Definitely overrating Tsunoda there imo.
That Alpha Tauri began the season as the 8th-9th best car on the grid, and has gone backwards since. With the improvement to Williams, AT and AR now alternate as the worst car depending on track characteristics.

Therefore, Yuki has no right to be consistently finishing 10th-11th as he has done in 6/12 races. He was also running 9th at Monaco before rain compromised his braking and he had to lift early into corners, subsequently falling to 15th. He was running 9th at Barcelona as well until a harsh penalty for scaring Zhou off the road demoted him to 12th.

Yuki also outperformed his teammate so badly that NDV lost his seat before the Summer break, so what more can he do if he is not already "mostly maximizing" his package?

I think we can all agree the De Vyries axing was harsh and an excuse to get Ricciardo experience because of Perez’s shit performance this year.

Haas is also just as bad imo as AT and AR (in races at least because of their tyre wear - obviously Hulkenberg in quali has shown the possible potential). He has been consistently racing with the Alfa’s, not consistently beating them, and we haven’t seen anything to seriously favour either of them over the other. (Alfa had that one great quali at Hungary but it was back to regular programming in the race).

In fact I’d probably say Haas has been the worst car in race trim - they actually haven’t scored a point since Miami, 8 races ago.

He’s performed well - but not comparable to Albon/Hulkenberg.

Perez is letting Max dominate in a way it has never seen before. This is ridiculous from a driver with more than 10 years of experience.

Sainz and Leclerc having very similar results with good performance but bad car pace or strategy, can't really blame them on almost anything.

Hulkenberg way over Magnussen, such a shame the Haas race pace.

Stroll had the excuse to be injured the first four races, but not anymore.

Holy crap it's race week.

Let's restart this threads with some more questions.

1. As it stands there are 5 podium-worthy cars on the grid depending on the track and conditions. Will McLaren be able to catch to the others in the standings? Will Aston Martin's fixed upgrade be enough to put them back ahead of the others? Will Lance or Oscar score a podium this year?

2. Speaking of those standings, who do you think will win the battle for 3rd in the driver's standing? In fact, will Lewis and Fernando be able to challenge Checo? Also, will Charles be able to secure 5th place this year?

3. Of the bottom 4 teams (Williams, Haas, Alfa Romeo, AlphaTauri) who will finish on top? Haas has said they've may have improved their tire wear issues, but frankly I won't believe anything until they can show that car can complete more than 100 km without murdering its tires. Williams has waiting all year for Monza, will Logan be able to score his first points of the season in the second half?

4. Want to include all the teams in a question soooooo, how many DNFs will Alpine have in the second half of the season?

And bonus question: With 3 race weekends left, who do you think will win Formula 2 this year?

Annnnd Ricciardo broke his wrist and Liam Lawson will be making his F1 debut
Yeah ugh I just have a feeling things won’t fall his way. I’m happy to see a Kiwi getting the seat time if anyone though. In racing at least they’re like a second country to root for (for an Aussie).

Hate that it had to be Aussie/Aussie crash too smh.

MVP of quali was obviously Albon but gdi I did an actual fist pump when Sargeant made Q3. rip that it didn’t work out so well there but good on him. Still I think is he the only driver who hasn’t outqualified his teammate this year?

Also lol Hamilton. Hopefully we see an interesting drive from him tomorrow. Think there is a chance of rain tomorrow so hopefully that follows through - wet races = best races.

How does Mercedes consistently send out their drivers at bad times in quali, like its ridiculous how much they shoot themselves in the foot with the simplest things. Their pit spots suck, they panic every time there's a safety car, and they can't even get a clean run for their drivers, its insane. Anyways props to Williams, very cool.

Wow what a race - even though it ended up with the (almost inevitable) winner it was an amazing journey.

Red Bull did great getting Checo in lap 1 but god it pissed me off so much they wronged him with the switch back to softs. Horner you’re a massive dick. Alonso just brilliant, showed us again why he’s the smartest driver in the field and had the pace to back it up. Was extremely surprised watching the broadcast - Gasly wasn’t even in the top 3 voting for DotD. WTF?! Clear best for me - very aggressive moves early on and great job switching to inters lap 1. Wonderful defence against Sainz early on and I honestly thought he was no chance to come back past him later but damn did he prove me wrong. Amazing work for Alpine getting a double points finish and both drivers with podiums this year - if the race hadn’t been red flagged Ocon would’ve jumped up too.

Just horrible strat early on from Merc and McLaren. The hard tyre gamble also didn’t end up working for Russell - he was lucky the rain came again. Good recoveries from the other 3 though. lol Ferrari. rip LeClerc. Sainz - can’t believe he lost out to Alonso after slow pitstop - Gasly after his penalty and Perez after his penalty with only a few laps after the SC. Sad showing for them allround, they should be very happy with where Sainz ended up.

Albon - damn that staying on soft strat seemed to be working decently for him he’s great but yeah ultimately lost out in the end with the weather and Williams not quite as fast to react - he’s still having a wonderful season and quality points again. Tsunoda showed good pace again - massive bungle by whoever was running his strategy ruined that though, and yet another penalty? (surely he’s leading this year). Lawson had a nice quiet race, ran last for most of it, not unexpectedly - ended up ahead of a few cars including Tsunoda with the rain shenanigans at the end. (I’m angrily imagining how Ricciardo might have threaded his way through the chaos though)

Not much to say on Alfa and Haas. Zhou and Magnussen timed their early rain stops right but both teams just had 0 pace - unless racing a crippled Ferrari.

