Tournaments Rules and General Guidelines

General Team Tour Rules & Regulations

The General Manager of a team is essentially the boss of a team. The GM is the final word in all decisions (barring the hosts) regarding his team. The GM decides which players play on the team, who plays in what position, and even handles the team finances. Managers also make sure that the team keeps running on a day to day basis. If a team fails to complete their matches by the end of the allotted time, the onus is on the manager to inform the hosts as to what happened in order to make sure that proper activity calls are made.

Because of these responsibilities, The General Manager is probably the most important part of the team. As such, the position of GM is not one to be taken lightly.

• General Managers are not eligible to play in OUPL VII. You can either play or manage, not both.
• General Managers are chosen largely on a subjective opinion of the Tournament Directors as to who they believe would be fit for the position. Being fit for the position includes the knowledge of excellent battlers in the community (for fielding a competent team), having above average activity on the forums, Pokémon Showdown and/or Discord (in order to ensure that you don’t abandon your team), as well as possessing a necessary amount of “gravitas” (If you can’t make a player do what you tell them to, such as play an undesirable metagame, you’re not going to make a good manager).

General Managers are required to acquire one Assistant Manager. The Tournament Director team can veto the selection of an assistant manager, but will not require the General Manager to choose any particular user as their Assistant Manager. The assistant manager is essentially the second in command for the team. They have almost all of the functions and roles as the General Manager does, the GM just trumps him in head-to-head decisions.

Lastly, the General Manager has the following duties:

• They shall choose one Assistant Manager.
• They shall make the hosts aware of any player retentions by the time player signups close (48 hours prior to the start of the auction).
• They shall be present at the live auction, or appoint someone (preferably the Assistant Manager or a retained player if the AM is unavailable) to participate in the live auction in their stead.
• They shall send the hosts weekly rosters.
• They shall ensure to the best of his/her abilities that his/her battlers complete their matches on time.
• In the event that a match fails to be completed, they shall inform the hosts as to why the match failed to be completed, and what his/her battler did in order to finish the match.
• They shall communicate any grievances with the hosts.
All players must sign up if they wish to play in OUPL VII, even those who will eventually be retained to their past teams. It is important to note that OUPL VII is a 9 week event and that the activity level of a player is significant. Do not sign up to play for a team if you do not intend to see the tournament through to the end. This includes maintaining a competitive attitude if your team is already eliminated from playoff contention. You never know whether or not winning your end-season matches will make you a more valued player next season, so even if your team isn’t necessarily in the playoff picture anymore, there’s always value in playing your best. Failure to complete matches in a timely manner consistently may result in being barred from participating in future seasons.

The sign-up list will then be taken and sorted into appropriate lists for each of the tiers above. These lists will then be used by managers for the auction.
Total money for teams is 140,000 credits. There will be no holdover on extra credits from previous years - everyone starts with a blank slate and 140k.

In the weeks preceding the live auction, a time will be chosen by all of the General Managers to meet and perform a live auction in order to choose players. Managers will be expected to remain at the auction for the entire duration, which should take approximately 2-3 hours. If a General Manager cannot, for some reason, find any feasible time that he can attend a Live Auction, then the Assistant Manager will be called upon to fill in the spot. If no Manager can fill the spot for the Live Auction… then a new General Manager + Assistant Manager who can find time to make a live auction will be found to replace the old ones.

Once a time is set, all 10 managers + the hosts will enter the place where the auction will be held - likely the Showdown server. Spectators are allowed to join in to watch the fun unfold, but will not be able to speak. Discussion on the bidding at hand should be relegated to the OU room chatroom or any other appropriate chat outlet.

The hosts will first ask a team to nominate a player. The order by which teams will nominate players will go in a snaking pattern from the highest ranked team from last year to the lowest ranked team, then the lowest ranked team to the highest ranked team. The hosts will then tell the details of said player and bidding will commence, starting at 3000 credits, with the nominating team automatically placing the first bid. The auction will then be in real time. Managers will simply put in their bids in the chat, raising a minimum of 500 credits. If after 15 seconds there are no new bids, the player is sold to the highest bid in the channel. The hosts or utilized bot will provide a 5 second warning before bidding is closed on a player. The updated credit totals will then be posted and then the next manager in the rotation will be prompted to nominate a player.

