BSS Rillaboom [QC 2/2][GP 1/1] (now updated for Regulation F!)

[SET]
name: Offensive
move 1: Grassy Glide
move 2: Knock Off
move 3: U-turn / Tera Blast
move 4: High Horsepower / U-turn / Drum Beating / Wood Hammer
item: Assault Vest / Choice Band
tera type: Fire / Rock / Grass
ability: Grassy Surge
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def

[SET COMMENTS]

* Rillaboom’s physical stats, Grassy Surge, and decently powerful priority give it a unique niche over Ogerpon-H.

* **U-turn**: Rillaboom is a fairly good pivot, especially when paired with teammates that love Grassy Terrain support like Raging Bolt and Grassy Seed Sneasler.

* **Drum Beating versus Wood Hammer**: A secondary Grass-type attack can be considered for extra power. Drum Beating's speed control can help incoming teammates, while Wood Hammer's high Base Power combined with the Terrain Boost can OHKO threats such as Chien-Pao, Flutter Mane, and Ursaluna-B.

* **High Horsepower**: While Knock Off will deal more initial damage against Gholdengo, High Horsepower deals more damage afterwards against particularly bulky Gholdengo, and is Rillaboom's best attack against bulky Fire-types like Gouging Fire and Incineroar.

* **Tera Blast**: Tera Blast can be a big commitment, but the ability to flip several important matchups can be worth it, especially if it supports incoming teammates.

* **Assault Vest versus Choice Band**: Assault Vest is best for making Rillaboom a bulky offensive support Pokemon, letting it take on powerful special attackers like Flutter Mane and Ursaluna-B more effectively. Choice Band is more independent and relies much more on pivoting, but it makes Rillaboom an awesome revenge killer that strikes fear into the heart of all but very bulky Flutter Mane!

Tera Types
========

* **Tera Dependency - Medium**: Rillaboom generally wants to save Tera for a teammate, but many poor matchups can be turned around with Terastallization when needed.

* **Fire**: Tera Fire grants a Fairy resistance alongside Fire and Ice resistances for Ogerpon-H and Chien-Pao, as well as protection from burn spreaders like Entei. However, this comes at the expense of no longer being able to defensively check Urshifu-R.

* **Rock**: Tera Rock can flip the script on Extreme Speed Dragonite, Ogerpon-H, and Gouging Fire by resisting their best attack and retaliating with big damage from Tera Blast.

* **Grass**: Tera Grass makes Grassy Glide even more effective at sniping foes, with Assault Vest Rillaboom now being able to OHKO offensive Urshifu-R.

* **Ice**: Tera Ice is a poor defensive type outside of the Iron Bundle matchup, but with Tera Blast, it's Rillaboom’s most powerful option for hitting Dragonite and Landorus-T.

* **Water**: Tera Water provides a balanced defensive profile, giving Rillaboom Ice and Fire resistances while maintaining its matchup into Urshifu-R.

Alternate EV Spreads
========

* **140 HP / 148 Atk / 4 Def / 156 SpD / 60 Spe with Adamant**: With Assault Vest and Grassy Surge recovery, this spread avoids the 2HKO from Iron Bundle's Freeze-Dry without having to Terastallize. The Speed investment lets Rillaboom outrun Jolly Garchomp after a single Drum Beating.

* **4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe with Adamant or Jolly**: Severely compromising Rillaboom's bulk is risky, but outspeeding Modest or Timid Gholdengo depending on the nature used can be a big surprise when using Choice Band Rillaboom.

[SET COMMENTS]

* Rillaboom’s physical stats, Grassy Surge ability, (AC) and access to U-turn give it a unique niche over Amoonguss as a Grass-type pivot.

* **Drum Beating versus Wood Hammer**: Drum Beating's speed control can help set up teammates, while Wood Hammer's high base power combined with the terrain boost can OHKO threats such as Chien-Pao, Flutter Mane, (AC) and Ursaluna. If desired, both have distinct traits that can make them worthwhile to run together.

* **Tera Blast**: Tera Blast can be a big commitment, (RC) but the ability to flip several big matchups can be worth it, especially if it supports incoming teammates.

Other Options
========

* **Taunt with an Alternate Item**: If willing to forgo Assault Vest, (RC) Taunt remains a great option for disrupting bulkier targets such as Ting-Lu. For item replacements, Leftovers and Sitrus Berry are notable for improving general longevity. (Maybe consider combining this setence with the first)

* **Stomping Tantrum**: Stomping Tantrum deals significantly more damage to Heatran than Drain Punch, but is otherwise a weaker coverage option.

Tera Types
========

* **Tera Dependency - Medium**: Rillaboom generally wants to save Tera for a teammate, but many poor matchups can be turned around with Terastallization when needed.

* **Rock**: Tera Rock can flip the script on Extreme Speed Dragonite and Tera Flying Thundurus-T, resisting their best attack and retaliating with big damage from Tera Blast.

* **Water**: Tera Water provides a balanced defensive profile, (RC) giving Rillaboom Ice- and Fire-type resistances, (AC) while maintaining its matchup into Urshifu-R.

* **Fire**: Tera Fire grants a Fairy-type resistance alongside Fire- and Ice-type resistances, but at the expense of no longer being able to check Urshifu-R.

* **Ice**: Tera Ice is a poor defensive type outside of the Iron Bundle matchup, but with Tera Blast it's Rillaboom’s most powerful option for hitting Dragonite and Landorus-T.

