  • With its unique typing, Mamoswine offers role compression that allows it to check both Metagross and Tyranitar with its coveted Ground-type coverage and Latias with its Ice-type STAB attacks. The downside is that Mamoswine has a middling Speed tier, which forces it to run a Jolly nature, which then leaves it weaker and not always capable of checking what it wants check, especially as it doesn't have access to a powerful Ice-type attack. Its offensive shortcomings, vulnerability to Intimidate, and plethora of weaknesses to common attack types makes it hard to fit on teams, which may defer to other Ground-types such as Rhyperior and Swampert, or different Latias checks such as Choice Scarf Tyranitar.
  • Earthquake OHKOs Raikou and Heatran and 2HKOs Tyranitar and Metagross. Ice Shard circumvents Latias's higher Speed tier and 2HKOs it. Stone Edge 2HKOs Gyarados, which takes negligible damage from Mamoswine's STAB attacks.
  • Mamoswine may opt into several different options over Stone Edge: Stealth Rock grants it some utility and chips foes to put it in range of its teammates' or own attacks at the cost of being able to hit Gyarados; Superpower guarantees an OHKO on Tyranitar, which already takes significant damage from Earthquake, and Ice Fang OHKOs Latias, although there are RARELY opportunities Mamoswine would ever get to Ice Fang it, as Latias can just OHKO it with Draco Meteor first.
  • Mamoswine needs a Jolly nature to guarantee it outspeeds max Speed Heatran and Jolly 252 Spe Metagross.
  • Mamoswine is weak to many common attacks, so it prefers to switch in only when its safety is guaranteed, such as after a teammate fainted, letting it pick the matchups against slow Steel-types and weakened Tyranitar that it wants.
  • Electric-types such as Rotom-A and Zapdos are Earthquake-friendly partners that can punch through the Water-types such as Gyarados and Suicune that shrug off Mamoswine's STAB attacks, with Rotom-M specifically being able to hit Swampert with Leaf Storm as well. Psychic-types such as Latias and Cresselia can respond to Fighting-types that otherwise threaten to OHKO Mamoswine, and deter Intimidate user Hitmontop from switching in. Mamoswine lacks firepower when not matched against the specific matchups it wants, so generally powerful attackers such as Metagross and Latias help power through the likes of Cresselia and Rotom-A, respectively.

A Substitute set on hail teams can be a great annoyance because of Snow Cloak, but generally lacks consistency.
  • Mamoswine needs a Jolly nature to guarantee it outspeeds Jolly 252 Spe Metagross. i think timid heatran is a more important reason to run this

The downside is that Mamoswine has a middling Speed tier, which forces it to run a Jolly nature(RC)(AP). which then This (run-on sentence) leaves it weaker and not always capable of checking what it wants to check, especially as it doesn't have access to a more powerful Ice-type attack. Its offensive shortcomings, vulnerability to Intimidate, and plethora of weaknesses to common attacking types makes it hard to fit on teams(RC) which may defer compared to other Ground-types such as Rhyperior and Swampert, or different Latias checks such as Choice Scarf Tyranitar.
  • Earthquake OHKOs OHKOes (using OHKO or NHKO as a verb should always include an "e", that applies to the other uses here as well) Raikou and Heatran and 2HKOes Tyranitar and Metagross. Ice Shard circumvents Latias's higher Speed tier and 2HKOes it. Stone Edge 2HKOes Gyarados, which takes negligible damage from Mamoswine's STAB attacks.

Move names are never used as verbs btw).
  • Mamoswine needs a Jolly nature to guarantee it outspeeds max Speed Heatran and Jolly 252 Spe Metagross. (EV numbers aren't usually used in this context, and Tran is faster than Meta anyway so this phrasing will get the same point across with less bloat)

Psychic-types such as Latias and Cresselia can respond to Fighting-types that otherwise threaten to OHKO Mamoswine(RC) and deter Intimidate user Hitmontop from switching in.
