[OVERVIEW]
Aerodactyl is one of the fastest Pokemon in NU, and it has a high Attack stat. It also has a good offensive type and coverage moves that let it hit a large part of the metagame super effectively. This makes it check offensive Pokemon that rely on their Speed like Salazzle, Talonflame, Heliolisk, and Sneasel. Aerodactyl's utility moves along with its Speed enable it to almost always use Stealth Rock or use Toxic to cripple walls, and the Pokemon that counter status moves like Xatu lose to Aerodactyl's moves. Aerodactyl's biggest weakness is its weak defensive typing and low defensive stats. It is prone to being OHKOed by any attack that it is weak to, and because of its poor defensive typing it loses to Pokemon like Rotom-Mow, Diancie, and Water-types. Its typing also renders it weak to Stealth Rock, which makes it much harder for it switch into battle safely.

Aerodactyl can break through a lot of walls in NU because of its Attack paired with a Life Orb. Earthquake is a very strong move that hits some of Aerodactyl's weaknesses like Electric-types, Rock-types like Diancie, and Steel-types. Stone Edge is a very strong STAB, and is also hits common Pokemon like Talonflame and Xatu. Aqua Tail compresses the Pokemon Aerodactyl can hit super effectively into one moveslot, letting it hit Ground-types, Talonflame, Salazzle, and Diancie super effectively. Roost lets Aerodactyl stay in the battle for longer, and it gets rid of chip damage. This is especially helpful because Life Orb is constantly dealing damage to Aerodactyl.
Aerodactyl pairs well with any Ground type that can take an Electric-type or Rock-type move. Aerodactyl is also a good ally for Rotom-Mow, because Aerodactyl hits Fire-types and Ice-types super effectively, and Rotom-Mow resists Electric-type moves and can beat Water-types and Rock-types. Volt Switch can let Aerodactyl get into the battle safer and Volt Switch helps it break walls. Aerodactyl also benefits from Pokemon like Vileplume or Salazzle that match up well against many common Choice Scarf users like Heliolisk and Passimian. Starmie helps Aerodactyl because it resists Ice-type moves, hits Water-types super effectively, and most importantly, it uses Rapid Spin to clear Stealth Rock.

Aerodactyl's high Speed gives it the opportunity to use Stealth Rock and still be able to deal damage. Toxic lets Aerodactyl afflict status against a Pokemon that it cannot do much damage to itself and breaks down walls. Earthquake threatens opposing lead Pokemon like Diancie and Copperajah that uses Stealth Rock. Stone Edge effectively hits Pokemon that would be difficult for Aerodactyl to handle, such as Talonflame, Xatu, and other Aerodactyl. Aerodactyl can use Roost to heal, which lets it help its teammates by weakening opposing Pokemon. Heavy-Duty Boots remove Aerodactyl's Stealth Rock weakness, which makes it easier to switch in more than once.
Stealth Rock chips the opposing team which helps sweepers like Talonflame, Salazzle, and Rotom-Mow break through teams easier. Because of Aerodactyl's weakness to Electric-type moves, a Ground-type is useful as a switch-in, although once switched out Aerodactyl is difficult to switch back in safely. Pokemon like Silvally-Ground can be a Ground switch-in while also providing a switch back into battle with Parting Shot. Toxic can weaken bulky Pokemon and let wallbreakers like Sirfetch'd finish off the opposing Pokemon.

Other Options
====
A Choice Band set with moves like Iron Head and Dual Wingbeat can be run to do a lot of damage, but not being able to switch moves is a big weakness. Focus Sash can be used with a utility moveset to let Aerodactyl be guaranteed to live one attack.
Checks and Counters
====
**Electric-types**: Rotom-Mow can use a Choice Scarf, letting it outspeed and OHKO Aerodactyl. Other Electric-types like Heliolisk always OHKO Aerodactyl, although they risk getting hit by Earthquake if they switch in.
**Water-types**: Aerodactyl has no good way to hit Water-types, so Vaporeon, Blastoise, Kingdra, Inteleon, and Quagsire all can beat it. Vaporeon and Quagsire have high physical bulk, which makes Aerodactyl unable to do much to them.
**Choice Scarf Users**: Any Pokemon that outspeeds Aerodactyl with a Choice Scarf can usually just OHKO it with a super effective coverage move, which lets Pokemon like Heliolisk and Indeedee-F check it.
