Ruleset

Victory:

• The first team to achieve 300,000 bounty by the end of a given week is the winner
• If two teams manage to achieve 300,000 bounty by the end of the same week, the team that exceeds by a higher margin is the winner
• If no team achieves 300,000 bounty by the end of Week 7, the team with the highest bounty upon the conclusion of Week 7 is the winner

Team Formation:

• Teams will be formed though a snake draft
• Draft order is randomly assigned

Bounty:

• Bounty is held by each player and a team’s bounty is equal to the sum of all its player’s bounties
• A player’s initial bounty is determined by draft position
• All captains have an initial bounty of 20,000

Team & Player Quantities:

• There will be exactly six (6) teams
• Each team will have exactly nine (9) players
• The total number of initial players will therefore be fifty-four (54)

Tier Support & Registration

• Only strict generation tiers will be supported. This means no special tiers such as Best of Three Smogon Tour, etc.
• All battles will be best of one
• At signup, players will register for exactly three (3) of the supported tiers
• Captains may not submit lineups with more than three (3) players in a given tier per week
• Players may freely change tiers every week, but may only play tiers that they registered for at signup
• Tiers that receive less than two (2) matchups in a given week will be declared dead and will be removed for the remainder of the tournament. All remaining players registered in a tier that is declared dead will swap their registration for one of the remaining tiers.

Benching:

• A team may bench no more than one (1) player per week
• A player may not be benched for consecutive weeks
• Activity losses are treated the same as normal losses
• Players in a "dead game" will not lose bounty, but will lose a life. A player killed by a dead game will have their bounty split between the highest valued players that are not on their team.

Matchups:

• Weekly matchups are determined by a player’s bounty at the start of the week
• Players in a given tier are sorted by bounty and matched against their closest neighbor from top to bottom
• Two or more players with equally close neighbors will be randomly determined
• In the event that an odd number of players register for a tier, the lowest bounty player will be required to select another tier in which they are registered. If no alternate tier with an odd number of entrants is available, said player must be benched that week

Assassin Status:

• Assassin Status can only be gained upon a fourth win and a sixth win, and is effective the following week
• A player with Assassin Status may challenge any player within the tier they selected
• In an Assassin Status matchup, the loser is automatically eliminated from the tournament
• This status is optional and does not have to be taken advantage of by the potential assassin

Bounty Transfer and Player Lives:

• The winning player takes 50% of their opponent’s bounty
• Bounty will not be split into denominations lower than 500, rounded up
• The minimum bounty transaction is 1,000
• Players start with three (3) lives
• A life is lost for every game a player loses
• Players that lose their third life are eliminated for the remainder of the tournament
• When a player eliminates another player, they receive 100% of their remaining bounty

Trades and Administration:

• Trades will not be supported under any circumstances
• Captains may replace those designated as "team cancer" prior to the posting of Week 1 with any player remaining from the draft pool
• These replaced players will be set at the same initial bounty as the removed "team cancer"

This list is not completely exhaustive of every edge case scenario possible - we're trying to keep it readable. Contact the hosts with any further questions.

Regarding Activity Cases

Most Wanted has higher activity standards than most tours, but these will come up eventually. Here's how they will be handled:

Activity Loss = actual loss. The player on the bad side of the activity case will lose 50% of their bounty to their opponent and a life, just like if they lost the game. The activity winner still gets a win towards assassin status.

Dead Game = "stalemate". Both players will not lose bounty, but they will lose a life. This is to disincentivize proposing dead games and stalemates later in the tournament when losing becomes much more risky for the players. We want you to play your opponents, not the tournament format.

We could take a dead game as an effective bench and therefore no penalty, but the 1 bench spot on teams isnt always under equal circumstances. A forced bench due to odd pool numbers is possible. Since dead game would mean "both parties made equal effort to play", it would be unfair if a dead game came to be and only one player took a bounty hit because their team had the bench spot filled that week while the other team did not and a player effectively gets away with it. So we're going with losing a life but no bounty loss to disincentivize looking for stalemates and make teams want to push for valid activity cases at worst.

tl;dr play the games.

