[Monotype/Ground] Seismitoad [QC 2/3]

OVERVIEW]

- Great Typing and ability adds an immunity to water as well as taking neutral from ice
- Amazing check to many water types such as Azumarill, Swampert and Rotom Wash
- Diverse movepool consisting of moves such as; Hydro Pump, Scald, Earth Power, Knock Off, Sludge Wave and Drain Punch which allows it check a wide variety of Pokemon and provide support for teammates
- Special attack is underwhelming without Life Orb or Choice specs
- While having an immunity to water this comes at the cost of a 4x weakness to Grass
- Competes with Gastrodon who has slightly better bulk and access to recovery, however seismitoad forges its own niche with offencive sets due to its better speed and coverage
- Overall, an excellent addition to ground teams due to its expansive movepool, flexibility and immunity to Water-type attacks

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves

========
General comment is to make sure you include examples.

- Hydro Pump is the most powerful STAB whereas Scald has the burn chance however Scald misses out on some notable 2HKO’s against pokemon such as Mandibuzz, Garchomp and

- Earth Power provides secondary STAB to hit Pokemon that resist Hydro Pump, such as Kyurem-Black, Slowbro and Keldeo.

- Sludge Bomb hits Grass-type Pokemon that resist Seismitoad's STAB moves while also hitting Azumarill much harder than Earth Power, letting Seismitoad check it effectively. It is also rounds out the coverage hitting Dragon-type Pokemon that resist Earth Power like Latios and Hydreigon and it also has a nice chance to poison.

- Grass Knot hits bulky water types OHKOing pokemon such as Swampert and 2HKOing Mega Gyarados and Gastrodon

- Focus Blast hit bulky pokemon not hit super effectively by the STAB combination most notably Ferrothorn.

- Sludge Wave can be used for higher damage output, but the extra damage doesn't guarantee any important KO's over Sludge Bomb.

- Knock Off can be used to lure in the likes of Latias and Chansey and remove their item making it easier for other team members to gain a KO on them.

- Drain Punch can be added to give Seismitoad a reliable recovery while using an Assault Vest

Set Details

========

- Choice Specs has a higher damage output at the cost of being locked into a move if this is undesirable then a Life Orb can be used but some 2HKO’s are missed out on. And the recoil limits Seismitoad's effectiveness as a Water-type switchin.

- 64 Speed EVs allows for Seismitoad to outspeed max speed adamant Azumarill, Max Sp.Att and a Modest nature are used to maximise Seimitoads damage output, the rest is put into HP to maximise Seismitoad’s bulk.

- An alternate EV spread of 32 HP / 252 SpA / 224 Spe with a Timid Nature for Choice Specs and a Spread of 252HP / 32 SpA / 224 Spe With a Timid Nature can be used to outspeed base 70 Spe Pokemon such as Breloom and Bisharp.

- Water Absorb provides an immunity to water moves while also recovering HP giving Seismitoad good switch in opportunites

Usage Tips

========

Seismitoad should be switched in on suspected water attacks such as Scald and Hydro Pumps, from there the appropriate coverage attack should be used. Seismitoad is extremely effective at switching in on passive physical walls that annoy Ground-type teams such as Skarmory and Slowbro being able to threaten them and most switchs with its STAB attacks.

It is best to play cautiously with seismitoad vs water as Seismitoad only has average bulk at best and lacks recovery and should be kept healthy so it can continue to deter the opponent from using Water-Type attacks which would KO many pokemon on a ground team, a weakened Seismitoad is easily picked off by coverage attacks.

Try to avoid status on Seismitoad as the passive damage can leave it unable to check opposing Pokemon.

When the opponent doesn't have Pokemon with Water-type attacks to threaten the rest of the Ground team, play Seismitoad aggressively and use it to punch holes in the opposing team. It can also be used as a sack to safely bring in one of Ground's major offensive threats, such as Lando or M-Chomp, in this situation.Bad line to say about any decent Pokemon

Team Options

========
- Seismitoad is a major Supporter on ground teams as it is the main switch in to Water attacks from absorbing scalds that may cripple the team to Hydro Pumps that would otherwise one shot its teammates, for as long as it’s around the opponent must be cautious of using these moves This is an odd way of phrasing this. Say instead "Seismitoad does not require much support defensively as it is the one supporting the team by absorbing Water-type moves. Most team options are instead to help Seismitoad's offensive wallbreaking capabilities.

