[New Ability]

Screen Cleaner -
When the Pokemon enters a battle, the effects of Light Screen, Reflect, and Aurora Veil are nullified for both opposing and ally Pokemon.

Screen Cleaner does not affect Safeguard. - Research Post

Remember, Screen Cleaner will wipe away your own screens too - don't use it if you're going to use Mr. Rime on a screens team.

[Pros]

- Great boosting moves and reliable recovery.
- Solid coverage options.
- Decent Special bulk, good Special Attack.
- Diverse utility options.

[Cons]

- Low Speed and extremely poor defensive typing means Mr. Rime will have a hard time getting a move off against offensive teams. A weakness to all entry hazards further contributes to Mr. Rime's difficulty in coming into battle.
- Will likely be outclassed as a Stored Power user by Reuniclus.
- Good physical options are left unusable by a weak Attack stat and an inability to boost Attack.

Overall, Mr. Rime looks like a Pokemon that will struggle to have any justifiable use in OU, but may be fun in lower tiers and draft leagues due to its large assortment of utility. It's something that you could make work on a team, but you'd likely have to go far out of your way to do so.

[Dynamaxing Potential]

- Max Mindstorm can aid Mr. Rime in wallbreaking by setting up Psychic Terrain.
- Max Hailstorm can trigger Ice Body for Mr. Rime, giving it a few turns of extra recovery.

[Potential Movesets]

Because of its utility being held back by poor Speed matched with an exploitable typing, Mr. Rime seems like a Pokemon that will have to rely on gimmicks to see any use. With that in mind, here's a bunch to play around with:

Blunder Policy
Mr. Rime @ Blunder Policy
Ability: Screen Cleaner / Ice Body
EVs: 72 HP / 252 SpA / 184 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hypnosis
- Nasty Plot
- Freeze-Dry
- Focus Blast

For something like this, you'd might be better off using Gengar. However, Mr. Rime should have enough natural bulk to be able to take a special hit on the lost turn if Blunder goes off. Other than that, this set can be used for disruption and potentially wallbreaking against slower teams. For reference, Blunder Policy doubles Speed when a move is missed. Adjust the Speed investment to hit relevant benchmarks when the Speed Tiers resource is available. For now, the set outspeeds max Speed neutral Tyranitar before Blunder Policy. With Nasty Plot, there is the potential for taking investment out of Special Attack and reinforcing defenses, but currently running max Modest to account for the low base power of Freeze-Dry and the need to compress coverage into two slots.

Discount Reuniclus
Mr. Rime @ Leftovers / Weakness Policy
Ability: Ice Body
EVs: 248 HP / 84 Def / 176 SpD
Calm Nature
- Slack Off
- Iron Defense
- Calm Mind
- Stored Power

Reliable recovery enables this set. The EV's are very flexible -- they're currently set up to be able to take Iron Head / Gyro Ball from Adamant Excadrill and Aegislash at +2 with Leftovers while leaving the majority of investment in the more slowly-boosting defensive stat. However, because of Mr. Rime's numerous weaknesses, a Weakness Policy could come in handy to give Stored Power a jump start - using this item would likely require tweaking the EV's to lean a bit more towards the physical side and would probably warrant Aurora Veil to get some turns of Ice Body and protection -- if you're using this set over Reuniclus, just go all in on committing to the gimmick. There's no point in splashing this set on a team.

Calm Mind
Mr. Rime @ Leftovers
Ability: Ice Body
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Slack Off
- Calm Mind
- Freeze-Dry
- Focus Blast

Mr. Rime can try to run a set like this to try to take advantage of some unique coverage, but it will be held back by its exploitable typing letting it be broken through on its unimpressive physical side by most relevant attackers in OU.

Full Wipe
Mr. Rime @ Heavy Duty Boots
Ability: Screen Cleaner
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Freeze-Dry
- Psyshock / Psychic
- Focus Blast

Potentially a full reset for a whack HO team, taking advantage of Rapid Spin's new +1 Speed effect to clear hazards and screens while forcing in either a Choice Scarfer to check what it locks into to exploit, a defensive answer to chip away at and let a teammate get in against, or a naturally very fast Pokemon that can be exploited. Defensive investment can be tuned here to guarantee Mr. Rime lives certain hits from full against team-specific threats. This set will likely be outclassed by Excadrill unless screens become very popular.

