a loser
I'm a loser, baby, so why don't you kill me?
What?
Based on council discussion and community feedback, the BH Council is going to suspect test the Sleep Moves Clause. If implemented, all sleep inducing moves will be banned from Balanced Hackmons. If not, the Sleep Clause Mod will remain in place.
Why?
Sleep is used to completely shut down opponents for one to three turns and is largely seen as uncompetitive. Popular sleep inducing moves include Spore and Lovely Kiss, which are commonly seen on setup sweepers like Eternatus, Poison Heal Xerneas, and Triage users like Yveltal and Rayquaza. Spore is 100% accurate and is only denied by Grass-types, Safety Goggles, Magic Bounce and niche abilities. Lovely Kiss is 75% accurate but works on Grass-types and Safety Goggles users. Putting foes to sleep takes control away from the opponent and allows the sleep setter free turns to use setup moves and/or take down opposing mons.
The Sleep Clause Mod currently limits teams to putting one opposing mon to sleep at a time. This prevents players from being completely shut down by sleep spamming teams and provides an avenue to potentially play around sleep setters. However, this still means that one mon must be sacrificed to the sleep move, making it unavailable for reliable use later on. Plus, nothing is stopping the sleep setter from just attacking and taking out the mon that baits the sleep move.
Recently, there has been a rise of sleep inducing moves paired with partial trapping moves like Thunder Cage and Magma Storm on strong attackers like Eternatus, Xerneas, and Triage users. Not only do these moves trap foes to prevent switching to a sleep sack, but they hit for residual damage all while the trapped foe is unable to move due to sleep.
There are other methods of preventing sleep setters from getting out of hand, including but not limited to: Poison Heal, Magic Bounce, Safety Goggles, Misty/Electric Terrain, Guts, Comatose, and Taunt. However, using these methods to prevent sleep does not guarantee that the sleep setter will be defeated, as they can still use setup moves and attacks.
How?
- We will be using the new suspect process laid out by Zarel here (aka no COIL).
- The voting requirements are a minimum GXE of 82 with at least 30 games played.
- Do so by making a new alt with the prefix “sleep”. For example I could register the alt "sleep all day"
- The alt must have a creation date on or after September 29, 2021
You must post your proof of reqs in this thread and play your games on the main pokemonshowdown.com sim.
Sleep inducing moves will be allowed in the ladder for the duration of this suspect; I would recommend using them as much as you can to get a feel of how they are in the meta and have a good idea of if they are broken/unhealthy or if they are perfectly manageable after all.
Do:
- Post your proof of reqs and, if you wish, your stance on the matter briefly, in this thread. Read the following CAREFULLY on how to do so:
- Post in this thread if you have any questions about THIS SUSPECT PROCESS.
Do NOT:
- Post your stance on the matter in this thread without proof of requirements (This should be posted in the main thread instead)
- Post anything in this thread unrelated to this suspect (with or without proof)
When?
This suspect period will last until October 13, 2021, 11:59 pm GMT-5. We will try to begin the voting process immediately after and post the Voter ID Thread similar to past suspects.
GLHF!
---
TLDR?
- 82 GXE after 30 games with a new alt
- “sleep” alt with image proof IN THIS THREAD
- Sleep inducing moves ALLOWED on ladder
- DEADLINE: October 13, 2021
- This suspect test counts toward the Tiering Contributor badge!