Managers are advised that placed bids are final, and we will generally not permit an undo in the case of a mistake. Exceptions can be made in cases where a team nominates an incorrect player or if a typo in a bid amount would threaten the integrity of the team as a whole. Please make sure to double check your bids before sending them!

Managers are asked to please have a predetermined list of players you intend to nominate as well as potential bid caps, in order to make the process go as quickly and seamlessly as possible.

Managers: it is necessary for you to field a roster of 10 starters and a minimum of 4 substitutes, with a maximum of 10 substitutes being allowed of which all must be paid at least 3000 credits. This creates a soft cap of 101,000 credits on any particular bid - that is, the maximum amount of money you can spend on any one player and still have enough money left over to pay at least 3000 credits a piece on 13 more players.

Remember that there are midseason free agent pick-ups. It may be beneficial to save some credits in order to pick up players midseason, but remember that no new players will be allowed to sign up for the midseason draft.
It is at this time that the tournament will commence. The league stages consist of a Round Robin tournament. Every team will face every other team once through 9 weeks of play. Each manager will submit to the hosts a roster no later than the deadline of the previous week. This roster will list the starting players and what metagames they will play.

When the week starts, teams' players will face off in their respective metagames / tiers. The SV OU 1 from Team A will face the SV OU 1 from team B, SV OU 2 will face SV OU 2, and so on. Whichever team wins the most battles will be declared the victor for the week. Rather than score based on how many individual battles a team wins, the primary thing that matters is who beat the most teams. As such, points are awarded based only on wins and losses versus teams as a whole, not individual players. Beating a team in a week’s matchups is worth two points, tying with a team is worth one point, and losing is worth none, simple as that. At the end of the round robin, the top four teams in the points proceed to the playoffs and will be seeded into a knock-out style bracket where they will face off until only one team remains.

There are a few regulatory things during the league stages that need to be outlined.

1. Substitutes – At any point in time during the week, a team may make a substitution for a currently slotted player. In order to do this a manager must post in the thread, tagging the hosts, the opposing managers and the opposing player stating which player is substituting out, and which player is substituting in. A player that has substituted out for a week cannot be substituted back in. In addition, all substitutions are subject to veto by the hosts if the substitution is suspected to be attempting to “game” the system. Substituting in a player who is unavailable to play at any of the times the opposing team has previously offered in order to force a double substitution is not permitted and the player who was substituted in will be required to be substituted out.

2. There will be no trades allowed at any point during OUPL.

3. Activity decisions – There are inevitably times where two players simply fail to complete a match; however, the nature of the tournament system sometimes makes it advantageous to purposely fail to play (such as when a team is up 6-5 in a week). Because of this, it is necessary to make activity decisions on matches. Hosts are required to make thorough investigations regarding each and every potential failed match during a week. If both parties are deemed to be equally apathetic or enthusiastic about getting the match done, but just have not had the opportunity to make it happen, the match will result in a no contest. However, if it is deemed that one party made significantly more effort than the other in attempting to get the match done, then a win will be awarded to that player. Things that will make it very likely that you will lose via activity include: failing to VM your opponent immediately upon the week’s start, scheduling a match and being documented as missing the match time, failing to provide any concrete times for which you can be reached, failing to respond to an opponent’s VM at all. Please be certain to review the guidelines for a favorable judgement in an activity decision. Note that this is a tournament that requires a very high level of activity and diligence, if you don’t think you can get your matches done, quite simply don’t sign up.

4. Rule Breaking – There is no excuse for breaking any of the predetermined rules. If you are caught breaking a rule, you will lose your match. There is no lenience with regards to this. Break a rule, you lose. Period.

5. Reversing Rulings - No ruling will be retroactively overturned once the week following the week that the ruling has been made has ended. This includes: activity rulings / rulings based on rule breaking / anything else under the sun. I'm not going back in time to reevaluate every single decision I've made throughout the tournament on Week 9 because you think you were gypped 1-2 wins along the way and now they're the difference between you and a playoff spot. Any appeals to a ruling must be made during the week that the ruling is made; beyond that, all rulings are final once the week ends.

