Aside from being more sparkly than Abra, Galarian Ponyta has a niche in LC as a Psychic-type wallbreaker over it. Superior bulk, good coverage options in Mystical Fire and Dazzling Gleam, and reliable recovery allow Galarian Ponyta to switch into and punish defensive cores like Onix + Koffing + Ferroseed. It can soften defensive cores for strong special attackers like Abra, Choice Scarf Porygon, and Choice Scarf Vulpix. A Modest nature is preferred with Dazzling Gleam to have a higher chance to OHKO standard Berry Juice Vullaby after Stealth Rock. Although Galarian Ponyta can handle Dark-types like Vullaby and Pawniard with its coverage, it should have secondary checks to them like Mienfoo, Timburr, and Onix. The aforementioned Fighting-types also provide Knock Off, weakening checks like Frillish and Spritzee. Trapinch is another notable partner that is able to remove Pawniard, weaken Ferroseed, and revenge kill Vullaby with First Impression.