Good for Ferrari. But yeah hard to have any optimism Verstappen will be toppled - hopefully we have a good race. Albon, Alonso and Hulkenberg all clearly outstripping their teammates in Quali again. Alpha Tauri on the pace this weekend, Alpine not. Looking forward to an interesting race after work tonight.

Relatively mundane result - but some fantastic racing in there.

I think everyone except Leclerc fans was rooting for Sainz there at the end, he’d done such a good job against both Red Bulls, in comparison Perez’s pass on Leclerc seemed super easy. Kinda sad how both the Mercedes penalties had zero repercussions in the end for either driver - honestly Russell’s was never going to matter even if he gave back the spot but Hamilton’s was just him being a dick and ruining Piastri’s race. Was really hoping he wasn’t going to get that 5s buffer. Albon was again absolutely fantastic with a car that seemed to be very hard on its tyres, continues to easily be the breakout driver of the year for mine. Alonso did well managing his tyres and looked to be coming good at the end but Albon’s defense and Norris having DRS kinda ended that. Great quiet job from Bottas to snag a point thanks to Hamilton. Alpine with an awful weekend only surpassed by Haas who again showed their awful tyre degradation to its fullest. rip Tsunoda - solid drive from Lawson.

Edit: Almost forgot congrats of course due to Verstappen for setting the record for most consecutive wins, extremely impressive. Was also nice to see him have a good fight at the start.

Well well well. Singapore struggles for Red Bull. Looks like we could have a non Red Bull winner finally. Verstappen 11th plus probably a penalty for impeding coming his way. Great job by Lawson to make the 10. Haas was also excellent, Magnussen outqualifying Hulkenberg was surprising but yeah we all know they’re going backwards in the race. Albon well off the pace in Q2 at least sadly. Ferrari vs Merc vs McLaren fun for tomorrow! And never count Alonso out ofc.

rip Piastri unlucky with the Stroll incident and rip Tsunoda too.

Great work from Sainz all race really. Very smart with his handling of Norris and the Mercs. Really thought Ferrari (especially LeClerc - he had a pitstop over the next car) botched it not coming in but they managed to hold on. Verstappen especially ending up much higher than it looked at one stage - just think Verstappen and Perez came in for their tyres only a couple laps before the VSC didn’t they?

With Red Bull not having a great car you could still see how great a driver Verstappen is relative to those around him.

Shoutouts to Gasly (feel so bad for Ocon), Lawson! and Piastri. Apparently when Albon pitted under VSC he and Perez crossed their lines at the exact same time like literally exact idk about that but yeah Albon ended up ahead. They had contact later but no positions lost for Perez after the 5s penalty.

Super happy to see Red Bull dominance broken, even if it is by a Ferrari.

Can't help but feel like Lewis would have at least caught Norris in the final stint if he was the lead Mercedes. Disheartened by how Leclerc has looked since the summer break, just doesn't seem to connect with the car. Shockingly awful job by the Red Bull outfit this weekend -- Max deserved more punishment for the blocking during qualification and Perez got away with murder during the race. Ruined Yuki and Albon's races and only got 5 seconds.

Forgit to post this last night but yeah seems we’re back to the status quo again.

6 tenths bro. Insane gap. Looks like the MacLarens will be fighting the Ferrari’s and Perez for the podium, Mercs should fight each other (just don’t seem to have the pace) and Alonso will fight Alpha Tauri and mmmmmmmaybe Alpine/Albon for the end of the points.

Piastri already basically a top 5 Aussie F1 driver? Only others to qualify on the front row are Brabham, Jones, Webber and Ricciardo.

Lawson still contracted with Red Bull in general - but with confirmation of Tsunoda/Ricciardo as AT’s drivers next year sadly he still might not get a seat despite the clear ability he has. I wouldn’t be jumping ship at this point for anyone but one of the top 5 (RB, Ferrari, Mercedes, MacLaren, Aston) teams, and they’re all locked up for next year (bloody Stroll)

And…. back to our usual programming. Not much to say about Verstappen’s race, basically perfect with a slightly slow start compared to the McLarens. Piastri is able to match Norris in quali but was well off in race pace - obviously still a rookie and much room to improve. Congrats on the first podium of many to come!

Ferrari - solid not spectacular from LeClerc, Sainz just kinda screwed by not coming in earlier, think they had Hamilton covered tbh if they pit the lap right after. At Merc, George gets shafted.. was a bold strategy call from him to go for the one stopper but sadly too bold. If it was any other driver Hamilton gets a penalty for sure. Alonso had an excellent start and got stuffed by the early stop, but really it was Ocon who ruined it all - I don’t think he could’ve ran with the Mercs all race though. Good stuff from Alpine, double points despite both cars starting outside the 10. Great stuff from Lawson again, fighting with Tsunoda lap 1 and managing to hold him off at the end, his stock just keeps improving. Zhou did excellent to finish ahead of the Haas guys despite that lap 1 damage. Haas was just **** in race pce yet again. Unlucky for Albon and Bottas and heck even Stroll, (not sure what happened with his rear wing, but he probably could’ve fought with the Alpines/Alpha Tauris).

Perez seriously??! Like the lap 1 thing was a whatever racing incident but come on. That move? On a Haas? REALLY?!

And screw Sargeant he sucks ass. Wish they had a decent US driver in F1 like Newgarden (the only option really but never gonna happen).

That was almost the most shocking moment in F1 this year. Sargeant almost outqualified Albon.
If it wasn’t for him crossing the pit entry line in Jeddah, I think Sargeant would’ve been faster there. But anyways, weird time for McLaren and Ferrari felt like they went off every lap, but good for Mercedes I guess. Checo missing Q3 again is just so disappointing. As great as he is, Lewis has no business being this close to P2 in the championship considering the strength of the RB19, but here we are.
