problem. Utility Golem also usually comes with Lum Berry, so he can soak up a Lovely Kiss and KO her in retaliation. Her using trick can ruin the utility and allow your opponent to set up on you, though.

Earthquake: 130.99 - 154.24%
Rock Blast: 199.26 - 234.68%
Sucker Punch: 139.48 - 164.57%: 0 - 0%
252+ Atk Golem Rock Blast (3 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Jynx: 540-636 (199.26 - 234.68%)
Golem can also take all of Skuntank's moves and hit it back with an Earthquake which OHKO it. The most Jolly Skuntank can do is 5HKO it with Sucker Punch.

252+ Atk Golem Earthquake vs. 10 HP / 0 Def Skuntank: 440-522 (126.07 - 149.57%)
252 Atk Skuntank Sucker Punch vs. 212 HP / 0 Def Golem: 84-99 (23.72 - 27.96%) -- possible 5HKO

Sneasel @ Focus Sash
Trait: Pickpocket
EVs: 208 Spd / 252 Atk / 48 HP
Adamant Nature
- Pursuit
- Assist
- Ice Punch
- Punishment

Metang @ Eviolite
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Bullet Punch

Sneasel comes in on any move of Jynx's attacks while surviving, and proceeds to trap Jynx for a near guaranteed OHKO if she stays in. The EV spread gives Sneasel maximum attack power, enough speed to outrun Jynx (and thus Skuntank), and the rest is thrown into Sp.Def just because.
252Atk Sneasel (+Atk) Pursuit vs 0HP/0Def Jynx (Neutral): 95% - 112% (258 - 306 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO. 72% chance to OHKO.
252SpAtk Choice Specs Jynx (Neutral) Ice Beam vs 48HP/0SpDef Sneasel (Neutral): 51% - 60% (135 - 159 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.
Even if Jynx goes for the less risky Ice Beam as opposed to Focus Miss, Sneasel is still sitting pretty (while being immune to freezing) and can Pursuit for the likely KO. If Jynx survives, Metang can pick off the scraps.

252Atk Skuntank (+Atk) Crunch vs 252HP/4Def Eviolite Metang (Neutral): 23% - 28% (76 - 91 HP). Guaranteed 5HKO.
252Atk Metang (+Atk) Earthquake vs 20HP/0Def Skuntank (Neutral): 65% - 77% (230 - 272 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.
252Atk Metang (+Atk) Bullet Punch vs 20HP/0Def Skuntank (Neutral): 19% - 23% (69 - 82 HP). Guaranteed 6HKO.
Metang beats Skuntank one-on-one, and Metang's immunity to Def drops means Skunk's Crunch can't save it that way. Even 2 crits from Skuntank may not KO Metang.

If Skunk is out first, Metang easily tanks Skunk's hits and EQs both pokemon for good damage, meaning one is definitely going down.
252Atk Metang (+Atk) Earthquake vs 0HP/0Def Dry Skin Jynx (Neutral): 68% - 80% (185 - 218 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.
252SpAtk Choice Specs Jynx (Neutral) Focus Blast vs 252HP/0SpDef Eviolite Metang (Neutral): 44% - 52% (145 - 171 HP). Guaranteed 3HKO. 9% chance to 2HKO.
252Atk Metang (+Atk) Bullet Punch vs 0HP/0Def Jynx (Neutral): 81% - 97% (222 - 264 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.
The latter scenario is for when a double switch is pulled, resulting in Jynx facing Metang unscathed. Metang can swiftly KO Jynx with EQ + Bullet Punch, and weakens Skunk for Sneasel to clean up.

252Atk Sneasel (+Atk) Earthquake vs 20HP/0Def Skuntank (Neutral): 76% - 89% (268 - 316 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.
252Atk Sneasel (+Atk) Ice Punch vs 20HP/0Def Skuntank (Neutral): 42% - 50% (151 - 178 HP). Guaranteed 3HKO. 1% chance to 2HKO.
252Atk Skuntank (+Atk) Poison Jab vs 48HP/0Def Sneasel (Neutral): 70% - 83% (186 - 219 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.
252Atk Skuntank (+Atk) Sucker Punch vs 48HP/0Def Sneasel (Neutral): 35% - 41% (93 - 109 HP). Guaranteed 3HKO.
The former scenario is for when Sneasel does KO Jynx and is face to face with Skunk with 1%. While I could Ice Shard to avoid Sucker Punch and get chip damage off, isn't there a better way to inflict more damage? Enter Assist, which is the primary reason I did not fill Metang's moveslots to the brim. Sneasel has a 50% chance of choosing a move weaker than its Ice Shard, or select an Earthquake more powerful than Metang's, leaving the skunk totally vulnerable to the Iron Claw pokemon. Ice Punch is a more reliable option where I'll use to take down Skunk after Metang sacrifices itself to KO Jynx and soften up Skunk, because I don't want my full health Sneasel to dick around with Assist and take a Poison Jab to the face to the point where Aftermath damage might or a Sucker Punch will KO me (but the Skunk user has to predict for the Assist as well). Punishment is merely there to guarantee the OHKO on Jynx should Skunk get KOed before her.

Note that the success of Assist is not mandatory of this core's success, merely further strengthening its position (Metang still handles Skunk fine).

Golem
Item: Lum Berry
Ability: Sturdy
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 236 HP/252 Atk/ 44 Spe
Moveset:

This is not the best counter to the core.
Golem can't switch in to jynx's ice beam cause it will bring it to sturdy, which can be finished by skuntanks sucker punch after.

136 SpA Charizard Flamethrower vs. 20 HP / 0 SpD Skuntank: 186-220 (52.84 - 62.5%) -- 99.61% chance to 2HKO
You survive Ice Beam and OHKO Jynx with Flamethrower. You'll be left with at least twenty six percent of your health after two turns of Leftovers (switching in and killing Jynx) which means you can burn Skuntank and survive any attack. You'll be able to Roost up and finish off Skuntank with two Flamethrowers. You have a seventy percent chance to avoid the Poison from Poison Jab and Sweet Jesus said that was fine.
136 SpA Choice Specs Charizard Fire Blast vs. 20 HP / 0 SpD Skuntank: 352-415 (100 - 117.89%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Switching into Jynx

You survive Ice Beam and OHKO Jynx with Flamethrower. You'll be left with at least twenty six percent of your health after two turns of Leftovers (switching in and killing Jynx) which means you can burn Skuntank and survive any attack. Wow, Charizard again? Who knew that this one can boast some bulk.

On the other hand, you have to land the Will-o-Wisp and not get poisoned to beat Skuntank after Jynx. That's a 52.5% chance of success, which is cutting it pretty thin there, FLCL (Sing and Grasswhistle have better odds!).

Edit: That said, that was pretty much the most likely worst case scenario to occur; seems like Fire Blasting during that range while predicting for anything but Sucker Punch nets you good odds too. I concede this round as well to you :P.

If Skuntank is in, switch in Gigalith, tank a hit thanks to its awesome defenses, and use Autotomize, allowing you to now outspeed both Jynx and Skuntank and KO with Rock Blast and Earthquake, respectively. ChestoRest is in case the opponent double switches to Jynx, leaving you to Autotomize, get brought down to Sturdy, followed by KOing Jynx with Rock Blast and ChestoResting to avoid Sucker Punch from Skuntank.

252+ Atk Skuntank Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Gigalith: 93-109 (29.9 - 35.04%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
