* Salamence supports its team well with Intimidate against threats such as Dondozo and Tauros-P while holding its own offensively thanks to its great movepool and solid stats.
* Terastallization is a boon for Salamence, removing its weaknesses to common types such as Dragon while letting it gain great resistances such as that to Steel.
* Salamence is commonly paired with Palafin on rain teams with Pelipper and synergizes almost perfectly with it, among other allies such as Kingambit and Gholdengo.
* Salamence is frail and a single stat drop from moves like Draco Meteor can severely affect its damage output so one must play wisely with it.
* Common checks to Salamence include other Dragon-types such as Garchomp and Dragapult which force it to Terastallize, so one should pair it with allies that can help against such weaknesses like Sylveon. Intimidate also gives a potentially deadly boost to opposing Defiant Kingambit so one should be careful to play around that.

* Tailwind is great support for Salamence's allies as it can set it up relatively safely with its high Speed.
* Life Orb gives a big boost to Salamence's damage output, allowing it to OHKO or 2HKO almost the entire metagame with its STAB moves.
* Modest nature serves to shoot up Salamence's offensive potential even higher, but Timid can be used to set up Tailwind as fast as possible, or outspeed other Salamence not fully invested in Speed or those with a Modest nature.
* The Steel Tera type greatly benefits Salamence, giving it key resistances to Dragon- and Steel-type moves, with the latter being utilized by Kingambit and Steel Tera Make It Rain Gholdengo. It also comes with the added benefit of letting Salamence completely shut down Maushold thanks to Intimidate reducing Population Bomb's damage even further.
