Anyway, nothing to surprising on the list though. Bronzong as #1 lead is surprising though, thought it would have fallen. Heatran as #1 is no shocker though, it'll probably stay that way for a while. It's also funny that 62% of Heatran are Choice Scarf. I suspect that will go up as time progresses.

Heatran is basically like the "glue" that keeps teams safer from Shaymin and Scizor among all the other things it used to revenge. It's fucking awesome.

Gyarados and Salamence jousting for the 3rd and 4th spot is no surprise. They both can switch into Scarf Heatran, pose great threats with Dragon Dance (to the point that only Deoxys can revenge Salamence reliably), and otherwise fuck things up.

Why did Porygon2 and Jirachi plummet? They were popular in August Suspect, and you'd think Pory2 would be MORE useful now. Mmm.. Serene Trace Discharge.

What is overused and what is frequently used in Ubers, UU and Suspect?

As per the Policy Review thread, since Doug's statistics convey different information from Colin's, the criterion for a Pokemon to be OU also had to change.

It is now even easier to calculate. The quota for a Pokemon to be OU is calculated to be the sum of all usages divided by 176.1407. A Pokemon having its usage above this quota is OU. Simple as that.

There is also another calculation, used to determine the frequently-used Pokemon. Frequently used Pokemon are always OU but the reverse is not true. In essence, a frequently-used Pokemon is defined to be one in which it is expected to be seen in one out of every two battles on average. The quota for a Pokemon to be frequently used is the sum of all usages divided by 37.7113. Often, the higher the number of frequently-used Pokemon in a metagame, the more centralised it is and the lower the number of OU Pokemon in that metagame is.

this doesn't surprise me, heatran useage has soared as a consiquence of scizor, both as a cover AND as a counter, piled on with its regular pre-platinum runs, skymin is only 17th due to the fact everyone wants to try it or think its broken (its less broken then people think) this month should give a better indication of where the metagame is in terms of scizor, gengar, heatran and skymin

Not surprising at all that Heatran is number 1, without it, you're basically asking for a disadvantage to start the battle with the number of Scizors and Skymins.

Speaking of Skymin, wow, 17 already with less than half a month of usage.

I'm surprised Mamoswine isn't higher than the lower 20s. It can take out all the top 5 if used properly, more reason to use it I guess ^_^

Actually, it was only 9 days. I implemented the Platinum changes on the Smogon server on September 21st. Pretty amazing, huh? If you prorate that usage over the entire month, Skymin is easily the most-used pokemon on the server.

I'm not at all suprised with Heatran's ascendancy in the Platinum statistics.

I must have had a major influence on Bronzong and its first-place in September's "lead" statistics because I would have never thought it would be first. Apart from myself and the occasional match, I have not crossed paths with Bronzong opposition, let alone Bronzong that lead; I play many matches each month, which is why I am shocked.

I must have battled a lot more than I thought I did last month. Electrode's #1 item is Damp Rock and Bronzong used Rain Dance enough for it to be separate from "Other." Ditto with Washing Machine Rotom.

Actually, it was only 9 days. I implemented the Platinum changes on the Smogon server on September 21st. Pretty amazing, huh? If you prorate that usage over the entire month, Skymin is easily the most-used pokemon on the server.

That just makes it worse :|.

I seemed to have confused Garchomp's banning date with the plat changes date.

Ok, here's a little fun stuff for those of you that like statistical trivia.

I was wondering which Pokemon + Move combo has the highest percentage amongst widely used pokemon? Turns out the answer is.... Mamoswine + Earthquake. Over 99.7% of all Mamoswine carry EQ.

I decided to run a little query to see which combos were most common. It turns out that it is very rare for a move to be present on more than 90% of a given species. Here's a list of all the combos greater than 90% on pokemon that have been used more than 5000 times in September. I sorted it by name so you can see which pokemon actually have TWO moves used on over 90% of them.

Random battles are ignored when gathering statistics. But, we have seen cases where it appears that people actually save their random teams and use them in the ladder. I have no idea why, but it does happen.