Public Games

Following typical team tournament standards, all Most Wanted games must be public - this includes replays which must also be saved to consider the match result valid. If there's no public replay evidence of the game (either replay searchable or posted with your win) we will ask that you replay the game.

If you don't want to be at risk of nullified match results, play on Smogtours. You (and your opponents) are always at liberty to push for games to be played on Smogtours as it is the default server when there are disagreements.

I figured this was clear but since we've had some silly stuff going on with PS main, alts, and hidden rooms already it needs reminding and will be stressed in the future week OPs. Its a community tournament. Relax with the sneaky tactics.

Week 1 Calls

Alkione vs DracoMaster Dab

This series had a scheduled time for today but Alkione reported that he fell sick and went to bed right before the scheduled time. Unsurprisingly the game wasn't played and Alkione didn't appear again to play before the deadline. get well soon.

Note that DPP is now unavailable from W2 onwards. The following players changed their tiers to accomodate:

Hack (Altruistic Assassins): ADV
benbe (Behemoth Blades): SS
Cynara (Behemoth Blades): ORAS
dream (Behemoth Blades): ADV
Sharow (Behemoth Blades): SS
Staxi (Behemoth Blades): ORAS
Mr.378 (Cutthroat Corviknights): SS
squinn (Cutthroat Corviknights): USM
Terracotta (Cutthroat Corviknights): ORAS
Thugly Duckling (Cutthroat Corviknights): USM
WreckDra (Cutthroat Corviknights): SS
The Dovahneer (Hoenn Hitmen): ADV
0kay (Slaying Sirfetch'ds): USM
byronthewellwell (Slaying Sirfetch'ds): ORAS
Catalystic (Slaying Sirfetch'ds): ORAS
Manaphy (Slaying Sirfetch'ds): ADV
Melle2402 (The Syndicate): ORAS

The OP will be updated to reflect this.

Bounty Totals after Week 1:

Altruistic Assassins: 129,500 (+28,000)
Behemoth Blades: 112,000 (+10,500)
Hoenn Hitmen: 98,500 (-3,000)
The Syndicate: 96,500 (-5,000)
Slaying Sirfetch'ds: 95,000 (-6,500)
Cutthroat Corviknights: 77,500 (-24,000)

Week 2 Calls

RCred403 vs Jase Duken

Jase missed the time and was unresponsive after.

Thugly Duckling vs benbe

Annoying one to call but activity calls are primarily based on VMs, and Thugly's lack of response after benbe suggested a day (not even a time, this is bad scheduling by the way...) and apparent lack of response to his captain who made the call for him makes it difficult to consider this a dead game.

squinn vs dream

Its frustrating that we even need to call this because both parties were too complacent in their scheduling. squinn taking 5 days to respond to his opponent's VM (less than 48 hours before the deadline) is asking for trouble. dream should have been more forward with his poor weekend availability. dream still VM'd early enough for it to be difficult to say its a dead game so we are reluctantly giving him it, but as a message to all of you: be more open about your availabilities and make effort to schedule the games if you want a valid activity case.

Penalties

Evuelf: 8,500 (-8,500) (repeated bench)

This 8,500 was spread to the top players as of the end of week 2. The top players on the other 5 teams all got +2000 as its rounded up.

Bounty Totals after Week 2:

Hoenn Hitmen: 125,000 (+26,500)
Altrustic Assassins: 116,000 (-13,500)
The Syndicate: 105,000 (+8,500)
Behemoth Blades: 96,500 (-15,500)
Cutthroat Corviknights: 89,500 (+12,000)
Slaying Sirfetch'ds: 78,500 (-16,500)

Week 3 Calls

DracoMaster Dab vs Royal1604

The act post covers it but from what I've heard Dab is unable to play so that just makes this easier to call.

WreckDra vs Jase Duken

Jase missed the first scheduled time and didn't manage to get a second time or the game going despite some attempts from both parties. Clear act win.