- Mega-Garchomp and Mega-Camerupt help with Seismitoads weakness to Grass attacks while Seismitoad can help mitigate their Ice Type and Water type weakness respectively while also being able to switch into Knock Offs

- Hippowdown can set in up Stealth Rock and Sandstorm which wear Pokemon down to be KO’d by Seismitoad

- Landorus-T is a good teammate as it can pivot into Seismitoad with U-turn which can beat the physically defensive Pokemon that are likely to switch into Landorus-T.

- Mamoswine is useful due to its ability to check many Grass and Dragon-Type pokemon that would otherwise check Seismitoad.

Landorus-T can provide support using intimidate weakening physical attacker while also using U-turn to give seismitoad free switchins

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options

=============

A leftovers set can be used utilising Knock Off, Toxic, Scald and Stealth Rock however this set lacks the power to check Azumarill and is generally Outclassed by Gastrodon who possesses a reliable recovery move and has better bulk than Seismitoad. Stealth rock is also more appropriate on Hippowdon as it can reliably reset the hazards if they have been removed due to its better bulk and reliable recovery

A mixed Life Orb Set is also a possibility but the damage output it underwhelming especially compared to better mixed attackers such as Landorus-I and Mega-Garchomp and isn't worth compromising Seismitoad's Bulk.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ground**

**Grass Types**: Grass-type Pokemon resist Seismitoad's STAB moves and can force Seismitoad out by targeting its 4x weakness. Pokemon like Mega Venusaur, Cradily, and Amoonguss are able to switch in on most Seismitoad sets and force it out, and most other Grass-type Pokemon like Breloom and Celebi are able to check it offensively but are unable to switch in due to taking heavy damage from Sludge Bomb variants.

**Grass Type Coverage**: Many Pokemon carry grass type coverage such as Hidden Power Grass on Keldeo and Magnezone, Grass Knot on Infernape and Thundurus and Energy Ball on Latios and Meloetta. All of these can OHKO Specs Seismitoad and severely weaken Assault Vest Variants

**Special Attacks that Target Defence**: Psychic types with Psyshock and Keldeo’s Secret Sword can both bypass the Assault Vest and target the weaker defence stat to gain 2HKO’s on Seismitoad This is very specific and Seismitoad's Defense is actually the same as its Special Defense.

**Special Defensive Walls**: Special Variants of Seismitoad lack the power to break most special defensive walls, most notably Mega-Latias, Zapdos, and Chansey. Mega-Latias takes minimal damage from STAB attacks and its great bulk means it takes little from coverage even on physically offensive sets Knock Off still does little. Zapdos can out recover Specs boosted Hydro Pump and force out Seismitoad with toxic. Chansey can wall offensive sets due to its amazing Special Bulk, but is annoyed by the combination of Knock Off and Drain Punch on AV sets.

**Wallbreakers**: Because Seismitoad is easy to wear down due to its lack of reliable recovery, many wallbreakers outspeed and OHKO Seismitoad if they gain the switch in, notable threats to Seismitoad are like Mega Charizard-Y, Specs Meloetta, Banded Diggersby and Mega-Garchomp. Many of these Pokémon can force seismitoad out and KO most switch ins with their powerful STAB and coverage.

Sorry for how long this sat. Feel free to poke me on PS in the future if the analysis isn't getting checked while others are.

Nice job! Comments in Bold. After they're implemented, QC 1/3

move 4: Grass Knot / Focus Blast

Don't Slash Life Orb, just mention it in OO.

Don't slash Surf. Just make mention of it in the Moves section. In general, you have 4 places for moves to go (in order of importance):

1. As a move on the set
2. As a slash on the set
3. As a mention in the Moves section of Set Comments, but not slashed
4. In the Other Options section at the end of the analysis

I think Sludge Bomb should be used over Sludge Wave. It has the extra chance to Poison, is still able to 2HKO all the Fairy-types, and KO's Azu after a BD. Against Dragon, Wave only gives you a greater chance to 2HKO kyu-b after rocks (~80% w/ wave). It doesn't matter for Lati's or Dnite as both Wave and Bomb either don't or do 2HKO, respectively. Grass-type targets would be something like Gourgeist or Cradily where you'd want to poison them over dealing extra damage and Bomb OHKO's Breloom if you choose to run a speedy set.