6. Recreations – Under some circumstances, generally due to a true disconnection, the host team may determine that a game must be recreated. Ideally, this recreation will take place immediately, but if the completion of the game needs to be rescheduled then a host or tournament director will recreate the game with the same players at a later time. Neither player may be substituted out for the recreation, but otherwise standard rules for activity decisions will apply.

7. Changes to Tiers (NEW) - Standard practice is that any changes to a tier that happen after a week is posted, e.g. suspect test or council bans, new Pokemon releases, or standard tiering shifts, will not go into effect until the following week. Any exceptions to this will be announced by the host in the administrative thread.
Sellbacks
Up until week 4 managers will have the opportunity to report players that they believe are not meeting minimum activity requirements and/or sabotaging their team to the hosts. The hosts will review the team situation on the first 2 days of Week 5, and if it is found that the player in question is indeed guilty of one or both, the team will be allowed to sell them back. Reports made on team quitters after the end of Week 4 will not be evaluated until the conclusion of the tournament, with the exception of cases of cheating or team leaking/sabotage. Players who are banned from the Smogon Forums for a duration longer than the rest of the tournament and players who are banned from tournaments for actions unrelated to Smogon Champions League will also be eligible for a sellback.

If a player is sold back, their team obtains 3k of their value as credits to be used in the midseason auction. The only exception to this is players who become eligible for sellback prior to when Week 1 is posted.

Teams who sell back players before the start of Week 1 will be reimbursed with credits equal to 1.5k+half of that player's retention cost or value in the auction. These credits may be used prior to the start of Week 1 on undrafted players who signed up, and players selected will be eligible to play starting in Week 1. Any of these credits that remain unused will be converted into sellback credits for use in the midseason auction.
At the end of the league stages, there will be a knockout style playoffs involving the top 4 teams in the points. In the event of a tie in overall points standings, the following criteria is used for breaking ties.
  • Overall Points >
  • Battle Difference (total # battles won - total # battles lost) >
  • Best of 3 - each team picks a unique tier with the winner of the Head to Head matchup picking second, then SV OU is the 3rd game. In the event that the two teams tied in the Head to Head matchup, the team with better results against the higher seeds will pick second.
  • Note: a Best of 3 series shall only be used to determine whether or not a team will qualify for playoffs. To just determine seeding among the top 4 teams, the result of the Head to Head matchup during regular season shall be used as the third tiebreak, with a B03 series being offered as a final alternative if teams are tied in every other element.
After the top 4 have been determined, each team will be seeded. The #1 seed will play the #4 seed, and the #2 seed will play the #3 seed. Teams will battle in the same format as during the league stage. At the end of all 10 battles, the team with more wins will advance to finals.

In the case of a tie in playoffs, the advancing team will be decided by a best of three - each team picks a unique tier with the higher seed picking second, then SV OU is the 3rd game.
The tournament will progress in this format until there is only one team left standing, the champion of OUPL VII.

This post marks the formal start to OUPL VII, which means:

Some players that I know that I think are worthy of being in, some of them are friends, while some of them are people I talk to regularly in the job of vomiting 1LDK propaganda, maybe in the back line or at the forefront, with support and trust, everything is possible

awyp man was top 8 in spring seasonal and got pretty far in autumn seasonal, has good prep, is the RMT leader, so he has seen a lot of stuff, he knows how to use pretty much everything, his team style can vary from real solid to real heat, and he has a cold head even when in stressed moments, from this list I can say he is the one with the most experience by a long shot, he is pretty much a veteran that deserves a shot. If there's one bad thing to say about him is that he is really unlucky, but if you can look past that, he is not gonna fail you

matte man has been scaling the food chain fast, he has the blessing of youth, which means he has the energy to train and rate, as a sub/helper, I think he is great, and he is not bad as a battler either, will rate teams and train. If there's one bad thing to say about him is that he is young, but properly trained young talent make any industry go round

