[SET COMMENTS]
Alolan Ninetales is the tier's only viable Hail setter, functioning as a strong support member on Hail teams while providing a solid resistance to Dark to help with Ash-Greninja. It can set hail throughout the game because of its respectable Speed tier that lets it outspeed the likes of Garchomp, Hydreigon, and Landorus-T and its good support movepool that consists of options such as Pain Split and Aurora Veil. However, Alolan Ninetales is extremely weak and has terrible bulk, which is further exacerbated by its horrid Stealth Rock weakness. Furthermore, its extreme passivity allows threats such as Mega Medicham and Heatran to switch in for free. Aurora Veil allows Alolan Ninetales to provide increased opportunities to switch in for teammates like Arctozolt, as well as let partners like Volcanion and Corviknight more comfortably check threats such as Heatran and Mega Medicham. Pain Split serves the dual purpose of providing Alolan Ninetales with a form of recovery to aid its poor longevity so that it can more consistently provide Hail support and wearing down bulkier teams due to its low HP stat. Encore prevents threats like Mega Latias and Clefable from taking advantage of its passivity, as well as letting teammates like Arctozolt, Volcanion, and Mega Diancie switch in unpunished. Freeze-Dry is a solid STAB option that allows Alolan Ninetales to threaten Ground- and Water-types and prevent the likes of Gastrodon, Pelipper, and Gliscor from completely taking advantage of it. It also allows you to win the weather war against Pelipper and generally pressure rain teams hard.
Alolan Ninetales works best on hail teams, so Arctozolt is its premier partner, as it can make use of the hail to annihilate unprepared teams. Arctozolt also appreciates Alolan Ninetales luring and weakening Gastrodon for it, as well as providing safer opportunities to switch in through Encore and Aurora Veil. Due to its susceptibility to being taken advantage of by Steel-types like Ferrothorn, Heatran, and Mega Scizor, strong Fire- and Ground-types such as Landorus-T, Volcanion, and Heatran are solid partners. Volcanion in particular checks Ash-Greninja together with Alolan Ninetales thanks to its immunity to Water. Finally, Alolan Ninetales's severe weakness to Stealth Rock basically mandates extremely strong entry hazard control. As such, Pokemon like Corviknight and Mega Diancie work really well with it.

Other Options
=============
A set utilizing Nasty Plot alongside Blizzard and Moonblast turns Alolan Ninetales into an offensive threat. However, it's typically not worth forgoing the defensive utility to run this set, as it still cannot break through threats like Mega Scizor, Heatran, and Galarian Slowking, and hail teams usually pack more than enough offensive pressure. A set dedicated to setting Aurora Veil can be used on hyper offense teams, as Alolan Ninetales can provide immediate dual screens support unlike other Pokemon, which have to set Light Screen and Reflect separately, but it is generally a much worse dual screens setter than Tapu Koko and Grimmsnarl, as it has no way to prevent Defog. Hypnosis is another option to punish switch-ins and provide opportunities for teammates to switch in for free, but it is highly inconsistent, and forgoing another support option is usually not worth it.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Steel-types**: Alolan Ninetales is unable to threaten Steel-types such as Mega Scizor, Ferrothorn, Melmetal, and Corviknight out, and all of them either use it as setup fodder or threaten a heavy hit on whatever switches in. Ferrothorn can take advantage of Alolan Ninetales's passivity and set up entry hazards on it, while Corviknight can use it to generate momentum, bringing another Pokemon in for free.
**Fire-types**: Mega Charizard Y, Heatran, Volcarona, and others easily threaten Alolan Ninetales out with their STAB moves and use it as setup fodder due to its inability to hit them back. In particular, Mega Charizard Y is an extremely strong check, as it also replaces hail and prevents Alolan Ninetales from setting Aurora Veil.
**Mega Tyranitar and Tyranitar** Both Tyranitar and Mega Tyranitar have immense special bulk under Sand and underspeed Alolan Ninetales, so they will always win the weather war and threaten it out with a Stone Edge. If Alolan Ninetales switches out, Tyranitar can Pursuit trap it, cutting deeply into its HP.
