And one more thing:

I challenge you to a Trial by Combat!
...Well. Actually, I'm just going to ref it. You all go fight.

Trial by Combat
In ancient times, Pokemon Trainers had to be able to stand their ground without relying so greatly on their partners.
In honor of this ancient tradition, take up arms and fight in ritual battle!
...Well, sort of. We don't want anyone getting hurt, so we're letting the Trainers attack, but we're not letting anyone attack them.

Each Trainer can execute one move on any single step each round. No game effects, save for their own moves, can ever affect Trainers (their moves can still be affected, for example by weather or abilities like Sturdy). Treat all Pokemon's core stat ranks as 0 while a Trainer is acting (as though they were holding :lucky egg: Lucky Egg, without the +1 crit stage).

Orders should look as follows:

Example said:
:ursaluna: Ursaluna: Facade ~ Facade ~ Facade
Trainer: S1 - Howl
Trainers' moves can be subbed for, and the normal substitution count is increased by 1 to allow for this. Substitutions can also alter a Trainer's moves, but this comes out of the same pool of substitutions (they don't get to write 5 separate subs for their one move per round.)

When sending in, choose a class for your Trainer from the options below. Each class learns several moves, obeying the normal battle level restrictions; they also have a Speed stat, which determines turn order as normal.

Speed 85

Level 0:
Howl
Slash

Level 1:
Bone Club
Payback
Roar

Level 2:
Low Kick
Scary Face

Level 3:
Knock Off
Pounce

Level 4:
Collision Course
Mean Look
Speed 60

Level 0:
Confide
Dazzling Gleam

Level 1:
Ember
Psybeam
Will o' Wisp

Level 2:
Misty Terrain
Psychic Terrain

Level 3:
Eerie Spell
Mystical Fire

Level 4:
Gravity
Prismatic Laser
Speed 115

Level 0:
Feint Attack
Mud-Slap

Level 1:
Flatter
Fake Out
Sucker Punch

Level 2:
Thief
Quash

Level 3:
Flower Trick
Lunge

Level 4:
Embargo
Last Resort

If people like the format, I'll add more classes.

Custom formats are fun. Here's a low effort one:

Bonus Abilities
The first time you send out each Pokemon, declare 1 of the following abilities. That Pokemon gains that ability's effects for the rest of the battle (even if it leaves play).
Each Trainer can only declare each ability once per match.
(It doesn't actually have the ability, so effects like Neutralizing Gas or Skill Swap won't affect it.)

- Emergency Exit
- Frisk
- Guts
- Innards Out
- Magic Guard
- Prankster
- Protean
- Shadow Shield
- Speed Boost
- Unaware

I'll make my level 1 challenge be that.

letting the demons win

Low Accuracy Cup
Level 2, b5p3. This is Level 2 partly because that's when everyone gets their low accuracy moves and partly because I want to torture experienced players.

All accuracy checks with more than an 80% chance to succeed, automatically fail.

(Moves that skip accuracy checks altogether, like Shock Wave and Confide, will still always hit. However, moves with 100% accuracy, like Earthquake, will always miss.)

Sand Veil, Snow Cloak, Smoke Ball, and anything else I'm forgetting have no effect.

Combinations have the lowest accuracy of their component moves, instead of the highest accuracy. (Note that "---" is still the absence of Accuracy, so Confide + Yawn would have 100% accuracy and thus always miss.)

Muscle Band and Wise Glasses have the following effect text (of course with physical attack replaced with special attack for Wise Glasses):
"A colorful band that facilitates blood flow to the muscles when worn.

The Attack rank of the holder is increased by five (5).

While the holder is performing a physical attack: The holder's Accuracy stage is decreased by two (2)."
All Pokemon have access to the custom command Un-Aim:
Un-Aim
Type: None | Category: Other | Target: User | BAP: -- | Acc: -- | EN Cost: 5 | Effect%: -- | Priority: 0 | Combo Lv.: None (--)

The user carelessly observes the battlefield, calculating where they should not be to make their next move.

If the user has remaining Recoveries: The user heals fifteen (15) HP, as a Recovery.

Lower the user's Accuracy stage by two (2) for their next six (6) turns.

I'll take you on, Dylando. Sending in to Fort Colorcastle.

Also issuing a new challenge:

Format: B5P3 Level 2 Singles
Default Rules

Special Rule - Momentum:
At the end of each Pokemon's turn, if that Pokemon attempted a Physical attack on their turn, place one (1) Momentum marker on that Pokemon, up to maximum of six (6) such markers, until they faint. At the end of each Pokemon's turn, if that Pokemon, since they've entered play, has gone two turns without attempting a Physical attack, remove all momentum markers from that Pokemon.

All Pokemon gain the following (cumulative) benefits, based on the number of Momentum markers they have.
If >= 1: While the Pokemon is attacking with a Physical attack, give that attack a power bonus equal to the number of Momentum markers they have.
If >= 2: While the Pokemon is attacking with a Physical attack, their Accuracy stage is increased by one (1).
If >= 4: While the Pokemon is attacking with a Physical attack, ignore the target's abilities.

I had this super cool idea. Let's see if people like it.

Special Rule: HP is EN
B5P3 Level 2+ Singles
All other rules are default

In addition...
  • All Pokémon have no Energy. ("No Energy" is not the same as "0 Energy".)
  • All Pokémon start with one and a half times (1.5x) their normal amount of HP, rounded down. (Ex: Slowpoke normally has 95 HP, so with this rule, it will start with 142 HP instead.)
  • Any effects that cost Energy will instead cost HP. (Ex: Slowpoke uses Confusion which normally costs 3 Energy, but with this rule, it will cost 3 HP instead.)
  • Any effects that recover Energy will instead recover HP. (Ex: Slowpoke uses Chill which normally recovers 12 Energy, but with this rule, it will recover 12 HP instead.)
  • Any effects that refer to Energy will instead refer to HP. (Ex: Pressure compares the Energy of the user and their attacker, but with this rule, it will compare the HP of the user and their attacker instead.)

This'll probably favor Pokémon with high HP, but I wonder what other interesting things could be done.