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves

========
General comment is to make sure you include examples.

- Hydro Pump is the most powerful STAB, Surf is weaker but more reliable, Scald has the burn chance
Talk about some of the targets you miss KO's on when switching from Pump to Surf/Scald. For instance, Specs Hydro Pump can 2HKO a mixed defenses Clefable, whereas Surf/Scald can not.

- Earth Power provides secondary STAB to hit Pokemon that resist Hydro Pump, such as Kyurem-Black or Slowbro.

switch mentions of Wave/Bomb.
- Sludge Wave deals heavy damage to Azumarill and Grass types that switch in while dealing reliable damage to Rotom-W and Many Dragon-Type Switch-ins

- Grass Knot hits bulky water types hard, such as Swampert.

- Focus Blast hit Ice Types and Dark Types not hit super effectively by the STAB combination such as Umbreon and Avalugg as well as hit Ferrothorn for respectable damage

- Sets lacking Sludge Wave will lose one on one vs Belly Drum Azumarill
I disagree with this. We run the 64 Spe EV's so you can hit it twice in a 1 on 1 situation. Earth Power does >60% and it can't AJ to KO after the Drum. If it just attacks then you 2HKO unless you get really bad rolls. I think it should say "sets lacking Sludge Bomb are unable to switch in on BD Azu and KO after a BD."

- Sludge Bomb can be used for the higher poison chance at the cost for less outright damage
Sludge Wave can be used for higher damage output, but the extra damage doesn't guarantee any important KO's over Sludge Bomb.

- Hidden Power Ice can be used to deal more damage to the likes of Garchomp and Landorus

- Life Orb Sets can carry knock off if the team requires remove the mention of life orb and just say it can carry knock off. You're using it as a lure for something like Chansey or Zapdos, so the power doesn't matter at all.

Set Details

========

- Choice Specs has a higher damage output at the cost of being locked into a move whereas Life Orb is slightly weaker but doesn’t lock it into one attack
Move the mention of Life Orb down to OO.

- 64 Speed EVs allows for Seismitoad to outspeed max speed adamant Azumarill, Max Sp.Att and a Modest nature are used to maximise Seimitoads damage output, the rest is put into HP to maximise Seismitoad’s bulk

- An alternate EV spread with max Speed and max Special Attack can be used to outspeed the likes of Breloom and Bisharp but the loss of power is noticeable
An alternate EV spread of 32 HP / 252 SpA / 224 Spe can be used to outspeed base 70 Spe Pokemon such as Breloom and Bisharp, but the loss of bulk is noticeable.

- Water Absorb provides an immunity to water moves while also recovering HP giving Seismitoad good switch in opportunites

- Swift Swim can be used with Life orb to give a check to Swift Swim teams but Water Absorb is preferred due to the ease of switch in.

Usage Tips

========

Seismitoad should be switched in on suspected water attacks such as Scald and Hydro Pumps, from there the appropriate coverage attack should be used. Seismitoad is extremely effective at switching in on physical walls such as Skarmory and Slowbro being able to threaten them and most switchs with its STAB attacks.

It is best to play cautiously with seismitoad vs water as it can take on most pokemon on water teams with ease aside from Gyarados and Ludicolo, losing Seismitoad in this match up sevearly hurts your chances.

Try to avoid status on Seismitoad as the passive damage can leave it unable to check opposing Pokemon.

When the opponent doesn't have Water-type attacks to threaten the rest of the Ground team, play Seismitoad aggressively and use it to punch holes in the opposing team. It can also be used as a sack to safely bring in one of Ground's major offensive threats, such as Lando or M-Chomp, in this situation.

Team Options

========
Mention that Seismitoad is often the one supporting the rest of the team by deterring the use of Water-type attacks.

