  • Swords Dance, mixed with Kingambit's naturally high Attack as well as access to Defiant to scare off Intimidate users and priority in Sucker Punch, makes it one of the most effective set up sweepers in the metagame. Its respectable bulk, especially its 120 base Defense, often allows it to setup multiple Swords Dances in one match.
  • Kowtow Cleave offers strong and consistent damage. It OHKOes Gholdengo and Indeedee-F without a boost, and decimates even bulky Pokemon like Amoonguss and Entei at +2, netting guaranteed KOes after minimal chip damage.
  • Sucker Punch compensates for Kingambit's low Speed, OHKOing faster attackers such as Landorus, Ogerpon-W, and Flutter Mane after a boost. It also allows Kingambit to revenge kill weakened foes when entering the field.
  • Dread Plate (or Black Glasses) is vital for Kingambit to secure numerous benchmarks for OHKOes or 2HKOes, such as Landorus with Sucker Punch or Ogerpon-W with Kowtow Cleave. Other items can be used in niche scenarios, such as Safety Goggles on teams particularly weak to Amoonguss, or Grassy Seed on teams with Rillaboom to become resillient to most physical attacks.
  • Kingambit has a multitude of options for its Tera type. Dark Tera can be used to strengthen its attacks and reduce its Fighting-weakness to only 2x while removing its weaknesses to Fire and Ground at the cost of becoming weak to Fairy-type attacks. Fire Tera grants Kingambit an immunity to Will-O-Wisp as well as crucial resistances to Fairy and Fire, but retains its Ground weakness and the Water weakness can be exploited by Volcanion and Ogerpon-W. Fairy Tera removes all of Kingambit's base weaknesses but doesn't grant many useful resistances besides to Fighting-type attacks.
  • Kingambit appreciates partners that can create space for it to setup a Swords Dance, this includes Fake Out users such as Incineroar, Rillaboom, and Iron Hands, and redirection support from the likes of Amoonguss and Ogerpon-W. One bonus of running Incineroar is that it actually improves Kingambit's matchup into opposing Incineroar, as it can easily switch in to Flare Blitz if necessary or at least reduce the damage Kingambit takes from an opposing Incineroar's Flare Blitz. Landorus fends off some of Kingambit's biggest threats including Iron Hands and Entei, while Landorus appreciates Kingambit's ability to remove some of its threats like Ogerpon-W and Flutter Mane with a boosted Sucker Punch. Landorus is also one of Kingambit's best offensive checks, so it appreciates the support of Jolly Ogerpon-W, Chien-Pao, and Choice Specs Icy Wind Flutter Mane to threaten it offensively.
  • Kingambit's Defiant supports strong physical attackers such as Rillaboom, Ogerpon-W, and Chien-Pao by deterring opposing Intimidate. Its Steel-typing and opportunity to get a Defiant boost from Bleakwind Storm also make it one of the strongest Tornadus checks in the tier, which is appreciated by the aforementioned Grass-types.

  • Dread Plate (or Black Glasses) is vital for Kingambit to secure numerous benchmarks for OHKOes or 2HKOes (worthwhile to elaborate upon which benchmarks, so the player knows what to account for when changing items), however other items can be used in niche scenarios, such as Safety Goggles on teams particularly weak to Amoonguss, or Grassy Seed on teams with Rillaboom to become impervious (great word but w/ impervious i think of just outright taking 0, i'd prefer a different term) to most physical attacks.
  • Kingambit has a multitude of options for its Tera type. Dark Tera can be used to strengthen its attacks and reduce its Fighting-weakness to only 2x while removing its weaknesses to Fire and Ground at the cost of becoming weak to Fairy-type attacks. Fire Tera grants Kingambit an immunity to Will-O-Wisp as well as crucial resistances to Fairy and Fire, but retains its Ground weakness and the weakness to Water Water weakness can be exploited by Volcanion and Ogerpon-W. Fairy Tera removes all of Kingambit's natural ("base"?) weaknesses but doesn't grant it many useful resistances besides to Fighting-type attacks.
  • Kingambit appreciates partners that can create space for it to setup a Swords Dance, this includes Fake Out users such as Incineroar, Rillaboom, and Iron Hands, and redirection support from the likes of Amoonguss and Ogerpon-W. • i'd add something about incineroar in this bullet point; its true that it will be deterred from switching in, but this set can't hurt it and you are forced to tera for flare blitz. probably good to mention in the lando line or add it to jolly waterpon
  • Kingambit's Defiant can support supports strong physical attackers such as Rillaboom, Ogerpon-W, and Chien-Pao by deterring opposing Intimidate. Its Steel-typing and potential ("opportunity"?) to get a Defiant boost from Bleakwind Storm also make it one of the strongest Tornadus checks in the tier, which is appreciated by the aforementioned Grass-types.

I would modify this to be more that it's just generally good neutrally

it's generally hinted at throughout the analysis, particularly in the kowtow section, but it could be made more clear either in the sucker section or teammates section that it's super wary of common redirectors and a path needs to be cleared through them, as I don't think it can do it all alone without taking too much chip and also having the resources to setup
