Vespiquen is a poor choice for ZU due to its horrible defensive typing and poor stats making it incapable of switching into common attackers in the tier like Jynx and Silvally formes. Use Articuno or Alolan Persian, which are superior defensive pivots with better stats and typing for the metagame and can pose an offensive threat.

Vespiquen attempts to wall special attackers with this set while providing defensive support with Defog and bringing in teammates safely with U-turn. However, its terrible stats mean it often can't even switch into common special attackers safely without being KOed by their coverage or STAB attacks, let alone wall them. Articuno and Alolan Persian are able to more reliably switch into common special attackers like Froslass, Silvally-Water, and Skuntank due to their better stats and typings that are better suited to the metagame, while Altaria outclasses Vespiquen as a Defogger due to its better typing and Natural Cure letting it absorb status.
