Started building this team on the premise that everybody else decided they would rather use Mega-Salamence. While looking at pokemon for another team, I came across Mega-Metagross and found that it's base stats were utterly ridiculous. This is the result of trying out a team built around it.
It is currently at 1400 on the ladder, testing not finished since PS ladder has been very glitchy the past few days.
Metagross-Mega @ Metagrossite
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Zen Headbutt
- Ice Punch
- Meteor Mash
The Mega that I decided to base this team off of which I’m not really sure why not more people are using besides the mega-mence hype. Every base stat over 100 besides HP and an attack stat that most pokemon only dream of. Every move here is fairly self-explanatory besides Ice-Punch which is run over Grass Knot in order to check Mega-Salamence and other dragons. SpAtk is also not as high as Atk.
Conkeldurr @ Assault Vest
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 232 SpD / 24 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Mach Punch
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Poison Jab
With the ever growing popularity of Greninja thanks to its acquisition of Gunk Shot in ORAS, Conkeldurr was a good choice to deal with it, Mach Punch allowing a clean OHKO after SR and Life Orb damage and otherwise beating it outright with Knock Off after a Protean switch to Extrasensory and Mach Punch otherwise. In addition, Poison Jab allows it to beat Sylveon and Clefable, Pokemon that would otherwise crush Conkeldurr.
Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell
Initially this was meant to be a Vaporeon, after thinking about it however, Clefable seemed to be a perfect answer to Mega-Sableye who otherwise outright walls this team. Heal Bell along with Conkeldurr being able to eat up status effects, prevents this team from being as vulnerable to status as it would have been. Protect and Wish compliments the bulky nature of Thundurus and Conkeldurr, allowing them to be recovered and used over and over again.
Excadrill @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin
Formerly a Latias on this team, Excadrill lent itself to being a better choice for several reasons. First of all, Rock Slide would be much more reliable than an unboosted uninvested TTar Stone Edge. That said, the sand that is set up by TTar brings out Excadrill’s ability to utilize Sand Rush, something that most other Excadrill’s forgo in favor of Mold Breaker.
Thundurus @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 212 HP / 104 Def / 52 SpA / 92 SpD / 48 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Taunt
- Thunder Wave
Thundurus is an answer to many of the stall-tanks that flood today’s meta. Taunt allows it to prevent being stalled by residual damage and also allows to prevent others from setting up if predicted correctly as a lead or a switch-in. T-bolt and HP Ice giving pseudo-boltbeam coverage, It also provides a good amount needed special damage to the team.
Tyranitar @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Crunch
- Ice Beam
- Stone Edge
After spending no small amount of time looking for a reliable setter of Stealth Rocks, Tyranitar finally came. Setting up Sandstorm for Excadrill as well as being an amazing soak for Special Attacks, TTar’s offensive prowess is no longer it’s main selling point. That doesn’t however, prevent me from placing Ice Beam and Stone Edge on him. Crunch being the ever present STAB move of choice.
Team Gripes
-Lack of Special Damage, overly dependent on Thundurus-T and Clefable to do well.
-Lacking a good set of Status effects. Only T-Wave on Thundurus.
