With great natural bulk along with Prism Armor and high Attack, Necrozma is a potent and consistent setup sweeper. Dragon Dance is Necrozma’s primary form of setup, boosting its offensive presence immensely and outspeeding faster threats after one Dragon Dance, like Rayquaza and . Sunsteel Strike is Necrozma’s strongest attack, breaking through walls like Clefable and Tapu Fini, as well as threatening to OHKO offensive Pokemon like Tapu Lele and Arctozolt. Earthquake covers Steel-types like Heatran and opposing Necrozma Dusk-Mane and Electric-types that resist Sunsteel Strike like Zekrom and Dracozolt. Stone Edge is necessary coverage to break past Fire-types Ho-Oh and Rotom-H, who easily switch into Necrozma’s other moves. Photon Geyser is a strong STAB move that can also be run to catch Water-types like Rotom-Wash and Quagsire, who normally consistently check Necrozma otherwise. Weakness Policy pairs extremely well with Prism Armor, allowing it to activate with little drawback, as well as taking advantage of the plethora of Knock Off in the metagame. The EV spread allows Necrozma to deal as much damage as possible with Adamant nature, as Dragon Dance raises its Speed.

Necrozma fits best on hyper offensive teams that apply consistent pressure to allow Nerozma to sweep. Sticky Web setters like Shuckle and Araquanid make it much easier for Necrozma to outspeed faster Pokemon and become a harder threat to revenge-kill. Magnezone is a great partner to trap Necrozma’s Steel-type checks like Skarmory and Corviknight, as well as pressuring bulky Water-types like Rotom-W and Tapu Fini. Necrozma struggles to break Ground-types like Landorus-T and Hippowdon immediately, so Pokemon like Crawdaunt and Weavile help threaten them.

Necrozma’s access to powerful setup and boasting high Attack allows it to be a fearsome wallbreaker and still provide a good defensive role due to its natural bulk. The EV spread outspeeds all Calyrex-I as well as paralyzed Pheromosa and its Speed inheritors.

=============

A specially-defensive set with an EV spread of 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Ground-types**: Ground-types with high physical bulk like Landorus-T and Hippowdon easily switch into Necrozma’s attacks and threaten it with Earthquake. However, Toxic can cripple them and reduce their longevity.

**Water-types**: Bulky Water-type Pokemon like Rotom-W and Quagsire resist Sunsteel Strike and aren’t threatened by Necrozma’s coverage, but Photon Geyser on its Dragon Dance set can threaten them by ignoring Levitate and Unaware. Offensive Water-types like Crawdaunt and Araquanid can brute-force through defensive Necrozma while also being able to switch into Sunsteel Strike and its coverage.

**Steel-types**: Common Steel-type physical walls in Skarmory, Corviknight, and opposing Necrozma Dusk-Mane can consistently switch into Necrozma’s attacks and recover it off. Iron Defense allows Skarmory and Corviknight to completely wall setup Necrozma, but defensive Necrozma-Dusk Mane will fall to Dragon Dance Necrozma.

**Strong Setup**: Pokemon like Rayquaza, Garchomp, and Crawdaunt carry strong moves that threaten to OHKO Necrozma once