Mister McLovin his special ability is creativity, his teams are fun to use, will catch people off guard while keeping it logical, he is currently in top 16 in the OU circuit, has been in team tours before as a helper/builder, and as a player he has experience. If there's one bad thing I can say about him is that he has no bad things, which is bad, I mean look at his profile picture, he is just too handsome

artifice. I don't talk to her at all, but from what she has told us + evidence, she almost made it to OLT playoffs, if that's not enough, she is skilled enough to make off meta picks with cool ideas. She has the stamina of laddering, which, can be real fucking hard sometimes. If there's something bad I can say is that she uses Iron MIDgulis smh

Longestbanana He is a player that came out of nowhere, knows how to make solid plays, has a bit of creativity in him, and he has experience in team tours as well, he is right now in the semi-finals of OU last chance, and he even beat me, so I'm pretty sure he will make it to the finals. As a negative, he underestimates the pre game shit (he thinks a 30-minute shit is crazy) massive L

zReptar this guy can do the unthinkable and create actual heat in gen 8, if that's not an instant pick, idk what it is. This of course implies that he likes gen 8 so that will repel the ladies, but the heat and building background is eternal

Srn he has a high level of skill that will help him get trough, and he has a high standard about team building, rating and creating, so he while he is not that creative, he will compensate with solid strategies and logical ways to win. Do not say anything about liking tera tho, or else he will literally unleash hell

There's a list of players that could use this opportunity to show their skills, so that you can trust them in the future, now, to finish this post, I want to talk a bit about myself in the context of what can I bring to the table

Normally I'm a guy that does meme teams and shit, but when times call for seriousness, I can create solid teams and I do know a lot of gen 9 right now, I'm not the best battler, but I'm not complete dogshit, with some support and bunny videos, ill do my best to support the team, because I really like helping

And yeah, that's it, I hope everyone has fun in this event, and even if I don't get drafted, you know I'll be covering it with 1LDK reports (or at least try)

thanks for all the interest in trying out, our open tryouts in NJNPs discord are now closed outside of a few exceptions that are going to be made. this does not mean you cannot dm me or njnp, you can still reach out with replays and what not! this just means that we will not be playing many more games.

additionally, if you have dm'd me and not have not gotten a response, don't worry it does not mean im ignoring you, I save all the dms i get for later review. I just have a ton of dms and its hard to reply to everybody!

With the auction gone, I'm sad I didn't get drafted, but at least most of the people I recommended did, and I hope the people I like / friends get a great season and show the world what they are capable of

As for me, I guess I'm stuck at being the news reporter, I hope I can find the time to cover all

Something interesting to me is that OU is obviously the most popular tier on this forum, but the SPL and SCL OU discussion threads are always barren and nobody really bothers to comment on them. This kinda leads me to believe that the average forum user doesn’t care at all or doesn’t feel confident enough to express themselves; either of which are expected and fine

I often skim through your weekly summaries to see if there’s anything notable that I missed (when I watch replays I skip through and ff often), and you clearly show that you have an understanding and passion for pokemon and OU

It sucks to not be drafted, but the day’ll come eventually, especially to those who care a ton and put in the work. Chin up and ty for the content

If you wanna catch as many games as possible, head over to the OU Discord, and go to the #reaction-roles channel, and react with this medal below to get the "OUPL Matches" role. We'll try and link games in the #tour-discussion channel, and anyone should be able to tag the role and link games. Let me know if you have any questions.

Not to randomly make this about me, but in my case, it definitely is more of the latter. When I saw 1LDK may not have time to do recaps, I considered trying something similar myself, but I just don't feel like I know enough to make any input I have be worth reading. I think that may be why threads like the metagame discussion get 15 one-liners an hour and tournament discussions barely fill a page the whole season; less experienced players feel intimidated by the spike in game quality. I've been actively back in the community for about a year now, and I still mostly lurk because I don't know how to articulate my thoughts and feelings about the metagame without it sounding like "dont banned sneasler". Growing as a player and community member is a long, tough process, so I really appreciate top players like you being encouraging and positive for those of us still on our way up.

I know I'm just a lurker, but I've seen you go from meme posts in the discussion thread to in-depth analyses of multiple games a week and so many RMTs that you got a badge. I'm envious of your mind for the game and hope I can follow your example.

Anyway, let's go Bamboos!

