WARSTORY: The Lizard and the Lady

What's up Smogon? I'm here to present my first warstory to you. I played FLCL on PS! once it went back up, and I must admit that this was the most enjoyable match I've had in a very long time. But enough with the boring talk, and on with the warstory! My thoughts will be in dark green. I know I suck at naming stfu

FLCL's team:
Exeggutor / Emboar / Probopass / Absol / Gorebyss / Rotom-Fan

Alright, let's see what FLCL's got. I'm willing to bet that he's using a defensive Exeggutor set with Harvest, a Choice Band set on Emboar, a generic Probopass set, Swords Dance Absol, Shell Smash Gorebyss, and Choice Scarf Rotom-F. Absol and Exeggutor will be major pains to deal with if I predicted their sets correctly. I lead with Carvanha, because hey, maybe it'll have a chance to dent something.

Battle between FLCL and drakon136 started!
FLCL sent out Gorebyss!
drakon136 sent out Carvanha!

vs.

Well, I'm already off to a bad start. I had hoped he'd actually lead with Exeggutor so I could get a free Substitute on a likely Sunny Day. I'm pretty sure that Gorebyss can outspeed and OHKO Carvanha with Hydro Pump, so I decide to play it safe and go for a Substitute anyways.

Turn 1

Guest 4225 left.
Guest 5946 left.
Carvanha used Substitute!
Carvanha put in a substitute!
Carvanha lost 25% of its health!
The foe's Gorebyss used Surf!
It's not very effective... Carvanha's substitute faded!
Carvanha's Speed Boost raised its Speed!

Ooh, this is good. I guess Carvanha is faster after all. It also helps that he apparently isn't using a Shell Smash set. Might as well fish for some boosts for a bit.

Turn 2

Carvanha used Substitute!
Carvanha put in a substitute!
Carvanha lost 25% of its health!
The foe's Gorebyss used Surf!
It's not very effective... Carvanha's substitute faded!
Carvanha's Speed Boost raised its Speed!

Turn 3

Carvanha used Substitute!
Carvanha put in a substitute!
Carvanha lost 25% of its health!
Carvanha ate its Liechi Berry!
The Liechi Berry raised Carvanha's Attack!
The foe's Gorebyss used Surf!
It's not very effective... Carvanha's substitute faded!
Carvanha's Speed Boost raised its Speed!

Alright, moment of truth. Can a +1 Carvanha OHKO Gorebyss with Crunch? I doubt it. Can it 2HKO? Unlikely. Oh well, Carvanha was going to die anyways.

Turn 4

MMF: gorebyss
drakon136: BRING IT
MMF: best

Carvanha used Crunch!
The foe's Gorebyss lost 66% of its health!
The foe's Gorebyss used Surf!
It's not very effective... Carvanha lost 25% of its health!
Carvanha fainted!
The foe's Gorebyss restored HP using its Leftovers!

drakon136: well
FLCL: strong
drakon136: more than I thought it'd do
Guest 4550: good attempt..

I'm honesty surprised. I expected Gorebyss to take around 40% from that. Well, that probably puts it into KO range of Glalie's Explosion. I'm taking this chance to set up some Spikes and blow something up, so I switch in Glalie.

drakon136 sent out Glalie!

[KO] -->
vs.

Turn 5

Guest 4550: i guess.

Glalie used Spikes!
Spikes were scattered all around the feet of the foe's team!
The foe's Gorebyss used Surf!
Glalie lost 73% of its health!
The foe's Gorebyss restored HP using its Leftovers!

Nothing unexpected. One layer of Spikes is enough for me, so I go for Explosion.

Turn 6

Glalie used Explosion!
The foe's Gorebyss lost 46% of its health!
The foe's Gorebyss fainted!
Glalie fainted!

drakon136: the exploder dies last
FLCL: terrorists

Worked like a charm. Still don't get why Glalie exploded, but still died last. Not like it matters now. I decide to switch in Bastiodon, in hopes of setting up Stealth Rock.

FLCL sent out Probopass!
The foe's Probopass is hurt by the spikes!
drakon136 sent out Bastiodon!

[KO] -->
vs.
[KO] -->

Turn 7

Ooh, this is interesting. I wonder if Bastiodon can OHKO with Earthquake? I bet it can, so that's what I go with.

