Counter that RU Pokemon!!

Banned deucer.
Drapion @ Leftovers
Trait: Sniper
EVs: 252 HP / 120 SpD / 136 Spe
Jolly Nature (+Spe, -SpA)
-Swords Dance
-Night Slash
-Taunt
-Earthquake

Big D cockblocks itself completely, absorbs T Spikes, taunts the taunt first and SDs up for the sweep. Night slash for that ambitious sniper abuse, earthquake for coverage and stuff. given that the other drapion has "whatever" evs it cant be too hard to kill

Quaqsire @ Leftovers
Trait: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spe)
-Scald
-Earthquake
-Recover
-Yawn

Unaware Quagsire doesn't care how many SDs Drapion gets, it doesn't take much damage from either attack and can threaten back with STAB super-effective Earthquake or attempt to burn Drapion with Scald. Recover is there to heal off any damage and allow Quaggy to stay alive longer. Yawn can be used to force switches and/or put something to sleep.

obvious counter feels obvious

@Eviolite
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 60 Def / 196 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
-Giga Drain
-Sludge Bomb
-Rest
-Spikes

Earthquake is a 3HKO even with SR damage Scald does laughable damage and Giga Drain ultra wrecks Quagsire. Sludge Bomb is to keep from being completely walled by Bouffalant (or any other Sap Sippers) and with her decent ability to take hits, thanks to Eviolite, Rest+switching is a pretty decent way to get HP back. If Quag decides to stay in you can just start to put up some spikes. Spikes are (in my experience) easier to keep up than Toxic Spikes with the growing number of decent poison types down here.

EDIT: Metang @ eviolite
clear body
lonely
252 atk/4 sp.atk/252 sp.def
Zen Headbutt
Meteor Mash
Sanstorm
Hp: water

Resists main STAB, immune to Sludge Bomb, so he can easily switch in, the held item may stall a little, but not for long, Zen Headbutt and Meteor Mash are STABs. Hp: water helps defend agains his main counters. Sandstorm allows weather shifts making cerain pokes think twice when switching.

Try to be original when countering this pokemon

@ Eviolite
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 168 HP / 252 SpA / 88 Spe
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- HP Fire
- Magnet Rise

Standard Steel Trapping Magneton, thanks to Magnetons steel typing, it can set-up a substitute with ease, taking only around 10% from any of Metangs attacks including the great and powerful Hidden Power Water, Thunderbolt and HP Fire deal roughly the same damage (TBolt deals 0.44% more lol). Magneton will definitely always come out on top often with a sub still intact, ready to hit another Pokemon with a move. edit: lol sandstorm, Magnetons steel typing makes it immune to that too!

@ Life Orb
Ability: Anticipation
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature (+Spe, -SpA)
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge

Happy go lucky Whiscash can come in safely on any of Magneton's attacks and begin to set up. Waterfall hits Magneton neutrally if it has used Magnet Rise. Whiscash even has Anticipation to warn it of any dodgey Hidden Powers that Magneton may be carrying. Certainly not something Magneton wants to meet in a dark alley at night.

SkullCandy

She Bangs The Drums

Sceptile @ Leftovers
Ability: Overgrow
EV's: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
-Giga Drain
-Substitute
-Leech Seed
-Hidden Power [Fire]

This set comes in easily on Whiscash, resisting its STABs and taking a maximum of 48.2% - 56.9% from an unboosted Stone Edge (+1 does 71.9% - 84.6% not an OHKO with rocks and Giga Drain can recover a lot of health anyway because of Whiscash's high HP). However, if Whiscash does boost, it dies and Sceptile recovers off any earlier damage because even with Jolly +1 Sceptile outspeeds and if it attacks it still dies as Sceptile can just recover off the damage that Stone Edge does.

This set is second only to the Life Orb set (aren't I a hipster never going for the mainstream) and takes out a lot of pokemon as well as never dying because of Giga Drain, Leech Seed and Leftovers. (Giga Drain does 145.9% - 172.4% btw)

From my own experiences using SubSeed Sceptile with HP [Fire] I can say for sure that this is the #1 pain in the ass for our lovable reptile.

@ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpA
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spe)
- Double-Edge
- Grass Knot
- Wish
- Protect

Leech Seed can't touch Clefable because of Magic Guard and Sceptile's attacks aren't breaking through anytime soon (Giga Drain is a 3-4HKO). Clefable's Double-Edge crushes Sceptile while it also has the ability to support the team with Wish and scout with Protect - very annoying.

Aggron@Choice Band
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 52 HP / 252 Atk / 204 Spe
Adamant Nature
-Head Smash
-Iron Head
-Earthquake
-Ice Punch

Aggron outspeeds this slow clefable to destroy it with head smash. Don't think something will be switching in to receive the wish either.

Quagsire @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

Earthquake OHKOs and Scald can Burn. Nothing Aggron can do 2HKOs.

-Volt Switch

-Hidden Power Grass
-Switcheroo

Simples. Outpaces Clamperl even after a Shell Smash and OHKO's with Volt Switch. If they switch, you gain momentum.

Gabite @ Choice Band
Trait: Sand Veil
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe

-Outrage
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-Dragon Claw

Gabite can sponge a hit from Manectric with ease, sans Hidden Power [Ice], which this particular one doesn't carry, and retaliate with a stab Choice Band Earthquake.

Cofagrigus @ Leftovers
Trait: Mummy
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SpD

-Will-O_Wisp
-Shadow Ball
-Haze
-Rest

Can easily take a Choice Banded Outrage and retaliate with Will-O-Wisp, crippling Gabite for the rest of the match.

I dont think ANY of you guys know what a counter is. A counter must be able to switch in and then kill before getting killed (in essence, this is the simplified definition of a counter.) However, the last several posts were plainly bad.

First of all:

the choice scarf zweilous vs lanturn

Ice Beams it.
Detailed Result: 252 Atk Hustle Zweilous Outrage vs 40 HP/252 Def Lanturn: 60.1% - 71.07%
2 hits to KO

If Zweilous uses outrage, and lanturn comes in on the switch, it is killed. It cant even outspeed because zweilous is a scarfed jolly variant. Lanturn doesnt even get to attack. This is not even a CHECK.

Another problem:

How is THIS,

A COUNTER to THIS?

Gabite @ Choice Band
Trait: Sand Veil
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe

-Outrage
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-Dragon Claw

Gabite can sponge a hit from Manectric with ease, sans Hidden Power [Ice], which this particular one doesn't carry, and retaliate with a stab Choice Band Earthquake.
Detailed Result: 252 Atk Choice Band Gabite Outrage vs 0 HP/0 Def Zweilous: 214.74% - 253.68%
100% chance to OHKO

This is just horrible. Zweilous cant switch into any of Gabite's attack.

Also, you cannot just assume the poke is going to use a certain move. For example:

yes, but clamperl isnt gonna surf on quagsire - itll hp grass or set up shell smash

You cannot just ASSUME clamperl is going to spam hp grass, because a good player would predict a switch. surf also does alot of damage against quaggy so there are no obvious reasons to hp grass. And another thing, why would you set up on an UNAWARE poke?

Having said that, a counter to lanturn:

Amoonguss (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Effect Spore
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Clear Smog
- Synthesis

walls everything lanturn has, and can put it to sleep or attack with giga drain.

Detailed Result: 0 SpAtk Lanturn Ice Beam vs 252 HP/252 SpDef Amoonguss (+SpDef) : 20.83% - 25%
4-5 hits to KO

Make sure the incoming poke can COUNTER amoonguss

TROLL COUNTER!

Omastar
@ Lum Berry
Timid Swift Swim

Shell Smash
Ice Beam
Surf
Hidden Power [Grass]

obviously the opponent will use synthesis to recover any entry hazard damage because they know they will force Lanturn out. Then you shell smash as they try to put you to sleep, but Lum Berry saves you! Then you ice beam for a solid 86% max and hope to God for a freeze hax, which you will get, so you can safely 2HKO!

Magmortar
@Life Orb
Timid Vital Spirit
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Fire Blast
Thunderbolt
Focus Blast
Hidden Power [Ice]

there, 75% chance for the OHKO on 100% Amoonguss w/ Fire Blast, while Clear smog does about 25% iirc. counter.