:dragapult::dragapult::dragapult:

Heya guys! Today i'll be analyzing/yapping about Mimikyu Stardust 's SV OU game for their B03 set for OUPL, versus pdt. I don't really comment much on tourney games, but because I help out the Royal Ribombee's (mimi's team) and helped build the OU team for the B03, I figured I could analyze this game pretty well.

I won't be dropping the paste for this team, because that will help the other team with scouting!! I ain't no snitch fr fr.

Game 1: SV OU

Looking back onto this week, we where sure that pdt would just bring something solid. Both of the players tended to play something pretty balanced, and because replays are down we weren't sure on what specific mons they would bring. In the end, I suggested using a pretty solid team made by velvet , with some mods by me. The offensive core was :choice-specs: + :enamorus: and :choice-band: +:dragapult:. Specs Enamorus is a great breaker in general, with its semi-fast speed tier being passible for a wall-breaker. Scald + Knock :walking-wake: was originally on the team, but I felt like the team overall was too weak to Ogerpon-Wellspring and had pretty bad speed control (350 was the fastest). Banded Pult ended up being the right choice here, as it gave speed control as well as being able to OHKO Ogerpon-Wellspring. On top of that, we have been seeing a rise in Offensive Tusk (252 Atk + 252 Speed) so being able to 2HKO/leave it at like 2% was also a big plus. The rest of the team was pretty standard, with Bulky Zapdos and Gambit, Offensive + Bulk Up Great Tusk, and Standard SpD pivot Glowking. Being weak to Heatran was a bit annoying, but being able to threaten it with massive damage from Earth Power and Tera Fighting Blast (From Pult) made me worry less.

Gameplay Analysis:

Team Preview:
This seems to be a pretty equal matchup. 2/3 of the team are the same for both sides, but instead of double choiced, pdt is running Specs + :dragapult: and CM + :enamorus:. This double SpA core threatens Slowking-Galar alot, so thats something I was worried about. Thankfully, Bulky Kingambit is able to blanket check Dragapult with proper prediction. Anyways, our main win condition is Band Dragaput, as its able to do big damage to the walls of pdt team. If our Pult hadn't been Banded, it would be much less useful (Ting-Lu eating its hits up then setting hazards up.)

Gameplay:

I will be talking in Mimi's prespective, so keep that in mind.

Turn one, pdt gets a pretty good lead. This team doesn't have any Spore immunity, so Mimi is forced to sac a mon to sleep. Slowking-Galar is the best thing to sac to sleep, as Enamorus and Dragapult both threaten it for big damage without Tera. Its defensive utility isn't really needed much (2 Dark types to ignore Future Sight + SpA attackers threaten it for massive damage). Next turn, both players switch with pdt going into Ting-Lu and Mimi going into Gambit. We weren't Low Kick as well as getting Kingambit getting chipped already will suck. Mimi goes into Enamorus on a Ruination, good play by pdt. Because we are Specs, we need to choose a move. Amoonguss is a pretty obvious switchin, but Mimi still goes for the safe play. A few turns pass, and pdt is able to get Rocks up, thanks to predicting the switch to Kingambit, going Tusk. Next turn we get a good Mystical Fire off on Amoonguss, going about 80%, so us being Specs is 100% clear. Ting-Lu comes in as Mimi doubles to Tusk, trying to get these Rocks off so Enamorus can come in. Mimi is hesitant to spin, predicting the Dragapult to come it. But Ting-Lu stays in, being able to get a massive 65% chip in two Ruinations. We trade Tusk for Tusk, Mimi's being bulk up and pdt's being Rocky Helmet (the reason why we Trade). pdt sends in Enamorus and we send in Dragapult. We go straight into Slowking-Galar, fearing Scarf Enam, but it reveals Calm Mind. We sac the Slowking-Galar to get in our Kingambit, but things look pretty bleak as we need to guess through Sub/Attack. pdt ends up using Tera on Enamorus, to get the 100% OHKO on Kingambit. Our Kingambit was bulky, so it had an 87.5% chance to live the Earth Power. But because the Tera, our Dragapult is able to revenge with Dragon Darts. This reveals our CB, as WispHex Pult would never do that much with Darts. pdt brings in Kingambit on turn 23. Mimi goes to Zapdos, and being max defensive are confident to live a +2 Black Glasses Kowtow and try to fish for Para. We end up getting lucky with Paras, but if that didn't happen, then Enamorus would have had a 87.5% chance to live the Sucker. I think we still could have won if the hax didn't happen but it did (sorry pdt). Mimi sacks Zapdos at turn 29 to Specs Dragapult. Our only choice is to risk the speed tie, but thanks to Tera Fighting, Pult won't die from a Draco. We burn our Tera on turn 30. pdt doesn't want to risk the speed tie, so they sac to Amoonguss. If we where SpA, Draco would have killed but we then had to switch out as we weren't doing shit to Ting-Lu. pdt switches in Ting-Lu, and we respond by going to Enamorus. The logic to this is if Pult gets chipped, we don't live the now neutral Shadow Ball from the opposing Specs Dragapult. pdt predicts the switch to Enamorus, and kills it off with a Shadow Ball. Now, the game comes down to a speed tie. If pdt's Dragapult goes first, we loose, as Ting-Lu lives the Dragon Darts (w no crits). If we win the tie, we can hope Dragapult gets some good rolls to kill Ting-Lu from this health. We win the speed tie on turn 33. Ting-Lu comes in vs our Dragapult at 100% HP, and we are able to get the 2HKO (not guaranteed) and win the game. Alot of luck came into this game, and fortunately we are able to win. gg to pdt, you played good.