* **Steel**: Tera Steel is notable for improving the Flutter Mane, Iron Bundle, (AC) and Mimikyu matchups simultaneously. With Tera Blast, (RC) Steel most Flutter Mane and busted Mimikyu can be OHKOd.

Alternate EV Spread
========

* **140 HP / 148 Atk / 4 Def / 156 SpD / 60 Spe with Adamant**: With Assault Vest and Grassy Surge recovery, this spread avoids the 2HKO from Iron Bundle's Freeze-Dry without having to use Tera. The Speed investment lets Rillaboom outrun Jolly Ursaluna, as well as Jolly Garchomp after a single Drum Beating.

[SET COMMENTS]

* Rillaboom's deep learnset allow it to adapt to a variety of roles as a Focus Sash user, and it's able to take on the most common Focus Sash counter: (Rcolon) Urshifu-R.

* **Tera Blast**: Tera Blast is an excellent option for Rillaboom, helping patch up its mediocre offensive coverage.

* **Fake Out**: Fake Out helps win Focus Sash mirrors, particularly against faster targets like Chien-Pao.

* **Taunt**: Taunt prevents targets such as Cresselia and Toxapex, (RH) (AC) who otherwise wall Rillaboom– (RH)from setting up in front of it. If not running Tera Blast coverage for Dragonite, (RC) Taunt is also useful to prevent Dragon Dance usage.

* **Adamant versus Jolly**: Adamant with maximum Speed investment is enough to outrun most Dragonite, but Jolly guarantees you outrun all Dragonite as well as Timid Gholdengo.

Other Options
========

* **Stomping Tantrum**: Stomping Tantrum is one of Rillaboom's better options for hitting Heatran, but its low base power means it normally will not OHKO.

* **Endeavor**: Endeavor is a tempting move when used next to Focus Sash, but Rillaboom’s middling base Speed combined with Grassy Terrain recovery make it awkward to use in most situations.

Tera Types
======

* **Tera Dependency - Low / Medium**: Rillaboom usually isn’t in danger of getting knocked out through Focus Sash, but sets that use Tera Blast will rely on it to surprise would-be checks.

* **Fire**: Tera Fire with Tera Blast Tera Blast Fire hits Steel-types for massive damage. (RP) when combined with Fake Out, it can also be used to defeat Focus Sash Chien-Pao.

* **Ice**: Tera Ice with Tera Blast Tera Blast Ice will take a big chunk out of targets such as Dragonite, Landorus-T, and Zapdos.

* **Grass**: Tera Grass powers up Drum Beating, and is the most sensible option when not running Tera Blast.

when reg E is released perhaps, glide is heavily nerfed now though so we’ll have to see just how useful the move will be, especially with tera espeed being so common and on so many great picks.

I'd update high horsepower over the stomping tantrum mention, and put in a grassy seed set over the much less common sash. Um, if this still is in the works that is, idk.

Uhh ok I forgot about the "Rescue My Daughter" part of that... but yeah I resurrected Rillaboom! While Rillaboom is not as crazy popular as it used to be, it still appears, and is partially responsible (alongside Indeedee-M) for Sneasler clawing its way back up in usage! I did unfortunately remove the Focus Sash set, since I think most Sash sets are running SD now and are just altered beast altogether (hehehehe) that prefer Grassy Seed or Life Orb.

Still I'm gonna post the original writing here in case we need to bring it back or if a QC member wants that set to be modified specifically too. But for the first set, I was able to rewrite parts of it to fit Regulation F and the important Grassy Glide! I think if we get this one last QC check, Rillaboom can finally swing to its place onsite!

Thanks for updating this for me! Looks good to me... main thing I changed is that Tera Fire is the highest used now. I moved that up in the summary and bullets and made note of the fact that it helps against Ogerpon-H.

Technically speaking, I'm not sure if I can QC check this since it was originally mine. I'm going to mark it as ready for copyediting but I'll let you tag it for the GP queue just in case we need another set of eyes on this first.

Drain Punch could be an ok slash in last slot regardless of which of the 2 items is used. Hanging on at 10.1%, #10 move.

* **Fire**: Tera Fire grants a Fairy-type resistance alongside Fire- and Ice-type Fire and Ice resistances for Ogerpon-H and Chien-Pao, respectively, as well as protection from burn spreaders like Entei. (respectively is used to clear up ambiguity in lists, but we don't assume the type chart is ambiguous. we know which one is a fire type and which is an ice type, so specifying with respectively isn't needed) However, this comes at the expense of no longer being able to defensively check Urshifu-R.

* **Rock**: Tera Rock can flip the script on Extreme Speed Dragonite, Ogerpon-H, and Gouging Fire by resisting their best attack and retaliating with big damage from Tera Blast.

* **Grass**: Tera Grass makes Grassy Glide even more effective at sniping foes, with Urshifu-R being an excellent new KO pick-up when using Assault Vest Rillaboom being able to KO Urshfu-R. (original phrasing was hard to understand. if it's an OHKOM say OHKO instead of KO)

* **Ice**: Tera Ice is a poor defensive type outside of the Iron Bundle matchup, but with Tera Blast, (AC) it's Rillaboom’s most powerful option for hitting Dragonite and Landorus-T.

* **Water**: Tera Water provides a balanced defensive profile, giving Rillaboom Ice- and Fire-type Ice and Fire resistances while maintaining its matchup into Urshifu-R.

Alternate EV Spreads
========

Implemented, thank you! Polished a few things based on your feedback, so let me know if anything else needs to change. Otherwise, this is ready for Dex!