@Bluemon, I agree, several of the last counters are pretty appalling, but (as a probably safe assumption) the above posters had very low post counts and maybe are not aware of the definition of counter/check. Either way this thread has had pretty low activity as of lately and tbh, the laugh I got from reading some of those "counters" made them more interesting than a lot of the other content here. (:

I guess I'm just trying to say
I dont think ANY of you guys know what a counter is.
is a bit of an exaggeration because there really are some good (and underrated) counters listed on some previous pages

Anyway, if it's worth saying, it's worth over saying...

Counter: Must be able to switch in on ANY move, and reliably (bar hax) force a switch or KO the opposing pokemon before it can KO or otherwise incapacitate your pokemon.

there are some different ways to view a "counter" when referring to hazard or other set up sets, but generally anything with taunt or (to a lesser extent) a threatening boosting move counters a spiker for example.

Final note, don't list phazing sets
very few RU pokemon can switch in on these moves and they aren't going to add any constructive additions to the thread

I love how nothing in RU actually fully counters Magmortar. so from the miserable depths of nu here comes the one and only magmortar counter: shitteon!!

Flareon @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Wish
- Protect
- Flamethrower
- Toxic

look at all that team support wrapped up in an adorable package. anyways Magmortar cant touch flazza even after SR, with wish and protect allowing infinite switchins pretty much. toxic stall is a go go as well, synergising nicely with protect. Flametrower so you dont accidentally burn stuff which can be a bit of a pain (Quagsire).

ha i just found this what the fuck internet

edit: never noticed how solid of a counter Gabite is to Manectric. good shout considering how everyone and their mums are whoring manectric atm

Magmortar doesn't have that many checks in NU either besides Flareon. Reason why I've been seeing mixmags a lot lately... it would also be nice if Maggie can stay in NU, we've never done anything to you guys yet you've already stole like 12 of our mons...

Sigilph@Life Orb
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
-Calm Mind
-Roost
-Air Slash
-Psyshock

But Flareon has lots of SDef, how can that special attacker be a counter? Psh, Special Defense? Psyshock don't care, it does what it wants; it does 64.97% - 76.65% damage is what it does. Flareon's Flamethrower? A 3hKO against this boss (41.26% - 49.3%). But wait! There's More? This bird has almost twice as much speed as that dumb cat-thing (Flareon, ain't no dog, dogs have class or character and aren't all Wish-y washy [get it? wish]) compare this ballin' 322 to that measly 166. No Contest. AND WE SAVED THE BEST PART FOR LAST! How can there be a better part? O gosh-golly I'm excited! Lucky Burn? Switch into Toxic? We got you covered? We have that glorious Magic Guard. Yessir, Magic Guard knows where it's at, and where it's at is here. Flareon thinks he can stay in? Set up a Calm mind. Flareon get's uppity? Smack him with a Psyshock. Flareons turns tail like a scaredy-cat? Cut a bitch with that Air Slash. Got some prior Damage? Roost like it's going out of style. Abuse that base 97 speed (what a stupid number) and be the best you can be: with SIGILYPH!

All for the low, low price of $19.95.

Solrock @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spe)
- Trick Room
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Explosion

This boss isn't even 3HKO'd by Air Slash after Stealth Rock, and even if Sigilyph Calm Minds on the switch, it can't 2HKO. Solrock actually has a very respectable Attack stat of 95, which allows it to always OHKO Sigilyph, and it avoids being stalled out by Roost by setting up Trick Room. Alternatively, it can sacrifice itself to take out Sigilyph by using Explosion, which is also guaranteed to OHKO (assuming the standard spread of 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Sigilyph, as you didn't specifiy the EV spread).

Edit: Ok, thanks for clarifying.

Golurk @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Fist
Ev's: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -Spe)
- Shadow Punch
- Focus Punch
- Earthquake
- Substitute

This Golurk can shrug off any attacks Solrock has to offer, taking 30,37% - 35,86% damage from EQ, which is a 4HKO aftter leftovers and takes 22,77% - 26,7% from Stone Edge while he can 2HKO back with Shadow Punch (83,72% - 98,55%). Golurk also outspeeds so even with a crit on Earthquake, it is able to survive (unless Solrock get max damage twice). He can also try to set up a sub on a Stone Edge to get a free sub for the next pokemon.