- Mega-Garchomp and Mega-Camerupt help with Seismitoads weakness to Grass attacks while Seismitoad can help mitigate their Ice Type and Water type weakness respectively while also being able to switch into Knock Offs

- Hippowdown can set in Stealth Rock and Sandstorm which wear Pokemon down to be KO’d by Seismitoad

- Landorus-T can provide support using intimidate weakening physical attacker while also using U-turn to give seismitoad free switchins

move 3: Drain Punch
move 4: Knock Off
item: Assault Vest
ability: Water Absorb
nature: Adamant
EVs: 132 HP / 184 Atk / 128 SpDef / 64 Spe

I like what this EV spread does, but we need to make sure that is the most efficient way to achieve that bulk. I'm not very good with optimizing EV spreads though (maybe Eien is?).

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves

========

- Scald provides a useful STAB even uninvested being able to 2HKO Landorus-I and with its burn chance can help make Seismitoad a stubborn Pokemon to take down

- Earthquake provides a Primary STAB attack which is still capable of checking Pre-Setup Belly Drum Azumarill. This also breaks Sub-CM Keldeo's subs and deters it from boosting.

- Knock Off provides a useful utility move which allows it to remove Eviolite from Chansey and Porygon2 and Choice Specs from Keldeo as well as hitting Psychic and Ghost types hard

- Drain Punch adds a semi-reliable recovery option which helps improve Seismitoad’s longevity as well as providing good coverage alongside Knock Off

- Grass Knot can be used to help deal with Bulky Waters such as Swampert and opposing Seismitoad

Set Details

========

- Assault Vest transforms Seismitoad into quite a capable Specially Defencive Tank by boosting its SpDef Stat to better complement its high HP stat.

- 64 Speed EVs allows for Seismitoad to outspeed max speed adamant Azumarill.

- The HP and SpDef investments give seismitoad the equivilent bulk to a max 90 HP and 100 SpDef pokemon excellent special bulk—allowing it to avoid 2HKO by Landorus-I’s Earth Power, Kindgra’s Draco Meteor and Mega-Gardevoir’s Hypervoice

- The rest of the EVs are placed into Attack, an Adamant Nature is used to increase damage output while not hurting its bulk or speed

- Water Absorb provides an immunity to water moves while also recovering HP giving Seismitoad good switch in opportunites

Usage Tips

========

This Seismitoad set should should switch in on a predicted specially-oriented attack and use Scald or Knock Off to spread status or remove items, respectively.

Seismitoad should be switched in on suspected water attacks or special neutral coverage attacks, against opposing walls Knock off is the best way forward as removing the passive recovery of Leftovers helps sand chip away, removed Eviolites will aid Mamoswine, Landorus and Garchomp-Mega in breaking these walls. Seismitoad should aim to wear down as much of the opposing team is it can using its bulk and damage output to aid the rest of the team later in the game.

Try to avoid status on Seismitoad as the passive damage can leave it unable to check opposing Pokemon.

It is best to play cautiously with seismitoad vs water as it can take on most pokemon on water teams with ease aside from Gyarados and Ludicolo, losing Seismitoad in this match up severely hurts your chances.

Team Options

========
Mention that Seismitoad is often the one supporting the rest of the team by deterring the use of Water-type attacks.

- Wallbreakers such as Banded Mamoswine, Banded Excadrill, Mega-Garchomp and Mega-Camerupt all appreciate walls such as Porygon2 having their Eviolite Knocked Off with the latter 3 also helping deal with Seismitoads Grass Weakness.

- Hippowdown can set in Stealth Rock and Sandstorm which wear Pokemon down to be KO’d by Seismitoad

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options

=============

A leftovers set can be used utilising Knock Off, Toxic, Scald and Stealth Rock however this set lacks the power to check Azumarill and is generally Outclassed by Gastrodon who possesses a reliable recovery move and has better bulk than Seismitoad. Also mention that SR is typically more appropriate on Hippow

A mixed Life Orb Set is also a possibility but the damage output it underwhelming especially compared to better mixed attackers such as Landorus-I and Mega-Garchomp and isn't worth compromising Seismitoad's longevity/bulk.

