Introduction
A. Explain what a massive mass outbreak (MMO) is and include the prerequisites
B. Explain the differences between a MMO and a regular mass outbreak (MO). Example: MOs can be refreshed upon returning to the village, while MMOs can't
C. Introduce ghost spawning (May be switched to a different part)

I. What the MMO icons mean
A. Berry icon
B. Star icon (Evolution and/or alpha outbreaks)

II. The mechanics of MMOs (moved to another section)
A, How long the rainstorm/blizzard lasts and what each pop-up means

III. Elaborate on ghost spawning/permutations
A. How ghost spawns (GS) can be exploited
B. The mechanics behind GSs and what they mean (NOTE TO SELF: play the game and test this out before finalizing)
C. Step-by-step tutorial

IV. Conclusion

A CFW-Less Guide to Massive Mass Outbreaks and Ghost Spawning

As of the Ver. 1.1.0 Daybreak update in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, a new type of Mass Outbreak has been discovered. After beating the main storyline and seeing the game's credits, a new series of quests will begin, leading to the discovery of Massive Mass Outbreaks, or MMOs. This new kind of outbreak functions differently than the standard Mass Outbreak, or MOs, as the swarms are capable of re-appearing with a fresh pool of evolved or alpha Pokemon, or even both.

MMOs only last for as long as the rainstorm or blizzard lasts; once the storm ends, all outbreaks disappear. There will be multiple warnings before the storm clears up, and as such, you should make the most of your time in the area while the storm is still going on. The exact amount of time a rainstorm or blizzard will go on does not seem to be set in stone.

Unlike regular MOs, there will be many different outbreaks all at once; it is impossible to go through all of them before the storm clears up, unless you save and reload beforehand. It is wise to pay Munchlax five Aguav Berries before doing anything other than saving, as you won't have to waste your time flying around. Sometimes. there will be a berry or star icon next to the portrait of the Pokemon at the outbreak. This means that the outbreak may have some additional effects, such as dropping Aguav Berries upon each KO or capture, or the potential for evolution and/or alpha spawns.

Permutations

It it possible to influence the second wave of a star-marked outbreak by KOing or capturing Pokemon in a specific order. The first wave, on the other hand, can also be manipulated by KOing Pokemon in a similar fashion, but this does not affect the initial four spawns. This means that KOing or capturing Pokemon in different orders can lead to different spawns. For example, if I were to catch the first four Pokemon in an outbreak at a time, I would get a different combination of spawns than I would have if I KOed them all at once in a multi battle.

Commenting as I'm currently giving these instructions a try.

First sentence I'm wondering about is if " Once you've entered the area, but before you make your way over to the site, save the game. " could perhaps be reworded to indicate a location to save as I had to read a few times to figure out this probably meant as soon as you re-arrive back in camp from Jubilife Village save before leaving for the outbreak.

Also it just check on arrival or can you KO one/all of what you see before returning to camp?

Something else is when you're checking the first four Pokemon in an outbreak. How far away should you stay? I've been doing Drifloon and not triggering 'you have found the outbreak' message but I'm not sure if that's the right approach. Also what happens when you do trigger the message, does it have any effect that you need to be aware of? Did try doing this method with Buneary and I kept triggering the message so I'm wondering.

May come back to this but that's my initial thoughts for now.

I added the information that you were looking for, as well as rewording the sentence you mentioned. And yes, checking on arrival is the quickest way to find a shiny. You do not need to trigger the message either in order to re-roll the Pokemon next time around.

Thanks for your input, by the way. I'll let QC see if there's anything else I need to add, elaborate on, or remove.

Tried this again and there's some other stuff I'm not sure of that might be worth adding.

If you get a shiny within the first few of an outbreak can you go back to camp, save and go back to the outbreak and then are able to continue with the rest of the method or do you clear the rest of the outbreak and that's it?

I've tried both the check four from a distance method and the battle/catch each Pokemon in the outbreak individually until it ends and the latter is faster. Wondering if both are worth including as it's basically the same method with saving and Jubilife Village?

Edit: Forgot to add that perhaps a quick explanation of why you're going to and from from Jubilife might be an idea?