Tier Availability: BW and ADV are now unavailable starting Week 4. All players are now locked to SS / USM / ORAS.

Penalties:

Evuelf: 8500 (-4,500) = 4,000 (repeated bench)
absdaddy: 8000 (-4,000) = 4000 (repeated bench)

Evuelf's penalty is spread as +1,000 to the top players on the other 5 teams as of the end of week 3.

absdaddy's penalty is spread as +1,000 to the top players on the other 5 teams as of the end of week 3.

Deaths

The following players have run out of lives after this week and are now out of the tournament. Pour one out for:

Cynara [Behemoth Blades]
orch [Cutthroat Corviknights]
Melle2402 [The Syndicate]
Jase Duken [The Syndicate]

Bounty Totals after Week 3:

Hoenn Hitmen: 134,500 (+9,500)
Altrustic Assassins: 121,000 (+5,000)
Behemoth Blades: 96,000 (-500)
The Syndicate: 92,500 (-12,500)
Cutthroat Corviknights: 89,000 (-500)
Slaying Sirfetch'ds: 79,500 (+1,000)

Regarding Assassins

Since we're almost at the point that assassins can become part of the tournament strategy and I've been asked a few times for clarifications, here's the long explanation behind how this works.

Assassination games are an optional choice for players that have won 4 (and 6) games. They do not have to be wins in a row. You do not have to use assassin status the week after you get it. You can hold on to the Assassin status for future weeks and play as normal.

Assassin games are best of 1, just like any other MW game. If either player loses the game, they lose all their lives at once (knocking them out of the tournament) and all their bounty goes to the winner.

In practice, here is how it works:

- Be eligible for assassin status
- Tell your captain you wish to be an assassin in the tier you will be playing that week. This will be done as lineups are submitted and can't be backed out of once committed.
- Once we have all lineups, we can figure out who's in the pool the assassin is playing in.
- We (hosts) will then inform the assassin who is in that tier pool that week.
- The assassin will then make their choice of who to face.
- Matchups will be made with the remaining pool as normal.

The aim of committing to assassinations before knowing who's available is to avoid it being used as a scouting tool.

If you feel doing this is too risky, that's your decision. Assassins are not meant to be safe calls due to the power it has in this format. They are locked behind multiple wins and given considerable risk as a balancing factor. High risk, high reward. It might win your team the tournament though...

Multiple assassins can appear in a single week. To resolve matchups, know that assassin priority is given to the highest bounty assassin.
- Players A to F are in the pool, with bounty spread in descending order.
- Players A and B are assassins in the same tier in a single week.
- Player B challenges Player F hoping to avoid Player A (via normal matchmaking).
- However, Player A challenges Player B.
- The assassin series becomes A vs B as higher bounty takes priority.

- Players A to F are in the pool, with bounty spread in descending order.
- Players B and F are assassins in the same tier in a single week.
- Player F challenges Player B hoping to snipe the other assassin.
- However, Player B challenges Player A.
- As player B has the higher bounty, their priority in choice puts them against player A.
- Player F must choose another target.

If your assassin status is cancelled out*, the lower bounty assassin will still retain their own use of assassin status should they survive the series.

* a higher bounty assassin challenges another lower bounty assassin - this assumes both players tried to assassinate in a single week

If you are challenged by an assassin, you cannot refuse to play the series without conceding defeat. There are a few strategic ways to avoid being assassinated:

- Safehouse (bench)
Sit out for a week and see if the potential assassins use their series on others. Since they have to commit to the assassin series before knowing who's in the pool to fight, you could dodge them.
- Play another tier that week
If you suspect the assassins will look for you in a certain tier, play in another one. As they have to commit to a tier at the same time as an assassin game, you could avoid being in their sights.
- Become an assassin yourself
A less available counterplay, but if you are a higher bounty player than the other potential assassins, use the priority matchmaking to your advantage and fight someone else. Even if they find you as an assassin, your choice takes priority and they have to use their status on someone else.