A Special Assault Vest sounds like a plausible idea however it is forced to run more special attack which gives less investment for special Defence, even then the damage output is still underwhelming and it lacks the recovery physical Assault Vest sets gain in Drain Punch

Checks and Counters
===================

Don't actually bold these. Do **Check/Counter**

Make sure you add the type here: **Ground**

Grass Types: Many Grass Types resist Seismitoad Dual STAB attacks and force Seismitoad out with their own STAB, the most notable of these include Mega-Venusaur and Craydily with Venusaur able to switch in on anything seismitoad uses, with craydily beating variants that lack Focus Blast. Breloom is another notable threat as it tends to outspeed all bulky variants of seismitoad and either incapacitate using spore or outright KO using Bullet Seed.

Add grass-type coverage. Pokemon like Keldeo or Magnezone can carry HP Grass, while Infernape or Thundurus can carry Grass Knot—moves that will OHKO offensive variants or significantly weaken AV Seismitoad.

Add passive damage. Status moves and hazards can wear down Seismitoad due to its lack of recovery, which leaves it unable to reliably check opposing Pokemon.

Mention special attacks that can hit Seismitoad's physical defense (I don't recall the formal term for this). Keldeo's Secret Sword or Mega-Gardevoir's Psyshock can hit AV Seismitoad's physical defenses leaving it unable to reliably check these threats.

Special Defensive Walls: Special Variants of Seismitoad lack the power to break most special defensive walls, most notably Mega-Latias, Zapdos, and Chansey.

Wallbreakers: Many wall breakers out speed and OHKO Seismitoad if they gain the switch in, notable threats to Seismitoad are Mega Charizard-Y, Specs Meloetta, Banded Diggersby and Mega-Garchomp. Many of these Pokémon can force seismitoad out and KO most switch ins with their powerful STAB and coverage.

It's Ok, I'll work in the comments to refine once the other 2 QC's have gone in
I might have misunderstood what you meant, but just to make sure I'll clarify. You need to implement his check before you get any more. Put in the title [QC: 0/3] and change it to [QC: 1/3] once you've finished so we know. So your title would be: [Monotype/Ground] Seismitoad [QC: 0/3] right now.

- Amazing check to many water types such as Azumarill, Swampert and Rotom Wash
- Great Typing and ability adds an immunity to water as well as taking neutral from ice may want to switch the order of these first two sentences, it's a good check to these mons because of its typing and ability

Mention that it has a lack of reliable recovery
Mention that it faces competition from Gastrodon which has slightly better bulk and access to reliable recovery, but has a niche over Gastrodon with offensive sets due to its speed and coverage
Mention that although it boasts an immunity to Water-type moves it enhances the Grass weakness for Ground teams because of its 4x weakness.

- Sludge Bomb deals heavy damage to Azumarill and Grass types that switch in while dealing reliable damage to Rotom-W and Many Dragon-Type Switch-ins while also having the potential to spread status. Awkwardly worded, try "Sludge Bomb hits Grass-type Pokemon that resist Seismitoad's STAB moves while also importantly hitting Azumarill much harder than Earth Power, letting Seismitoad check it effectively. It is also a good neutral move to use against Dragon-type Pokemon like Latios and Hydreigon and it also has a nice chance to poison."

- Grass Knot hits bulky water types hard, such as Swampert and Mega-Gyarados. Mention Gastrodon

- Focus Blast hit bulky Ice Types and Dark Types not hit super effectively by the STAB combination such as Umbreon and Avalugg as well as hit Ferrothorn for respectable damage. Focus Blast is really only used for Ferrothorn. You aren't breaking Umbreon even with Focus Blast, and Avalugg is 2HKOd by a STAB move so that's irrelevant

- Sets lacking Sludge Wave will struggle to find switch in vs Belly Drum Azumarill post Set-Up as they cannot take out the Azumarill in one hit unless it has sustained some prior damage with Azumarill KOing with Knock Off Incredibly awkwardly worded and is redundant, this essentially just repeats that Sludge Bomb hits Azumarill.

- Sludge Wave can be used for higher damage output, but the extra damage doesn't guarantee any important KO's over Sludge Bomb.

- Hidden Power Ice can be used to deal more damage to the likes of Garchomp and Landorus No, water STAB OHKOs Landorus and 2HKOs all variants of Garchomp. HP Ice doesn't even OHKO Garchomp so it actually has zero use.

