[SET COMMENTS]
With a variety of coverage options and an immunity to entry hazards thanks to Heavy-Duty Boots, Volcarona is one of the most dangerous setup sweepers in the tier, able to outspeed the entire unboosted metagame as well as most Choice Scarf users after a single Quiver Dance. It is even capable of muscling past Blissey thanks to Max Flare setting sun. In addition, a resistance to Behemoth Blade and a high Special Defense gives it tremendous staying power when Dynamaxed. This variant best fits on offensive teams that appreciate the pressure it puts on balance cores. Psychic hits Pokemon that could otherwise tank Fire Blast such as Eternatus and Toxapex, while Bug Buzz deals massive damage to Tyranitar and Quagsire. Alternatively, U-turn can be used as a non-weather-reliant way to hit Tyranitar while maintaining momentum against bulkier teams. Giga Drain is another niche option that can be run to guarantee the OHKO on Dynamaxed Quagsire when Volcarona is also Dynamaxed while retaining coverage on Tyranitar.
This set best functions as a mid- to late-game wallbreaker due to Volcarona's ability to muscle past opposing walls with Dynamax. Set up on Pokemon that are unable to status Volcarona, as poison and paralysis greatly reduce its effectiveness. It should also avoid potential Knock Off users at all costs, as taking Stealth Rock damage quickly cuts its longevity. Opposing Dugtrio should also be handled before setting up, as Choice Scarf Dugtrio can outspeed and OHKO +1 Volcarona. Volcarona should be paired with partners that appreciate having opposing walls worn down such as Zacian-C and Dragon Dance Necrozma-DM, which can also absorb Toxic for Volcarona. However, it should not be paired with other Pokemon that rely on Dynamax such as Kyurem-B and Dragapult. As having entry hazards on the opposing side allows Volcarona to make the most use of its Dynamax turns, hazard setters such as Mew and Skarmory make excellent teammates.

[SET COMMENTS]
This set utilizes Volcarona's decent bulk and ability to punish physical attackers with Flame Body to give bulkier teams a reliable late-game cleaner. This variant's primary selling point is Safeguard, allowing Volcarona to set up without fear of getting statused. However, due to the lack of coverage options, this variant does not fit well on more offensive builds, as it quickly kills momentum.
Volcarona is best used as a late-game cleaner once its checks are gone. This includes walls that don't rely on status to beat it, such as Toxapex and Tyranitar, as well as offensive threats that do not fear Fiery Dance such as Gyarados and Zekrom. Volcarona also needs to be wary of Dugtrio, which can outspeed a +1 Volcarona and OHKO it with Stone Edge. Although Volcarona should not be switched in to potential status moves, it can be brought in on a creative double switch or after sacking a teammate. Volcarona should set up on Pokemon that rely on status to beat it, including Blissey and Tyranitar that lacks Rock-type attacks. An offensive set can be bluffed early-game to induce your opponent to rely on bulkier Pokemon to check Volcarona, which it can then set up on with Safeguard. Teammates to take on the aforementioned physical threats, such as defensive Eternatus, Quagsire, and Necrozma-DM, are appreciated. Dugtrio deserves a special mention for being able to trap and KO Eternatus and Reshiram, which Volcarona would otherwise struggle breaking, as well as Tyranitar and Toxapex.