Sorry but I've been experimenting and asking questions on the wifi discord again so I'm afraid there's some more things:

* Autosave needs to be off for this to work.
* Checking the initial four and then going into the reset method if there's nothing in that four is quite slow (spent nearly 2 hours doing this without any sucess) so maybe consider adding in the information about checking the entire outbreak before going into the reset method. Think how far you have gotten in the story will affect which method to choose as having Braviary unlocked should speed up getting to the outbreak location especially in the Highlands. Might be worth testing this as not everyone will have the patience for the four check method.
* Species reaction will need adding as it affects how you deal with the outbreak ie chase off, catch, battle etc if using the check everything method.
* Tied to the above point is that if you have to battle then you must only KO one Pokemon at a time. This includes where you're dragged into multi battles as you KO one and then run from the others. If you do KO multiples then it will skip a spawn and possibly a shiny/alpha.
* It's possible to do the reset method after finding a shiny, going back to camp, saving, going back to the outbreak and checking but the size of the rest of the outbreak will reduce.
* If the outbreak spawn point is mixed in with another species eg Buneary is with the Zubat/Wurple lines can you KO the other Pokemon if it's in the way and being agro without affecting anything. Also what about item drops.
* There's a 20 % chance of the outbreak changing when you jump back to Jubilife
* Got referred to a flowchart for this method but there's no source so perhaps a DIY one is an idea

Here from Discord: Hare suggested point out that how anecdotally, I have noticed that it's a lot easier to 'reroll' the species of an existing outbreak than it is to spawn a new one from nothing. Not sure if that's actually true or just a bias, but potentially worth looking into.

Also want to clarify what Hare said about skipping spawns. That by itself isn't inherently bad, since the new spawn is just as likely to be shiny/alpha as the one you skipped, however a problem arises when you continue hunting from the next outbreak. Let's say you spawn an outbreak and catch mons 1,2,3,4,5,6 but then skip spawns 7,8,9,10 and catch 11,12,13,14,15,16. If there's no shiny and you proceed to 'reroll' the outbreak, when you go back you will encounter spawns starting from 12 regardless of whether or not you skipped some spawns. In this example, you would encounter spawns 12,13,14,15,16 twice, which is just a waste of time.

Reposting as promised. Ik you've got stuff going on so can obv deal with it when you can.

Definitely worth a description of the timeline method that hare and rain talked about, since it is popular among hunters and works well.

The odds of finding a shiny Pokemon spawned in a mass outbreak are increased twenty-fivefold from the base 1/4096 odds, leaving you with a roughly 1/582 chance of shininess.
Think you misread the table. ~1/586 are the odds of lvl 10 + perfect + charm. Base outbreak odds are ~1/158.

Pokemon spawned by mass outbreaks are also capable of being spawned as alpha Pokemon. The chances vary between 0.2% to 2%, just like any other Pokemon, depending on your number of stars obtained and the Pokemon's research level.
Not a perfect source but clicking around on serebii seems to indicate that it's only 1% from outbreaks. The range seems to be on normal spawns, and I haven't seen any indication that it's related to the stars or research level. Might want to get confirmation on this.

Couple other things that might be good additions.

In the thread of that second tweet, but just kinda fyi it seems like outbreaks are gated behind story progression.

All I have for the moment, esp considering I haven't dealt with these much. Tagging for visibility in case you guys know of or want to add anything/anyone. (May also be able to ask around on discord more if need be.). Thanks guys!

Outbreak alphas have 1/101 rate. The reason for the weird fractions on Serebii is the denominator is a sum of total slots which doesn't add up to 100.

Probably worth noting that outbreaks always spawn 10-15 Pokemon.

Triggering the outbreak message doesn't matter.

A lot of people are clearing out all the mons so they can see more of them per Jubilife trip; in many cases, it's faster to spend a few minutes to see 6-11 more mons than to take a new trip which only gives you 4 more. If clearing them out is being used as the method, it's important to note that you shouldn't enter a battle and clear (defeat or KO) more than 1 mon at a time because it causes you to see more duplicates with later trips. Anything that removes a mon individually is fine.

Here's an example of this in action. I found an outbreak of 12 Zorua and sampled them across 3 separate rounds. The top 3 are from clearing them 1 by 1. The bottom 3 are by clearing them 4 at a time. Mons are roughly colored by the batches they appeared in. Notice that with the 4 at a time approach, each new trip only gave 4 new spawns to look at.

Hmm... the fact that the alpha odds in outbreaks are 1/101 instead of 1/100 is interesting to me. I added and edited some stuff, and I'll make a flowchart somehow later.

Would y'all like me to cite my sources? If so, which format shall I use?

Credit should always be given where due, but we aren't so formal that you need to have in-text parenthetical citations after everything you say. Format is up to you. Linking to the tweet like you did is fine (not amazing for legacy reasons, but it's ok), otherwise you could have an acknowledgements and credits section at the end, for example, where things are a little more generic. I.e. credit to anubis for the shiny odds and mechanic research. Or w/e names/wording you see fit.

The new MMO permutation method + ghost spawning stuff could certainly use a good written guide if you want to redirect your efforts. As far as I can tell, this guide doesn't have much application anymore on the recent patches.