I think Mimi played pretty good, with just some small errors. Like letting the Tusk get chipped down to 35% in two turns made us VERY weak to Kingambit, and Mimi getting the Mfire off on the Amoonguss earier could have got good chip on Ting-Lu or just killing Amoonguss. So Dragapult didn't need luck later. Also, I kinda hate to see Kingambit dying that quickly, but that was the only "good" play we had. If we went Zapdos on the Earth Power, Enam could setup on us more, and loosing Zapdos instead means that pdt's Kingambit had to be beaten by our own Gambit (not very consistent).

252 Atk Choice Band Dragapult Dragon Darts (2 hits) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Ting-Lu: 192-228 (37.3 - 44.3%) -- approx. 50.8% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
(Ting-Lu endgame Calc)

Thats all I have! Mimi ended up winning the set in 3 games, winning SV and SM. I know this match is one of many, and is not very important in the long run, outside of winning the week. I would try to analyze the other games, but i'm nowhere as good in those formats than SV. I'll post more analysis if you guys want, tell me what matches you want to see next! (that Mashing vs SupaGmoney match was pretty funny ;)

Go check out Mimikyu Stardust 's full set here! It was a bo3 of SV, SS and SM.

I forgot I can just post my suspect week reports in here instead of in the metagame thread. I like it better in here. For Week 3, the legal mon was Mr. Surging Strikes, Shifu Tha Beatdown, Urshifu-Rapid-Strike himself. Banned in the same vote as Volcarona right before World Cup, this is a neat preview into an OU meta that could either be reasonable or unbearable.

As always, my disclaimer is that this isn't the ladder or a full tournament with Urshifu legal. Everybody in the SV Suspect slot is hyper-aware of what mon is legal, and odds are they've built specifically thinking about it. It's also literally just eight people in four games so the sample size is small.

MAVERICK SHOOTERS vs. Leni: Both players bring Urshifu. In terms of anti-Urshifu tech, Mav has a Dragonite and a Zamazenta as well as a Ninetales-Alola, while Leni has a Dragapult (resists both STABs) and Zapdos (punishes Surging Strikes contact). Leni's Urshifu comes in against Mav's DD Dragonite, which promptly reveals Hurricane and obliterates Urshifu instantly. Later, Mav brings in Urshifu to revenge kill a 7% Kingambit: it eats two Sucker Punches, Trailblazes it twice, and cleans up Leni's remaining mons of Dragapult, Slowking-Galar (using Tera Poison to survive a Sludge Bomb), and Great Tusk.

