Altaria got a new Mega Evolution in ORAS, changing typing to an excellent Dragon / Fairy upon mega evolving, and gaining Pixilate as its ability. Its new typing gives it an immunity to Dragon and allows it to resist the dual STAB of Palkia, Zekrom and Reshiram, meaning that Altaria can effectively wall them, and it can also check Yveltal very nicely.
Altaria's wide movepool means that it can wall many Ubers Pokemon, and provide excellent team support with Heal Bell, Perish Song, Roar and Haze, and can recover its health back with Roost. Altaria can also choose when to Mega Evolve, as its pre-Mega typing of Dragon / Flying gives it a resistance to Primal Groudon's dual STAB. However, Mega Altaria does have a slight issue in that it cannot switch into Palkia or Zekrom very safely if it has not Mega Evolvet yet.

This set allows Altaria to tailor its set to counter what it likes, with aphysically defensive spread doing well against Zekrom and Lati@s, and specially defensive doing well against Palkia and Yveltal. Body Slam means that Altaria can hit the things it walls for supereffective damage, and deters switchins such as Xerneas (which actually grants Altaria a 30% boost due to Fairy Aura) and Primal Groudon due to the 30% paralysis chance. Earthquake allows Altaria to KO Mega Gengar and deal supereffective damage to Primal Groudon, as well as dealing damage to certain Steel-type switchins. Hyper Voice alongside Fire Blast and a Bold or Calm Nature is also usable, but physical Mega Altaria is able to deal with Arceus-Dark much more easily, as well as being able to hit Gengar, Heatran etc. Lastly, Heal Bell allows Altaria to provide cleric support to its team, whilst Roost keeps Altaria healthy.

Mega Altaria can also go an offensive route thanks to its access to Dragon Dance. Its ability to set up on Pokemon such as Palkia and Zekrom, alongside its solid offensive stats and typing, mean that Altaria can Dragon Dance quite nicely. Fire Blast allows Altaria to get through Scizor and Ferrothorn, which would be able to stop it otherwise. Again, Altaria can choose when to Mega Evolve, for example holding off on Mega Evolving for a turn so that Scizor cannot hit it with a supereffective Bullet Punch.
