The Little Cup Checks Compendium
(Disclaimer: Just because I included a Phanpy sprite doesn't mean its good)What am I looking at?
The idea of a checks compendium is to serve as a general teambuilding resource by listing checks to the most dominant Pokemon in a metagame. The compendium gives a visual representation of what beats the metagame's threats for the sake of being a fast source of information.
How is this organized?
The Pokemon in the compendium below are listed alphabetically (I know past compendiums have done this by viability ranking, but to me this just seems subject to change and hard to constantly update). Underneath each Pokemon, we see its checks, sorted into three categories: GSI, SSI, and NSI. GSI, or Guaranteed Switch-Ins, are Pokemon that can switch into and beat the given threat all of the time, within reason (barring extreme hax or incredibly niche coverage moves). SSI, or Safe Switch-Ins, can switch into and beat the threat situationally. They may need to switch in on a specific move, or require that the threat not be running a somewhat commonly seen coverage move. NSI, or Non-Switch-Ins, can beat the given threat only if they are given a free switch in. Within the categories, Pokemon are organized roughly by viability rankings. This is not the place to discuss the order in which Pokemon are listed unless something is drastically off: we have Viability Rankings for that.
Which Pokemon are listed?
Right now the Pokemon with their checks listed are everything ranked A- or higher in the Viability Rankings. Over the next little while, I aim to include everything ranked B or higher, as anything lower than that is probably niche enough that it doesn't warrant a specific check being run. The Pokemon listed as checks are usually all the Pokemon that fit the category that are rank B or higher. The exception is Pokemon whose sole niche comes from being able to beat a given threat, which are listed even if they are below B rank (see: Stunky being listed as a GSI to Abra).
How can I help?
I'm sure I screwed this up somewhere. Did I list Pawniard as a top Timburr counter? Did I forget your favorite Pokemon when listing the checks to Nosepass? Let me know if I screwed something up (with reasoning/calcs, please) and I will fix it.
Man, this is the best!
Glad you like it! Huge props go to Corporal Levi for helping me look this over. Please like and subscribe for more compendiums like this!
