Overview
########

Gothorita is often overlooked, but it has an awesome ability in Shadow Tag which allows it to trap and eliminate dangerous Pokemon for its team. It has an average Special Attack, which it can boost with Calm Mind, as well as decent defensive stats. However, it is a bit slow and it has to rely on Eviolite to be bulky, as well as being quite weak without Calm Mind boosts.

It's a Trap!
########
name: It's a Trap!
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Psychic / Psyshock
move 3: Rest
move 4: Reflect / Thunderbolt
ability: Shadow Tag
item: eviolite
evs: 252 HP / 164 Def / 92 Spe
nature: Bold

Moves
========

Calm Mind boosts Gothorita's special stats to formidable levels. The second move is a toss up. Psychic is the preferred STAB move of choice. However, Psyshock can be used to win Calm Mind wars against Pokemon such as Slowking, if it comes to that. Rest keeps Gothorita healthy and lets it set up multiple times on weak, defensive Pokemon such as Alomomola. Reflect is the preferred move of choice, allowing Gothorita to take on physical hits better, though Thunderbolt prevents Dark-types such as Skuntank from entirely walling Gothorita.

Set Details
========

The given EV spread increases Gothorita's physical bulk, and the Speed EVs allow it to outspeed minimum base 65 Speed Pokemon such as Alomomola and setup on it. Eviolite is the only item that should be used, as it increases Gothorita's only decent defenses. A Bold nature is used to further increase Gothorita's physical bulk.

Usage Tips
========

Switch into Pokemon that have low offensive presence such as Alomomola and Audino, and proceed to set up Calm Mind on them. In addition, do not stay in on Dark-types, as they will deal a lot of damage to Gothorita. Use Reflect often, preferably right after it wears off, as it can help Gothorita take on many hits it would otherwise succumb to as well as supporting its teammates. Lastly, use Rest sparingly, as against defensive teams, it will be extremely valuable.

Team Options
========

Pokemon such Cobalion and Zoroark who appreciate walls such as Alomomola and Aromatisse removed make good partners, and they have excellent type synergy with Gothorita. Cobalion, in particular, has excellent type synergy because it is a fantastic switch-in to Dark-types thanks to its bulk and its ability Justified that raises its Attack when hit by one. Since Gothorita doesn't have access to reliable recovery, cleric support from Pokemon such as Aromatisse make good partners because they can cure sleep if Gothorita decides to use Rest and heal Gothorita with Wish. Aromatisse can also switch into most Dark-types in the tier, bar Drapion and Skuntank. Likewise, Pokemon such as Virizion who can deal with Dark-types such as Sharpedo and specially based Zoroark make good partners, and have excellent type synergy with Gothorita. Pokemon such as Jolteon, Gligar, Braviary that can learn U-turn and Volt Switch make excellent partners because they can help Gothorita switch in for free and trap dangerous threats. However, sometimes Gothorita can end up as dead weight in offensive teams due to the fact it is really weak without any Calm Mind boosts, and does nothing else after it has removed dangerous threats for its team.

Other Options
########

Gothorita has some other options it can run, such as Energy Ball and Shadow Ball, but it's hard to fit onto a moveslot. Hidden Power Fire / Ground / Ice can also be used to hit some Pokemon super effectively, but again, it is hard to fit onto a moveset. An EV spread that maximizes Special Attack can also be used, but Gothorita will be less bulky and more likely to succumb to repeated attacks. A Choice Scarf or Choice Specs set can also be used, along with Trick to cripple defensive walls. Taunt is another interesting option, as it shuts down many defensive Pokemon such as Amoonguss and Gligar. Lastly, Torment lets Gothorita beat Pokemon such as Registeel with more ease, but has little use outside of that.

Checks & Counters
########

**Dark-types** Dark-types such as Shiftry and Sharpedo can force Gothorita out with their powerful STAB attacks.

**Steel-types** Steel-types such as Registeel and Doublade take pitiful damage from Psychic or Psyshock, and the former can wear Gothorita out, while the latter can set up on it.

