Setup (Garganacl) @ Leftovers / Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Purifying Salt
Tera Type: Water / Fairy
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Salt Cure
- Iron Defense / Curse
- Body Press / Earthquake
- Recover
[SET COMMENTS]
Garganacl acts as an anti-metagame setup sweeper with the potential to clean up games with enough boosts and Salt Cure to punish Steel- and Water-types like Magearna, Solgaleo, and Palkia-O that might try to swap in to deal with it, while also having the potential to clean up games with enough boosts. Garganacl can use Iron Defense to become unbeatable on the physical side, while its stats give it enough bulk to survive most special attacks comfortably. Alternatively, it can use Curse to boost its attack and hit harder with Salt Cure or a coverage move, although this is considerably slower than Iron Defense. Body Press is used to take advantage of Iron Defense's boosts while also hitting Arceus-Dark and Chi-Yu for supereffective, while Earthquake provides better coverage against Pokemon like Giratina and Slowking-Galar if Garganacl is using Curse as its boosting move. Leftovers gives Garganacl some passive healing, allowing it to heal while setting up, although Heavy-Duty Boots can be used instead. Tera Water allows Garganacl to resist Water-type attacks from Pokemon like Palkia-O and Palafin, while Tera Fairy can be used to give it an immunity to Dragon-type attacks, more specifically preventing Dragon Tail from Dialga and Giratina from phazing it. Physical attackers that struggle against Giratina like Zamazenta-C and Palafin appreciate Garganacl's ability to absorb status and resist Ghost. Teammates that struggle against Chi-yu or Magearna, such as Chien-Pao and Mewtwo, greatly benefit from Garganacl's ability to check these foes. Garganacl struggles against Grass- and Water-type Pokemon like Rillaboom and Palkia-O, so teammates that can switch into their attacks like Arceus-Grass and Dialga form a very solid defensive core with it