Lily vs. Taka: Both players bring Urshifu. Notably, Lily has brought Zapdos and Dragapult: Taka has opted for Manaphy webs. Taka gets webs up, and the game progresses aggressively with both players saving their Urshifu until the end. On Turn 14, with 2 mons left, Taka's Urshifu comes in against a dead-to-rights Slowking-Galar: it Trailblazes to finish it off and gain the speed. Now faster than Lily's (Clear Body) Dragapult, Urshifu uses Tera Steel, taunts it, and prevents it from using Will-O-Wisp. It sets up an SD as Dragapult uses raw Hex for only 43%: the following Surging Strikes brings Dragapult down to 6% as it Hexes one more time before fainting. Luckily for Lily, it's done enough work that she can bring in her own Urshifu and revenge kill it with Aqua Jet, also taking out Taka's Iron Moth to secure the game.

Savouras vs. Maxouille: Both players have Urshifu. Maxouille has brought webs featuring Dragonite and Ogerpon-Wellspring, while Savouras has brought Thundurus-Therian, Cinderace, and Garchomp. Savouras leads Urshifu into Maxouille's Wellspring: it immediately U-Turns out as Maxouille switches into Ribombee and paralyzes Savouras's Slowking-Galar. After some more positioning, Maxouille and Savouras simultaneously go into Urshifu and Cinderace respectively. Cinderace U-Turns out into Garchomp as Urshifu uses Surging Strikes, revealing Punching Glove (or Protective Pads i guess, im not gonna calc it) as the item. Urshifu sets up a Swords Dance as Garchomp sets up rocks, then easily kills it with another Surging Strikes. Savouras scares it out with Thundurus, which naturally outspeeds. Maxouille's Urshifu retreats and Gholdengo is sacrificed to bring out Ogerpon, but Savouras crits a Volt Switch as he goes into his own Urshifu. It U-Turns out once again as Maxouille throws Ribombee into it again: Savouras brings out Slowking-Galar. Maxouille goes into their own Urshifu as Slowking sets up Future Sight: they click Surging Strikes as Savouras goes into his own Urshifu, dealing 36%. Maxouille sacrifices Wellspring to a U-Turn in order to dodge Future Sight on Urshifu. As Savouras brings out Glowking, Maxouille gets up Sticky Web and then gets Urshifu in for free as Glowking gets full paralyzed. Glowking takes a Surging Strikes to the face and survives with 25%, then Sludge Bombs back dealing 61%. Savouras then throws Thundurus into a Surging Strikes, killing it instantly and allowing him to bring out Cinderace, who Pyro Balls to finish it off. Maxouille's remaining wincons of Iron Moth and Tera Blast Flying Dragonite go down to the combined might of Savouras's Glowking and Fairy Gholdengo.

HYpertonix vs. mimilimi: Both players have Urshifu. HYper has brought Zapdos, Rillaboom, Cinderace, and Sinistcha, while mimilimi has webs and a Manaphy. mimilimi gets up webs, then eventually lets Ribombee die to Ting-Lu so that Urshifu can come in. It Swords Dances as HYper goes hard into Sinistcha, but Sinistcha lives the Ice Punch with 18% and kills back with Matcha Gotcha, healing back to 68%. The game continues, and HYper switches the webs onto mimilimi's side. HYper's Urshifu briefly comes out as mimilimi switches into Dragapult: both players switch out. After HYper's Ting-Lu Whirlwinds in Kingambit and gets up rocks, it promptly dies, prompting HYper to bring in Urshifu. It outduels Kingambit as both go for attacks, ending the encounter with 27% left. Urshifu is promptly scared out by mimilimi's Dragapult. In the endgame, mimilimi attempts to set up Take Heart/Stored Power Tera Poison Manaphy, but HYper reveals Tera Steel Urshifu, making it tickle. Manaphy is able to kill it with Scald, but it's been damaged enough for HYper's Rillaboom to clean up mimilimi's remaining mons as it survives a Draco Meteor.

Overall, Urshifu seems to be pretty good. Trailblaze sets seem to have great snowball potential, turning it into some kind of Mega Quaquaval. Punching Glove allows it to circumvent the classic contact-punishers in Zapdos and Garchomp, but with an additional bit of punch to it as well. It presented a threat in...well, most games, besides when it took a Hurricane to the face and died instantly.