The foe's Probopass used Earth Power!
It's super effective! Bastiodon lost 83% of its health!
Bastiodon used Earthquake!
It's super effective! The foe's Probopass lost 43% of its health!
The foe's Probopass restored HP using its Leftovers!

Turn 8

Note to self: EQ coming off 140 Attack is weak. A 4x weakness won't change that by much. I probably should've either set up rocks or used Metal Burst to get the KO. Oh well, too late for that now. I go for Stealth Rock, because hey, he might misclick and switch out.

drakon136: derp

The foe's Probopass used Earth Power!
It's super effective! Bastiodon lost 17% of its health!
Bastiodon fainted!
The foe's Probopass restored HP using its Leftovers!

drakon136: meant to use that other move I forgot the name of
FLCL: metallic bursting?

As expected. Probopass staying in actually benefits me, because I can send in Gardevoir and trace Sturdy. I decide to do exactly that.

drakon136 sent out Gardevoir!
Gardevoir traced the foe's Probopass's Sturdy!

[KO] -->
vs.

Turn 9

I have a feeling that he's gonna try to set up Stealth Rock. Good thing I have Taunt!

drakon136: metal burst

Gardevoir used Taunt!
The foe's Probopass fell for the taunt!
The foe's Probopass can't use Stealth Rock after the taunt!
The foe's Probopass restored HP using its Leftovers!

Well, my prediction was right. Now that he's angry, he's got no choice but to switch and let me set up Light Screen. He could stay, but then I'd be able to set up both screens. I originally go for Reflect in case of Absol, but I decide to go for Light Screen in anticipation of Volt Switch...

Turn 10

drakon136: close enough

Gardevoir used Reflect!
Reflect raised your team's defense!
The foe's Probopass used Volt Switch!
A critical hit! Gardevoir lost 32% of its health!
FLCL called Probopass back!
FLCL sent out Exeggutor!
The foe's Exeggutor is hurt by the spikes!
The foe's Exeggutor restored HP using its Leftovers!

vs.
-->

...but it seems PS! disapproves of my decision. I ended up using Reflect, and he brought in Exeggutor instead of Absol. Don't know why he didn't bring in Absol to use Swords Dance, but oh well. He's probably using a Sunny Day set like I said earlier, so I use Taunt to stop the sun from rising.

Turn 11

drakon136: dammit I hit cancel
drakon136: and chose light screen

Gardevoir used Taunt!
The foe's Exeggutor fell for the taunt!
The foe's Exeggutor can't use Substitute after the taunt!
The foe's Exeggutor restored HP using its Leftovers!

Well, apparently it's not a Sunny Day set. At least Taunt did something. He'll probably switch to Absol to set up for a sweep, so I decide to take this opportunity to use Light Screen this time.

Turn 12

drakon136: NO

FLCL called Exeggutor back!
FLCL sent out Probopass!
The foe's Probopass is hurt by the spikes!
Gardevoir used Light Screen!
Light Screen raised your team's special defense!
The foe's Probopass restored HP using its Leftovers!

vs.
-->

Well, at least I was right about him switching out, even though I got the mon wrong. He'll probably go for Stealth Rock again, so I decide to Taunt Derpopass (not a typo) once more.

Turn 13

Gardevoir used Taunt!
The foe's Probopass fell for the taunt!
The foe's Probopass used Volt Switch!
Gardevoir lost 9% of its health!
FLCL called Probopass back!
FLCL sent out Exeggutor!
The foe's Exeggutor is hurt by the spikes!
The foe's Exeggutor restored HP using its Leftovers!

vs.
-->

*sigh* Why would he use Stealth Rock when he knew I had Taunt? That was a pretty big misplay for me, as it cost me a turn of my precious screens. I decide to switch out to Charizard in hopes of forcing it out and giving me time to set up.

Turn 14

drakon136: just

drakon136 called Gardevoir back!
drakon136 sent out Charizard!

It's not very effective... Charizard lost 8% of its health!
Charizard had its energy drained!
The foe's Exeggutor restored HP using its Leftovers!
Charizard restored HP using its Leftovers!

-->
vs.

