Walking Wake is an excellent wallbreaker thanks to its great typing, solid offensive stats, and Protosynthesis. Walking Wake's solid defensive typing lets it safely set up Substitute against foes such as Toxapex, Garganacl, and most Gastrodon, protecting it from their utility moves; Substitute also protects it against revenge killers such as Tapu Lele, Mega Lopunny, and Iron Valiant. Sunny Day activates Protosynthesis and lets Walking Wake shut down opposing weather from foes such as Pelipper and Mega Tyranitar, hindering their effectiveness. Flamethrower can be used to eliminate Pokemon like Ferrothorn, but it leaves Walking Wake unable to efficiently threaten Toxapex and Gastrodon. Leftovers improve Walking Wake's longevity, allowing it to set Substitute more often throughout a match. Metronome is an alternative that improves Walking Wake's wallbreaking power alongside Tera Dragon for foes such as Toxapex and Tera Garganacl, though the lack of passive recovery is not ideal. An alternative spread using 244 Special Attack can be used to give Walking Wake a Speed Protosynthesis boost, letting it outspeed would-be revenge killers such as Dragapult. Tera Dragon increases the power of Dragon Pulse so Walking Wake can 2HKO foes such as Toxapex. It also prevents Ferrothorn and Rotom-W from breaking Walking Wake's Substitute with Power Whip and Volt Switch respectively. Walking Wake fits best on offensive teams, which appreciate its wallbreaking capabilities. Teammates such as Mega Lopunny and Tornadus-T can provide pivoting support for Walking Wake, granting it free entry against foes such as Toxapex, Slowbro, and Heatran. Tornadus-T also provides entry hazard removal so Walking Wake can stay healthy during a match. Walking Wake appreciates teammates such as Tapu Lele and Mega Lopunny wearing down defensive foes such as Ferrothorn, making it easier for Walking Wake to break through them. Ferrothorn takes advantage of foes such as Tera Fairy Gastrodon and Tapu Fini—who Walking Wake struggles against—to set entry hazards for its teammates. Walking Wake is vulnerable to revenge killers such as Dragapult and—if Walking Wake uses Tera Dragon—Weavile, so it appreciates teammates such as Kingambit and Mega Scizor handling them. Teammates such as Mega Lopunny, Iron Valiant, and Mega Diancie appreciate Walking Wake breaking through foes such as Toxapex and Hippowdon for them; in return, they can threaten more fast-paced teams that Walking Wake can struggle to reliably use Substitute against.
