Magnemite @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Analytic
Level: 5
EVs: 240 SpA / 236 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 1 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 SpD
- Volt Switch
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power Ground
Choice Scarf Magnemite has received a surge in usage recently, being a powerful offensive pivot that can to use its strong Special Attack to force switches and then punish the foe with an Analytic-boosted attack, while pivoting with Volt Switch to both bring a teammate in safely and grab momentum, making it a great partner for frailer Pokemon like Wingull and Diglett. After wearing down the opposing team, Magnemite can start to function as a cleaner, as its Choice Scarf lets it outspeed the unboosted metagame, letting it easily pick off the opposing team with a strong Thunderbolt or Flash Cannon. Hidden Power Ground rounds off Magnemite's coverage, as it hits Chinchou and opposing Magnemite super effectively, which resist Magnemite's STAB moves. Magnemite hates seeing Ground-types and Chinchou, as they impede with its ability to freely pivot, so Grass-types like Snivy and Foongus make for invaluable partners, with Foongus also able to deal with Fighting-types. Water-types like Staryu and Corphish can beat Ground- and Fire-types. Fighting-types threaten Magnemite, especially Timburr and Croagunk, which both carry priority, so checks to them like Vullaby, Doduo, and Abra are welcome.