This week we've got more Urshifu action lined up. Last time, Darkrai's usage went from 6/8 in week 1 to 2/8 in week 2: it remains to be seen if this trend will continue.

Got busy with finals but I have an abridged Urshifu Report for week 4. As usual, typical disclaimers, it's 8 people in a tour and they all know Urshifu is around, etc, etc.

We see a slightly similar trend to with Darkrai, where 5/8 players brought it. Again, this is a tiny sample size, but I do think this is indicative of a format-specific trend: week 1 most people bring the featured mon and find out the counterplay, week 2 more people are hesitant to bring it into said counterplay.

Lily vs. Inder: Two Urshifu. Lily brings Floatzel rain. Inder's Urshifu comes in to revenge kill Lily's Floatzel: it barely survives a Wave Crash, and finishes it off with Surging Strikes. This is followed by Lily's own Urshifu coming in and outspeeding with its own Surging Strikes. Lily's Urshifu switches out as Inder brings in Enamorus-T, who later Tera Steels, giving Urshifu a chance to come back in. Under threat of a Close Combat, Inder goes into Landorus-T and deals more damage with Rocky Helmet than Urshifu does with CC. This forces Urshifu out (note: we find out later that Lily's Urshifu is Scarfed). This last interaction repeats itself a few turns later, but this time Lily Surging Strikes into Landorus-T and kills it, then has to escape to Amoonguss as Inder's Dragapult comes out. Dragapult kills Amoonguss, allowing Urshifu to come back in, but Scarf Ice Spinner only does 80% and Dragapult secures the win with Draco Meteor.

Fogbound Lake vs. HYpertonix: Fogbound Lake brings Urshifu, while HYpertonix has a Tauros-Water, which resists Surging Strikes and can use Anger Point. HYper's Glimmora notably dies without getting up any hazards, and Fogbound is able to Will-O-Wisp burn and eliminate the Tauros before it can face down Urshifu. Fogbound's Urshifu actually doesn't come out as he wins with 3 left.

Batzi (JamalIG) vs. Savouras: Savouras has Urshifu and a Toxapex, while Batzi has Ogerpon-Wellspring, Zapdos, and Garchomp. Turn 1, Savouras safely U-Turns on the switch and gets his Urshifu in on Batzi's Garchomp. Surging Strikes confirms Punching Glove as it deals 55%, followed by being Dragon Tailed out: unfortunately, Batzi pulls Dragapult, who immediately nukes Garchomp. Batzi uses Tera on Ogerpon, which allows for a kill on Dragapult but removes Water Absorb. Later, when Savouras brings in Urshifu to avenge Dragapult, Batzi sacrifices Ogerpon to a Surging Strikes before bringing out Zapdos, who scares it out. Savouras switches Urshifu hard into a Garganacl Body Press, and is just barely unable to kill with Surging Strikes before taking a Salt Cure to the face and being left critically injured. Garganacl does a ton of work and helps whittle Savouras down to just Urshifu, who can finally kill it, but Batzi's Zapdos easily eats and finishes the game with Volt Switch.

Taka vs. Storm Zone (relic stone): Taka has some kind of Urshifu, Zamazenta, Ogerpon-Cornerstone hyper offense, while Storm Zone has brought Ogerpon-Wellspring, Weezing-Galar, Moltres, and Landorus. Storm Zone gets out to an early lead despite his Wellspring falling to critical health. Down 2-3 (but one of the 2 is a paralyzed Zamazenta), Taka brings in Urshifu to kill Storm Zone's Kingambit. Urshifu Bulks Up on a Tera Fairy Tera Blast, which deals 70%: as Storm Zone switches out to Weezing-Galar, Urshifu Bulks Up again. Urshifu then Taunts into a Strange Steam, which does nothing but confuses it. It breaks through confusion, but the Rocky Helmet on Weezing kills it before Surging Strikes can kill. Weezing then finishes off Zamazenta to end the game.

These next two weeks will be the final suspect weeks, featuring Annihilape, before the slot is converted into a standard 5th SV. I get the idea there's not going to be a lot of U-Turn.
