When people start dying in Piedmont, Arizona, the duty officer of the base suspects that the satellite returned with an extra-terrestrial contaminant.
As it turns out, the microbe responsible for the deaths got carried by a meteor that ended up crashing into the satellite, knocking it from orbit.
The nickname was chosen for a Deoxys, since it is an alien virus that fell to Earth on a meteor before undergoing a DNA mutation.
Much like how Deoxys can change forms, the ❝Andromeda❞ microbe mutates with each growth cycle, changing its biological properties.
