After a period of public suspect testing on Mew in the Gen 8 1v1 ladder (whose results can be found here), Mew was banned from the 1v1 metagame, reaching the 60% or more majority required to ban, and with 27 players achieving reqs. As a recap, Mew was an incredibly centralizing force in the 1v1 metagame; its ability to not only serve as the most effective speed trap in the metagame with its oppressive and highly customizable Imprison + Transform set, alongside its equally scary offensive sets, with Mew being able to utilize all three Choice items alongside Trick, made Mew extremely challenging, if not impossible, to build against. While certain sets of certain Pokemon, such as Choice Scarf Mimikyu, proved to be mostly effective against Mew, these were few and far between, and general a Mew could be created to fit any team's weaknesses, exuding immense pressure on Team Preview.

Additionally, Moody was also unanimously quickbanned in the 1v1 metagame, by the 1v1 council. This vote took place before Quote stepped down, so they were part of the decision, as well. This was a lower priority, having been brought up alongside Pokemon like Sableye and Mew, with the general consensus being that it only enabled cheese strategies, and thus wasn't a huge competitive force. However, despite its apparent nerfs, it does not create a competitive game state, and enables players who spam Substitute and Protect to win if they are lucky enough. We were waiting for Mew and Sableye to be addressed, alongside a precedent to be set by Gen 8 OU, and after the latter was done, we held our vote.
