Welcome to the first edition of GSC Majors! In this tournament, participants will start off in a pool of five players, and the two best records within those pools will advance to the second stage. The Pools are randomised, with the exception of pool leaders. Each pool will have a leader, a credible player handpicked by me based on history and/or recent performances. This will ensure a balanced draw across the pools.
Due to the number of signups (59), we will be going with 8 pools of 5 players and 29 substitutes. After this stage, the tournament will switch to a single elimination tournament with the 16 qualifiers from the pools (2 from each pool).
RULES
- This is a standard GSC OU tournament
- The format for Stage 1 is as follows:
- Stage 1 of this tournament will be a round robin series. Players will be placed in (pending number of signups) 16 pools, and must play all other opponents in their pool.
- Because Stage 1 is a round robin format, this means you are expected to play every opponent in your pool, even if you lose the first couple of games. If you are unwilling to commit to this format, do not sign up. You are also agreeing to play games with potential substitutes.
- The best 2 players from each pool will advance to Stage 2.
- Each pool will have a pool leader who will be determined by the host (me) based on past tournament results. The selection will be arbitrary, to some degree, but I will aim to be as objective as possible.
- Stage 1 matches will be best-of-three. You may switch teams between opponents.
- Due to the number of matches, Stage 1 will last for 3 weeks.
- The format for Stage 2 is as follows:
- The format will be best-of-three, single elimination.
- Changing teams between matches is allowed.
- Rounds will last the standard 1 week.
- Rounds will be Best of Three. You may switch teams in between battles of the same set.
- Matches are to be played on Pokemon Showdown! (Main or SmogTours)
- REPLAYS ARE REQUIRED.
- Activity calls will be made by me, potentially with neutral assistance from another Tournament Director. Coin flips will be done publicly on PS!
- In the event that something is added to or removed from the GSC OU metagame in the middle of a round, that change will be in effect starting the next round.
- Follow the General Tournament Rules and Guidelines.
- Freeze Clause Mod: If a player has already frozen an opposing Pokémon using a freeze-inducing move and that Pokémon is still frozen due to that freeze-inducing move, the player cannot freeze another opposing Pokémon with a freeze-inducing move.
- Sleep Clause Mod: If a player has already put an opposing Pokémon to sleep using a sleep-inducing move and that Pokémon is still sleeping due to that sleep-inducing move, the player cannot put another opposing Pokémon to sleep using a sleep-inducing move.
- Species Clause: A player cannot have two of the same species of Pokémon on their team, based on the National Pokédex number. For example, a player cannot have two Koffing on their team.
- Evasion Clause: Players cannot use Double Team or Minimize in any of their Pokémon's movesets.
- OHKO Clause: Players cannot use Horn Drill, Guillotine, Sheer Cold, or Fissure in any of their Pokémon's movesets.
- Timer Clause: If a player exhausts the timer, they lose.
- Cleric Clause: Pokémon must be at full health and without status conditions at the start of battle.
- SleepTrap Clause: Having a sleep-inducing move and Mean Look or Spider Web on the same moveset is not allowed.
- TrapPass Clause: A Pokémon cannot have Baton Pass alongside the moves Mean Look or Spider Web in its moveset.

I'll be doing activity checks at the end of this week, and substituting out any inactive players or players who have dropped out. If some players make contact via DMs or Discord and playing after this weekend, it'll be very helpful if you let me know in this thread.
