the big bad booty daddy Cased himself wins this round with team 4, congratulations.

Next round:

The Ernie to Sawk's Bert, although Throh's recent viability is directly tied with Sawk's departure from the tier, it has a few niches in being better suited to running bulk up sets more comfortably + being a pretty decent phaser with Circle Throw. As far as actual sets go, Choice Band 4 attacks, Sp def rest talk, and 3 attacks bulk up are viable options. I'm sure there's other sets I missed but this is a relatively unexplored pokemon in the metagame so seeing what kind of teams it functions best on would be great. Post teams in here before Friday night like always

This bulky team is designed around making use of circle throw's great shifting power, and munchlax's amazing eviolite bulk. With omastar seting up hazards, Throh's circle throw will cause a low of damage to enemy pokemon, even those that resist fighting as they are forced into taking stealth rock damage, and its access to guts makes status practically useless. Munchlax's insane bulk thanks to eviolite causes another set up poke that is near impossible to kill once it sets up. Since Munchlax is going to be spending a lot of time sleeping, I decided to give it facade, as it doubles in power when Munchlax is asleep, and also has stab.Thanks to Munchlax's bulk, many pokemon teams are going to have to rely on status to attempt taking down Throh and Munchlax making their overall power much greater than they would be otherwise. Munchlax also helps support Gourgeist with its ability thick fat. The remaining pokemon are all made to support Throh and Munchlax. As you may have noticed Throh and Munchlax will have trouble with all kinds of ghosties, so skuntank is here for amazing pursuit traps, taking down enemy ghost types that cause throh and munchlax issues. Thanks to gourgeist being here, the only feasible way for an opponent to get rid of Omastars hazards is defog, which also clears out any hazards on our side of the field so there is in fact a form of hazard control :). Gourgeist's immense physical bulk provides support for both Throh and Munchlax s well. Omastar has access to ancient power if xatu becomes an issue, preventing our hazards from working. Rotom fan supports Throh and gourgeist's flying weakness, as well as provides momentum for the rest of the team, getting the appropriate pokemon into a favorable position, as well as outspeeding threats such as archeops, tauros, and sceptile, although Gourgeist kinda handles physical threats such as tauros.... eh. Sorry for the text brick, btw. Also one more thing... if in the case that you are unable to get rid of enemy ghost types, since our sweepers have rest, we essentially have gained 48 more pp thanks to rest taking 3 turns. This team likes to take things slow, so relax a bit when playing. :)

This is a pretty standard spike stack team built around Bulk Up Throh. Once a couple layers of spikes are up, Throh can just start shuffling the opponent's team until they drop. Ferroseed is a great partner, setting up rocks, and providing a water + normal resist to the team, whilst also scouting choice locked mons with protect. Garb completes the hazard stacking core, whilst also giving the team a good fighting resist, as well as some additional chip damage, which quickly adds up with rocks and spikes up. I decided to put Focus Blast on Garb, since opposing Ferroseeds can be extremely annoying to face. Next, no spike-stacking team is complete without kangaskhan. The dual priority it provides is really helpful in checking the faster stuff in the tier, as the team is pretty slow. Then, I went with rotom for a reliable spin blocker, that can also check the most common defoggers of the tier, namely Pelipper and Mantine, whilst being able to status things that are immune to T-spikes. Signal Beam also means that I dont auto-lose to Malamar. In the last slot, I decided I needed a wallbreaker that wasn't weak to Fire, so I went with Samurott. Special Otter has very few safe switch ins, most of which lack reliable recovery, which is why it works so nicely on fat spike-stacking teams. Overall, it's a pretty standard but solid team. A lack of hazard control sucks, but its not too hindering, considering nothing on the team is extremely weak to rocks.

Team 3 has unsurprisingly won this round. here are your next subjects;
+

standard fire-water core, ninetales niche in nasty plot is pretty savage and it has the coverage to muscle past common fire checks. Lanturn can help pivot Ninetales in on a switch and can cripple checks with status moves like thunder wave and toxic.
post teams until Friday night

Banned deucer.

Ah, Ninetales,underrated threat that rips balance after 1 Nasty plot,its spdef stat allows it to take few hits before it dies and its a classic Gen1 awesome looking Pokemon.I dont really know why people dont use it that often,actually you dont see it in ladder at all, probably because it hides in depths of PU,but it definitely deserves more attention.Its Sp.attack isnt the best before boost, but its coverage is what allows it to sweep after a boost, passing through usual fire resists like Hariyama/Rhydon and weakening water types with it.I posted this team on Bazaar during Sawk suspect test, but it works even better now that Sawk is gone,Weezing and Xatu together not fearing the strong coverage moves and Xatu not needing to run fast set and instead can invest fully in bulk.
  • Now,Sceptile was amazing partner in general because it just destroys any ground pokemon right away in game, outspeeds whole tier and its coverage moves allows it to hit so many stuff and weaken them to the point when they cant switch in anymore,which is why Ninetales just passes through your opponent mid game.
  • Lanturn set was Assault Vest in beggining, but i found that standard defensive set + Thunder wave fits a lot more because AV offensive set wasnt doing the best job,it has good coverage but it wont KO anything,and crippling things like Sceptile with Thunder wave is just better.
  • Xatu was next to give me better matchup against defensive teams/possible stall teams and just in general because my core didnt appreciate getting statused even if Lanturn has heal bell, or slowly get weakened by hazards, it gives me another win condition and its just great pokemon overall.
  • Steelix is one of standard stuff ill use in many balanced teams because it just patches the normal/flying/rock weakness, sets rocks,gives me another psychic check and has passive recovery.
  • Last pokemon I really like nowadays is Weezing,many people dont run pain split on it but id definitely run pain split one or no Weezing at all.My grass check,another ground immunity,fighting resist, Taunt gives me better matchup vs slow bulky teams, 108 speed Evs allows me to beat Malamar,Pain split to have decent recovery since Weezing HP isnt high.
  • Overall,standard looking team,I wouldnt change too much rn because i dont see many issues with it, when I first posted it , i still had minor issues with Lanturn being wore down with assault vest set, Sceptile didnt have EQ because after Charizard got into tier i didnt even consider having rock slide/EQ on same set which really hurted Sceptile matchup vs Skuntank/Garbodor/Muk and Fires, but with these changes I think team is a lot more solid.

Basically a fun fire spam team that is meant to weaken fire checks for either Ninetales/Shiftry/Rotom-Fan to sweep or clean late game.
Ninetales tears through a lot of common fire resists with + 2 Psyshock or Energy ball and Mixed Heatmor also aids Ninetales by 2hkoing Yama with Low Kick, knocking off AV's and Eviolites (looking at you Sligoo) and also hitting fire resists decently hard with Giga drain. Lanturn provides a switch-in to waters and can trap annoying Lanturns with Whirlpool. SHiftry appreciates Yama being weakened , rounds out the FWG core, provides nice priority and Defog. Mespirit provides a necessary Fight resist,rocks, volt turn support with Lanturn and Healing wish is always nice with these kinds of offensive teams. Finally Scarfed Rotom-Fan provides a decent Sceptile check, Steelix switchin which this team has trouble switching into and also a way to cripple Skuntanks/Lanturns or any troublesome mon with Will-O/Trick since Skunk was a huge threat. Also gives team more Volt-Turn synergy and gives the team more speed. Just want a shot at Fire Spam and you have to play very aggressive with this Hyper offensive team.