Okay, I guess this definitely isn't a Sunny Day set. And if it were, I doubt he'd be stupid enough to use it against Charizard which always has Solar Power. Except for now, of course. He'll probably switch out, so I take this chance to set up.

Turn 15

FLCL: uh oh!!

FLCL called Exeggutor back!
FLCL sent out Probopass!
The foe's Probopass is hurt by the spikes!
Charizard used Hone Claws!
Charizard's Attack rose!
Charizard's Accuracy rose!
Charizard restored HP using its Leftovers!
The foe's Probopass restored HP using its Leftovers!

Ha! My plan worked! Now that Derpopass is back in, I can get rid of that stupid moustache magnet thing with DYNAMICPUNCH!.

Turn 16

Charizard used DynamicPunch!
It's super effective! The foe's Probopass lost 51% of its health!
The foe's Probopass fainted!

drakon136: gtfo derpopass

FLCL sent out Rotom-Fan!

vs.
[KO] -->

Oh boy. A slight problem here. I have no idea how much damage Volt Switch will do with Light Screen up. I don't think it 2HKOs, so I decide to use Hone Claws once more.

Turn 17

The foe's Rotom-Fan used Volt Switch!
It's super effective! Charizard lost 46% of its health!
FLCL called Rotom-Fan back!
FLCL sent out Emboar!
The foe's Emboar is hurt by the spikes!
Charizard used Hone Claws!
Charizard's Attack rose!
Charizard's Accuracy rose!
Charizard restored HP using its Leftovers!
Your team's reflect wore off!

vs.
-->

I was right! This gives me a chance to kill something again! Does Fire Blast outdamage DYNAMICPUNCH!? Nope. Knowing this, I go for DYNAMICPUNCH!.

Turn 18

drakon136: hmm

FLCL called Emboar back!
FLCL sent out Rotom-Fan!
Charizard used DynamicPunch!
It's not very effective... The foe's Rotom-Fan lost 25% of its health!
The foe's Rotom-Fan became confused!
Charizard restored HP using its Leftovers!

vs.
-->

PS! picks the perfect time to derp again. At least I managed to dent the fan. I bet he'll go for Volt Switch again, so I use Roost to recover the damage.

Turn 19

drakon136: hit dammit
FLCL: wtf i didnt weven click switch
drakon136: lol

FLCL called Rotom-Fan back!
FLCL sent out Emboar!
The foe's Emboar is hurt by the spikes!
Charizard used Roost!
Charizard regained health!
Your team's light screen wore off!

vs.
-->

And he switches straight to Emboar, probably to avoid any possible confusion hax. I decide to go for DYNAMICPUNCH! again, hoping I actually hit the stupid pig.

Turn 20

Charizard used DynamicPunch!
The foe's Emboar lost 52% of its health!
The foe's Emboar became confused!
The foe's Emboar is confused!
The foe's Emboar used Hidden Power!
Charizard lost 27% of its health!
Charizard restored HP using its Leftovers!

Okaaay, that doesn't seem like a Choice Band set to me. Well, that makes my life happier. I go for Fire Blast, seeing as Emboar's health is low enough to die from one hit of it. I hope.

Turn 21

Charizard used Fire Blast!
It's not very effective... The foe's Emboar lost 23% of its health!
The foe's Emboar fainted!
Charizard restored HP using its Leftovers!

Guest 6102: honezard strong
MMF: its just switching on its own now
drakon136: sarcasm or srs

FLCL sent out Rotom-Fan!

vs.
[KO] -->

I was right... and here comes the damn fan again. I have a big problem right now. Light Screen faded already, and Rotom-F can KO with Volt Switch now. I decide to play it safe and sacrifice Wartortle.

Turn 22

drakon136 called Charizard back!
drakon136 sent out Wartortle!
The foe's Rotom-Fan used Thunderbolt!
It's super effective! Wartortle lost 52% of its health!

-->
vs.

What a sacrifice! So awesome that it doesn't even die when sent it to die. He's probably gonna use Thunderbolt again, so I go for Protect to stall a bit.

Turn 23

FLCL called Rotom-Fan back!
FLCL sent out Absol!
The foe's Absol is hurt by the spikes!
Wartortle used Protect!
But it failed!

vs.
-->

Aaand he switched. To Absol. I really don't like Absol. It can take out Charizard easily with Sucker Punch. I bet he'll go for a Swords Dance, so I decide to burn it with a Scald.