I feel Heavy Duty Boots and Slack Off give Mr Rime a little more freedom to be a spinner for teams. A lot of Pokemon lack [good] recovery or a method to remove hazards - off the top of my head it's mostly Mandibuzz, Noivern, and Corviknight. Weezing-Galar needs to rely on Pain Split for example, and some like Sirfetch'd lack any recovery method outside of Rest.

Another thing that's nice about Dynamaxing Mr Rime is setting up Hail, which can aid with sets that have Ice Body. This gives Mr Rime some extra recovery while being pretty powerful after a Nasty Plot / Calm Mind.

Hehe...I actually taught a Mime Jr. Toxic on my Ultra Sun game. Wonder how people will react once I transfer it over, evolve it, and they see this on my Mr. Rime?

Well i guess it might surprise some of the newer players on BS but aside from that you probably better off trying to run defensive sets on Eviolite G. Mr Mime... except that both of them have shitty defensive typing and there are better options for defensive mons like Mew for example.

I really like that full wipe set. That’s probably the best one in my opinion, since every other set on it is to some degree outclassed by something in the role it’s trying to accomplish. Obviously it’s only useful if your opponent is running a team with both screens and hazards, so usually you’re better off just running another spinner overall, but having this Pokémon as an emergency single-turn reset button for the most dire scenarios is very promising, especially since Rime isn’t deadweight once it spins due to being a Pokémon more than capable of taking advantage of the +1 speed. Probably not OU, but something worth considering splashing on an HO team.

this one should have gotten Court Change too actually, because taking the screens, hazards to your side is better then erasing them depending on chosen strategy... Hope it gets Court Change next game. Regular Kantonian Mr Mime would love that too.

Fake out, light screen, Baton pass, drain punch, can feel different roles.
A surprise attacker during hail with ice body?

Weird that it didnt get Disable what would help with a combo to After You, Block and Encore.

Screen Cleaner actually removes screens from BOTH SIDES of the field so Court Change is kinda pointless at least in terms of screen stealing not sure whether that or Rapid Spin is more useful in terms of hazard control. I suppose Court Change might be more useful if you go with Ice Body (or use regular Mr.Mime).

thats what I ment. Weird to create a ability to clean only screens... could have done more actually. Like removing protects? did someone checked if it enters battle and oponent uses protect based move if it will work?

That could only be useful in doubles which is not relevant here.

I have struggled to get this thing to do work in OU, it might have a role in UU when the tier gets figured out? It's just hard to give mr. Rime any type of initiative to do anything of value. One of its biggest deterrents is excadrill, along with the fact that even if you get off a spin and get a boost in speed, you're frail and outsped by almost every scarfer. Even dragapult outpaces it without a scarf. Any role this thing can fill is outclassed by something and it's kind of a bummer, because I was more hype for this than a lot of other mons.

I looked at Mr. Rime's Special Defense and I thought it would make a good Assault Vest user while supporting the team.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Mr. Rime @ Assault Vest
Ability: Screen Cleaner
EVs: 252 HP/252 Sp. Atk/4 Spe
Modest Nature
Freeze-Dry
Psychic
Focus Blast/Shadow Ball
Rapid Spin

This set focuses on Mr. Rime being a specially bulky sweeper while providing Rapid Spin support. With Rapid Spin,, it speeds up the Pokemon's tap dancing so it can out-speed more opponents and possibly gain a priority over +1 Speed ones. I'm surprised that Mr. Rime can OHKO Gyarados with a Freeze-Dry.

The third option could either be Focus Blast or Shadow Ball. Focus Blast is for dealing with the likes of Obstagoon, Abomasnow and even Ferrothorn when the time is right while Shadow Ball deals with Mimikyus, special-attacking Aegislashs, Polteageists and opposing Psychic types.

What do you think? Is the Pokemon a good Assault Vest user?

You might as well just use Eviolite Galarian Mr. Mime instead. It's bulkier and faster. The thing that gives Mr. Rime an edge over Mime is the fact that it gets Slack Off, but Assault Vest takes that away.
