Timid Nature
- Weather Ball / Flamethrower / Fire Blast
- Solar Beam
- Scorching Sands / Focus Blast
- Roost
[SET COMMENTS]
Mega Charizard Y stands out as a powerful wallbreaker thanks to its high Special Attack and its ability, Drought. Weather Ball is recommended for its high damage, perfect accuracy, and ability to pressure rain teams by doing magnificent damage to Pelipper in rain. Flamethrower is a great alternative, allowing Mega Charizard Y to maintain its STAB move outside of sun, but at the cost of being slightly weaker than Weather Ball. Fire Blast is less reliable due to its accuracy but serves as a powerful nuke, capable of OHKOing Gliscor after Stealth Rock and guaranteeing a 2HKO against Galarian Slowking and Garchomp. Roost lets Mega Charizard Y heal off potential Stealth Rock damage and act as a soft check to Mega Scizor and Rillaboom. Under sun, Solar Beam hits instantly and provides excellent coverage to obliterate bulky Water-types such as Alomomola, Rotom-W, and Slowbro. Scorching Sands 2HKOes Heatran and pressures Toxapex, Gouging Fire, and Raging Bolt while also having the chance to burn threats that can switch into Mega Charizard Y's moves, like Garchomp and Mega Tyranitar. Focus Blast enables Mega Charizard Y to OHKO Mega Tyranitar while still allowing it to hit Heatran effectively, but its poor accuracy and ineffectiveness against Toxapex make it a less recommended choice. Entry hazard removers like Great Tusk, Kartana, and Landorus-T allow Mega Charizard Y to come in more often, as it is incredibly weak to Stealth Rock; Great Tusk in particular benefits from sun thanks to Protosynthesis boosting its Attack, letting it break past foes like Mega Latias and Dragonite for Mega Charizard Y more easily. Mega Charizard Y’s mediocre Speed and below-average bulk leave it vulnerable to revenge killers like Mega Diancie, Mega Lopunny, and Garchomp. Therefore, defensive switch-ins such as Great Tusk, Alomomola, Landorus-T, Gliscor, and Galarian Slowking create great synergy with Mega Charizard Y. Weavile is a fantastic partner for its ability to beat Dragon-types such as Mega Latias, Garchomp, and Dragonite; it also appreciates Mega Charizard Y forcing foes like Alomomola to Tera Dragon. Raging Bolt also serves as an excellent partner, benefiting from Mega Charizard Y's Drought with Protosynthesis, which boosts its Special Attack, allowing it to break through Pokemon like Garganacl more easily.