Week 4 Calls

Manaphy
vs Watchog

Watchog missed the scheduled time and nothing happened since.

PurpleGatorade vs Royal1604

Word on the street is that these idiots played on PS main and didn't save their replay the first time around leading to a replayed series, can you believe it? In any case we have a recorded win for PG and that will stand as normal. Play on smogtours!!!

Penalties

absdaddy: 4,000 (-4,000)
Evuelf: 4,000 (-4,000)
Thugly Duckling: 1,000 (-1,000)

As all 3 mentioned players have lost their last life to a penalty, all of their bounty will be spread to the top players of other teams.

Assassins

The following players are now eligible for Assassin status - watch out!

Garay oak - 4 wins (Hoenn Hitmen)
The Dovahneer - 4 wins (Hoenn Hitmen)

Deaths

The following players have run out of lives after this week and are now out of the tournament. Pour one out for:

LuckyPiper (Behemoth Blades)

squinn (Cutthroat Corviknights)
Vileman (Cutthroat Corviknights)
WreckDra (Cutthroat Corviknights)
absdaddy (Hoenn Hitmen)
Mysterious M (Hoenn Hitmen)
Alkione (Slaying Sirfetch'ds)
Evuelf (The Syndicate)

Bounty Totals after Week 4:

Hoenn Hitmen: 168,000 (+33,500)
Altruistic Assassins: 165,000 (+44,000)
Slaying Sirfetch'ds: 98,500 (+19,000)
The Syndicate: 86,500 (-6,000)
Behemoth Blades: 59,000 (-37,000)
Cutthroat Corviknights: 39,000 (-50,000)

Week 5 Calls

DracoMaster Dab vs Eternal Spirit

This is a real weird one. Dab hasn't been on since January 25th, and was benched last week due to irl. His team expected him back this week, but he hasn't shown up at all. This would normally mean a clear activity case... but Eternal Spirit didn't attempt to make any contact. There's no VM or other logs showing attempts to schedule - Exiline told me that Eternal Spirit saw Dab's inactivity and didn't bother to try.

When it comes to grey areas like this we default to the scheduling expectations which go along the lines of showing some sort of effort to get any valid activity wins. There was no visible effort from either party, so this will be a dead game. As both players were on their last life, they are now dead - see how we treat activity cases. Their bounties will be split between the top players on other teams as a result.

Assassins

The following players are now eligible for Assassin status - watch out!

Hack - 4 wins (Altruistic Assassins)
Hugo Barrington - 4 wins (Altruistic Assassins)
Reje - 4 wins (Altruistic Assassins)
Aishia - 4 wins (Hoenn Hitmen)
Kebabe - 4 wins (Slaying Sirfetch'ds)
Ballfire - 4 wins (The Syndicate)

Chill Shadow (Hoenn Hitmen)
RCred403 (Hoenn Hitmen)
Manaphy (Slaying Sirfetch'ds)

Hoenn Hitmen: 216,000 (+49,000)
Altruistic Assassins: 161,000 (-4,000)
Slaying Sirfetch'ds: 118,500 (+20,000)
The Syndicate: 52,500 (-34,000)
Cutthroat Corviknights: 40,000 (+1,000)
Behemoth Blades: 27,000 (-32,000)

Regarding Pokemon Home and SS

Pokemon Home has released midway into week 6 of the tournament, drastically changing SS. Week 6 is an obvious call off, but Most Wanted is only 7 weeks long, and allowing these changes to be played with in the final week of the tournament has large competitive ramifications.

As a result, we will freeze SS Ubers to the pre-Home state for the rest of Most Wanted. The use of Home-legal movesets or Pokemon will be considered forfeiting the match - be very careful with what you use in weeks 6 and 7.

Week 6 Calls

Final Week Calls

Enzo Gorlami
vs 0kay

Enzo left a VM really late and called activity to the lack of response. When 0kay was asked he had little desire to play the game considering the tournament is over, so the activity win goes to Enzo. The deadline is still like 8 hours away but we're wrapping this up now after talking to the players.