**Ghost-types** Ghost-types such as Golurk are not affected by Shadow Tag and can force Gothorita out with their powerful STAB moves.

There is no perfect counter or check due to Gothorita's Shadow Tag, though double switching helps.

Well, somebody's got to get the ball rolling on this. May as well be me.

[Overview]

- I'd mention Knock Off with the Eviolite point. Losing Eviolite sucks ass

[It's a Trap!]

- I'd mention Psyshock somewhere to let you win CM wars if it comes to that.
- Note that Cobalion is a fantastic switch-in to most Dark-types due to good physical bulk and Justified
- Add Virizion as an answer to Sharpedo and special-based Zoroark
- Aromatisse deals with most Dark-types, bar Skuntank and Drapion, so include that when you mention it with cleric support

[Other Options]

- Choice Scarf maybe? Extra Speed can help RK some shit like Hitmonlee, Moltres, etc. and Shadow Tag keeps them from escaping

[Checks and Counters]

- Anything with Knock Off can at least deter Gothorita from coming in at will.

Good work with this Sapphire.

QC Approved 1/3 as most of this is just adding on to what you already have working here.

I'd mention Taunt somewhere as it really helps beating Amoonguss who can be annoying with Spore. Torment also helps beating registeel without having to spam rest until he is out of Seismic Toss pps. These moves can go to OO i guess. I think Toxic only beats non-substitute Cresselia as most other targets can be setup on (Slowking, Hitmontop, and Alomomola, especially with Tbolt) or have Aromatherapy (Aromatisse) and i don't think it deserves a slash but i might forget something.
I'd also remove the fact that is "decently powerful" from the overview as the main set has 184 Special Attack

Looks pretty solid for the most part. However, i actually disagree with EonX about the Knock Off mention. Sure, Gothorita *is* technically crippled by Knock Off, but given the role that Gothorita is used in (trapper that snipes specific threats, helping out its team and only occasionally pulling a full 6-0 sweep), i really don't feel like its too much of a problem for goth. Think about it this way, most of the Pokemon you'll be aiming to trap (mostly weak defensive Pokemon like mola etc), won't be carrying Knock Off, and the ones that do will probably still lose to/get set up on Gothorita regardless. By the time the opponent has sent in another Pokemon to cripple it with Knock Off, Gothorita has already done exactly what it was supposed to do: trap and eliminate a big threat to its team.

Otherwise, i agree with EonX's check and everything galbia mentioned, Choice Specs could also deserve a mention in OO imo.

In Team Options, i'd definitely include that Pokemon capable of using U-turn and Volt Switch are VERY good teammates for Gothorita. Pokemon that use these kinds of moves effectively often force a lot of switches, and because they can immediately get the switch advantage against whatever comes in by utilizing these moves, this means that Gothorita gets that much more free opportunities to come in and trap something important. Gligar, Rotom-C, Lanturn, Jolteon, Heliolisk, Yanmega, Meloetta, Moltres, and Braviary are just a few of the examples you could use here.

go through with this and i'll consider this

QC Approved 2/3

Shadow Tag will get the boot after Tornadus-T's UU test is over so... RIP

Also this is a GP thing but you misspelled Torment in the last part of Other options

In OO, talk about trick when you mention specs / scarf. When you talk about the spread say minimum speed base 65s such as Alomomola, this allows the reader to understand where it is in the speed tiers, without having to look up Mola's speed. The overview is pretty skimpy, but that may be because Gothorita is pretty straight forward in its use. Maybe emphasize how weak it is without set up, and that it can end up as dead weight against some offensive teams.

do those and QC approved 3/3

While I don't really know what other QC think, I feel that Reflect should be dropped as a slash and Toxic should be put in its place. While Reflect is nice for making Gothorita bulkier, realistically the investment in physical defense and Eviolite make Gothorita bulky enough to trap what it needs to. On the other hand, Toxic has some very nice utility in getting a guaranteed Toxic on things like Slowking, making them far easier to wear down (and capable of being trapped and KO'd should the Slowking not have Dragon Tail). It'd be nice to have more QC input on this before this moves forward, since this is a pretty important issue to sort out imo.