Afaik, most of the permutation stuff is still "Watch AJP's videos and find a table to use". Ghost spawning is a more recent finding that I don't believe he covered anywhere. Denvoros has slowly added this new information to the guide Hare_vs_Tortoise linked.

You could technically permute MOs too, but it's more limited since you don't get infinite batches of new mons and I don't know of a table out there for permuting that many spawns.

It's a fairly different endeavor so I understand if it's too much to completely start over.

Oh crud, I forgot this existed.

May I send this back into the WIP phase? I believe it needs some more work and some additions.

EDIT: There's something I noticed, and I'd like to request some input on this.
During two separate massive mass outbreaks, I've gotten a shiny that wasn't part of the outbreak: a Starly and an alpha Shinx. Are the odds increased for Pokemon not part of the hordes/swarms/whatever?

Also, do we capitalize alpha when referring to alpha Pokemon?

I'm gonna send this back to WIP and focus on massive mass outbreaks and ghost spawning, just like Anubis suggested. I'm essentially starting over, but I'm gonna copy and paste what I have already written somewhere else in case I need to bring it back.

I assume you're going for a CFW-less guide for doing manual permutations? In the last few months, there have been a lot of developments in MO/MMO RNG that have made the original permutation methods outdated. All these methods require CFW or someone else's CFW, however, to check the seed, then permute every possibility for the answer instead of blindly trying every option on a list. Think of how people have been doing seedchecks to RNG abuse raids in SWSH, and that made the original methods of blindly date skipping out of use.

yeah... i don't have CFW, sadly, but i wish i did, i don't want to risk my console though.

edit: i’m gonna give it a shot. i’ll start testing once my switch is finished charging

Apologies for the delay.

Yeah feel free to send back to WIP, thanks!

I haven't seen any indication that the regular mons get boosted as well (and my understanding is the contrary), so I think you just got lucky. Someone can chime in if that's actually true tho.

alpha isn't capitalized in the text dump of the game, and Idt we have any standards for that (yet) so I'd say no capital on alpha.

Also this is why I'd prefer you leave out CFW stuff/mentions. CFW is really only related to RNG which is a bit out of scope for this guide (if there are manual methods, ok to mention, but this need not be a RNG guide).

Does this outline (in spoilers to make it prettier) look good to y'all? Is there anything I should change before I really get writing?

Introduction
A. Explain what a massive mass outbreak (MMO) is and include the prerequisites
B. Explain the differences between a MMO and a regular mass outbreak (MO). Example: MOs can be refreshed upon returning to the village, while MMOs can't
C. Introduce ghost spawning (May be switched to a different part)

I. What the MMO icons mean
A. Berry icon
B. Star icon (Evolution and/or alpha outbreaks)

II. The mechanics of MMOs
A, How long the rainstorm/blizzard lasts and what each pop-up means
B. Shiny/alpha hunting (If needed, make another section)

III. Elaborate on ghost spawning
A. How ghost spawns (GS) can be exploited
B. The mechanics behind GSs and what they mean (NOTE TO SELF: play the game and test this out before finalizing)
C. Step-by-step tutorial

IV. Conclusion

Both MOs and MMOs are refreshed by returning to the village.

I assume you're going to discuss permutations at some point? Ghost spawning doesn't make much sense by itself.

https://shinyhunter.club/tools/massive-mass-outbreak this tool will be of great use for the MMO section of your guide. It was made by denvoros to allow users to permute in an orderly fashion. This is applicable to species that can be mutli-battled, outlined here: https://shinyhunter.club/tools/arceus-available-pokemon-mmo .

Keep in mind that for skittish species (the ones that cannot be multibattled on their own), users will have to scare or multibattle with adjacent aggressive spawns. Oblivious species also have their own workings. It is not something I would recommend for retail users, given that permutations are extensive and scaring is very unreliable. Users with access to CFW have a terrible time even if they know they'll get the shiny after a couple of scare steps. If you still wish to touch on that, here is a CFW guide outlining the skittish spawns from easy to impossible/oblivious https://docs.google.com/document/u/...KFagKJ4XxM5_XAkJRJZiO4pBhR/pub#h.t4eq5gvtzg55

My suggestion would be to point users to mmos with high counts and second waves for the highest odds of encountering a shiny, since going through all of these steps to find nothing ought to be frustrating. Additionally, they should try to have the highest amount of shiny rolls if they'll take the time to permute through all of it. See here for the shiny rolls:
Lastly, if users somehow "break" their permutation by saving at an erroneous spot, it is important to inform that they can access backup saves on the main menu with Up + X + B. Backups are generated each time a user flies to an area, so if they pulled this save file theyd return to the same MMO map and could start anew.