Turn 24

The foe's Absol used Night Slash!
Wartortle lost 41% of its health!
The foe's Absol lost some of its HP!
Wartortle used Scald!
The foe's Absol lost 54% of its health!

I bet he attacked in anticipation of a burn from Scald that would've crippled Absol. Kinda surprised that Scald did that much. Not like Wartortle can survive any longer, so I go with an old strategy: Protect!

Turn 25

drakon136: turtle strong
MMF: weaksol

Wartortle used Protect!
Wartortle protected itself!
The foe's Absol used Night Slash!
Wartortle protected itself!

Not like I can really do anything but die here. Guess what I do?

Turn 26

The foe's Absol used Night Slash!
Wartortle lost 7% of its health!
The foe's Absol lost some of its HP!
Wartortle fainted!
drakon136 sent out Gardevoir!
Gardevoir traced the foe's Absol's Super Luck!

[KO] -->
vs.

I sent in Gardevoir in hopes of doing one very risky strategy: crippling Absol with Memento, bringing in Charizard, then killing Rotom-F as it switches in. If I do that, then I win. If he keeps Absol in, I lose. If he switches to Exeggutor, I lose. That means I have about a 28% chance of success. Those odds, I can handle.

Turn 27

drakon136: one chance
drakon136: and that is pure fucking luck

Gardevoir used Memento!
The foe's Absol's Attack harshly fell!
The foe's Absol's Special Attack harshly fell!
Gardevoir fainted!
The foe's Absol used Night Slash!
But there was no target...
drakon136 sent out Charizard!

[KO] -->
vs.

Time to pray!

Turn 28

Charizard used Fire Blast!
The foe's Absol lost 14% of its health!
The foe's Absol fainted!
Charizard restored HP using its Leftovers!

MMF: flcl will lose

FLCL sent out Rotom-Fan!

vs.
[KO] -->

SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT. That means game over for me. In hindsight, I probably should've used Light Screen. That way, Charizard would've been able to survive a Thunderbolt or two Volt Switches and KOed Rotom-F and Exeggutor. Oh well, what's done is done. I accept my defeat with dignity.

Turn 29

drakon136: crap
MMF: i can feel it
MMF: and i will rofl

Props:
  • FLCL for giving me an awesome match
  • Gardevoir for setting up the screens that saved me from a crushing defeat
  • Charizard for being a bro and killing 3 things w/o sun
  • Rotom-F for being a pain in my side for the entire match

Slops:
  • Carvanha for being predictably useless
  • Exeggutor for doing nothing
  • Me for not setting up Stealth Rock when I had the chance. Probably would've won if I set them up
  • Me using Memento on turn 27 instead of Light Screen. I would've won if I had used Light Screen
  • PS! for derping twice

My MVP:

You may not agree, but I believe that Gardevoir was my MVP. If it weren't for her setting up screens, Charizard wouldn't have been able to set up, survive hits from Rotom-F like he did, or have a chance to KO anything.

-----

Well, I hope you enjoyed my first warstory! Thank you for taking the time to read through it, and I hope you give me your opinion of it.

What's the point of Carvanha? It does nothing.

Secondly, I don't understand why you got up a single layer and exploded when Gorebyss could've been easily revenged.

Heck, if you were using a good pokemon like Garbodor you probably could've gotten 3 layers up and done the exact same thing.

1. I was using Carvanha because I had wanted to try it out now that Liechi Berry was released.

2. Do I have anything that could've revenged Gorebyss? Glalie, Carvanha and Charizard are my only mons with any offensive presence whatsoever.

FLCL had a pretty big team advantage on you. It was the screens that made the game at all close, as without them Rotom would have rolled you with just Thunderbolt after Bastiodon got a bit weakened. Still, good job to make it closer. Honezard cracked me up.

Great war story Drakon. That Charizard and Carvanha made my day. FLCL's Gorebyss is a Sub Shell Smash set so yeah. Too bad PS! screwed up everyone's turns yesterday.

Love the use of Lechi Berry Carvanha, and HoneZard. Unorthodox movesets kicks people where it hurt.
