Pyukumuku is incredibly passive and also shut down by Substitute users like Corviknight and Hydreigon as well as Taunt. Nonetheless, it still performs the role of an Unaware wall on bulkier teams, as it is capable of checking Tyranitar, Cinderace, and physical Aegislash sets. Its main selling points over Quagsire are its larger defensive stats and ability to poison practically any Pokemon upon using Soak, with Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Aegislash being prime targets. Protect holds its use in scouting powerful Choice-locked Pokemon like Dracovish and Dragapult to allow you to react accordingly while stalling out foes with poison from Toxic and gaining safe recovery from Leftovers.

Typically, Pyukumuku should be paired with other Pokemon on stall teams. Hippowdon is an easy fit, as it provides a vital Electric immunity to aid Pyukumuku while being a sound answer to Mold Breaker Excadrill, which bypasses Pyukumuku's Unaware. Corviknight and Mandibuzz both perform as entry hazard removal to open up safer opportunities for Pyukumuku to switch in. Clefable also has its uses as a cleric to cure Pyukumuku, as its passive nature often leaves it vulnerable to possible status.

Pyukumuku unfortunately lost Block in the fiasco of the Dex cuts. Without Block, Pyukumuku loses its largest niche in trapping opposing Pokemon and stalling them out. The notion of Block from team preview often caused players to play far more offensively, opting for pivots in front of Pyukumuku to avoid the risk of being trapped in and then being Toxic or PP stalled. Pyukumuku is now far more passive than it has ever been when Pokemon can easily avoid it through switching out. Pyukumuku is also shut down by Substitute users like Corviknight and Hydreigon and Taunt. Nonetheless, it still performs the role of an Unaware wall on bulkier teams. (mention a few Pokemon it can check) Its main selling point over Quagsire is its larger defensive stats and its ability to poison practically any Pokemon upon using Soak. (name some prime examples) Protect holds its use in scouting powerful choice locked Pokemon like Dracovish and Dragapult to allow you to react accordingly. (also mention how it's useful for stalling Toxic/Lefties)

Typically Pyukumuku should be paired with other Pokemon that have a home on Stall. Hippowdon is an easy fit as it provides a vital Electric immunity to aid Pyukumuku while being a sound answer to Mold Breaker Excadrill that bypasses Pyukumuku. Corviknight and Mandibuzz both perform as hazard removal for Pyukumuku to open up safer opportunities for it to switch in. Clefable also has its uses as a cleric to cure Pyukumuku as its passive nature often leaves it prone to possible status.
