We tell literally every person who encounters an issue with the installed program to use browser instead in the Help Room, and (from the outside looking in) it doesn't appear to be getting regular updates compared to the actual site, meaning the program's bugs just kinda marinate. If the status quo for years has been to tell people to use the site instead anyway, is it really worth it to keep a link to download a program that not even the site's staff will recommend for you to use?
In theory, this won't hurt people who already have it installed any more than w/e they have already experienced, and it prevents new users from getting sucked into the vortex.
