Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
An aspiring Trainer needs to face many challenges on their road to becoming a master. For this Trainer, those challenges are numerous, and take the form of one-on-one battles here in the ASB Arena.
Spark ~ Wild Charge ~ Spark
IF Mudkip successfully uses Bide A1, THEN Protect A3.
IF Counter AND Mudkip is NOT paralyzed AND Mudkip is NOT behind a Substitute THEN Thunder Wave, pushing actions back.
IF Counter THEN Charge, pushing actions back.
This is the second 1v1 I've reffed where Sally has been put into a bad matchup. Don't worry, little one, you'll get your Ground-type soon.
Suci...Shooci...Shinx uses Spark to start things off, which gets boosted even farther in power thanks to her Rivalry ability! Wait, are the two of them even in the same egg group? No, they're not. What's the big deal then, Sooshieus? Sally can't be your rival in mating, so why beat her up like that? Ah, well. Sally takes the defensive once again, afflicting Shinx with a Toxic poison that will slowly add up damage over time.
Shinx keeps up the offense, lunging straight at Sally with a Wild Charge that throws her straight across the arena! Sally has a tough time getting up, but she's still doing fine! Well, she looks a bit tired. Oh, wait, no, that's just a Yawn attack! Shinx sure looks drowsy now...
Shinx comes in from the side, catching Sally with another Spark! This one hurts a lot, as well. Sally sure is taking a beating from all of these Electric-type moves, and the Rivalry boost isn't doing her any favors. She retaliates with an actual damaging move this time--a brutal Avalanche descends from above and crashes down on Slooshines for decent damage. Thanks to Shinx's Intimidate from earlier, Sally's damage isn't quite what it could be.
Sally's defensive strategy should be taking effect next round, but does she have the time to pull this off? Find out next time!

Amazing. It's Sucineus' first ASB battle and she's about to take a nap mid-fight.
Sucineus: "I can't believe my trainer gave me such a stupid name. Call me Sue for short if it helps."
But if I may ask regarding the "boring math" above: what does the -6 in Sucineus' damage calculation represent? Is that the Mudkip's defense? That should be -3 since its defense is two (unless there's something else I overlooked), right?
Slooshie fell asleep, but not before Protecting against Sally's wildest Endeavors to stay in this game. Sally then dropped a whole lot of rocks (x2 combo!) which didn't even do as much damage as Spark did last round. Cooldown happened. At least poison hurt Veo lu Sluice a bit more.
action 1
shinx used protect! -7 EN
shinx protected itself!
mudkip used endeavor! -20 EN
((67 - 25) / 2) = 21 damage to shinx
shinx protected itself! -8 EN
Of course I spend all my time running damage maths in my head only to completely miscalculate the timing on Yawn. I blame Sucineus for this.
Sucineus: "Zzz..."
Wild Charge + Wild Charge ~ Cooldown (Wild Charge + Wild Charge) ~ Cooldown (Wild Charge + Wild Charge)
ONCE, if Dodge THEN Thunder Wave, pushing actions back.
IF Mudkip successfully uses a protective/evasive move AND Shinx's first substitution did NOT activate that action AND Shinx does NOT have a Substitute in play, THEN Substitute (15 HP), pushing actions back.
IF Mud Sport, THEN use Night Slash, replace the next action with Night Slash + Night Slash, and replace the action after that with Cooldown (Night Slash + Night Slash).