- Knock Off can be used to lure in the likes of Zapdos and Chansey and remove their item making it easier for other team members to gain a KO on them. Zapdos is a bad example. Try Porygon2 or Slowbro. Mention that Knock Off also hits Latios and Latias.

- Swift Swim can be used with Life orb to give a check to Swift Swim teams but Water Absorb is preferred due to the ease of switch in. Nope, no reason to use SS Seismitoad on Ground. Water Absorb "checks Swift Swim teams" better than SS anyways.

Seismitoad is extremely effective at switching in on passive physical walls that annoy Ground-type teams such as Skarmory and Slowbro being able to threaten them and most switchs with its STAB attacks.

It is best to play cautiously with seismitoad vs water as it can take on most pokemon on water teams with ease aside from Gyarados and Ludicolo, losing Seismitoad in this match up severely hurts your chances. Explain what "play cautiously" means -- say that this set isn't very bulky and it has no recovery so it is important to keep it healthy to prevent the opponent from freely using Water-type moves.

- Seismitoad is a major Supporter on ground teams as it is the main switch in to Water attacks from absorbing scalds that may cripple the team to Hydro Pumps that would otherwise one shot its teammates, for as long as it’s around the opponent must be cautious of using these moves See my comment in your other Team Optiosn section

- Landorus-T can provide support using intimidate weakening physical attacker while also using U-turn to give seismitoad free switch ins

Other Options

=============

A Special Assault Vest sounds like a plausible idea however it is forced to run more special attack which gives less investment for special Defence, even then the damage output is still underwhelming and it lacks the recovery physical Assault Vest sets gain in Drain Punch

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ground**

**Grass Types**: Many Grass Types resist Seismitoad Dual STAB attacks and force Seismitoad out with their own STAB, the most notable of these include Mega-Venusaur and Craydily with Venusaur able to switch in on anything seismitoad uses, with craydily beating variants that lack Focus Blast. Breloom is another notable threat as it tends to outspeed all bulky variants of seismitoad and either incapacitate using spore or outright KO using Bullet Seed. Awkwardly phrased again. Try "Grass-type Pokemon resist Seismitoad's STAB moves and can target Seismitoad's 4x weakness. Pokemon like Mega Venusaur, Cradily, and Amoonguss are able to switch in on most Seismitoad sets and force it out, and most other Grass-type Pokemon like Breloom and Celebi are able to check it offensively but take heavy damage from Sludge Bomb variants."

Comments in bold.

This is a lot of stuff to change and I want to discuss the viability of the AV set you have with the QC team, so I can't stamp this just yet, but implement the stuff I've put and we'll go from there.

You also left a bunch of scp's comments still in there, so please re-read your edited analysis before adding the QC into your title.

well that was a disheartening, sorry about the leaving of comments i forgot about them when i was using them as reference on my changes. but i will impliment the changes

all falls down

thanks ugly god

After talking with the QC team, we're in agreement that the second set on this analyses is unnecessary and rather gimmicky. Mention the set (physical Assault Vest) in Other Options after getting rid of it.

Slash Assault Vest with Choice Specs on the first set instead (keep specs first), and rename the set "Offensive Pivot". Keep the EV spread (but with 252 SpA and 192 HP instead, not sure why you're 248 SpA), and in Set Details mention that you can opt for more hp investment if using Assault Vest, namely 252 HP / 192 SpA / 64 Spe and 252 HP / 32 SpA / 224 Spe (for Azu and Breloom, respectively). Remember to reread all of your set comments for the first set and edit as necessary, noting differences between specs and AV. Post a reply once you've implemented these changes.

and by the way, don't feel disheartened!

This is your first analysis and it's not bad at all, and the formatting for these analyses is pretty different from what monotype was doing before. It's a learning experience for all of us!

Okay ill remove the set now, on my test calcs it wasnt showing much difference on mons but it turns out it was just on the mons i was testing when i used a different batch there were some differences so ill change that up now. Hopefully my next ones wont require as many comments and im willing to continue to help, been playing for 3 years its about time i gave back

You've had 2 QC checks so you need to write this up before a 3rd QC check will happen (take it from a bulleted list to paragraph form).

Didn't want this to just sit if you were waiting on a 3rd one.

once KGbanter moves the existing info into a new thread, I'll lock and move this one.
