In no particular order...
Gojira - L'Enfant Sauvage
Atoma - Skylight
Ne Obliviscaris - Portal of I
Overkill - The Electric Age
Kreator - Phanton Antichrist
In Mourning - The Weight Of Oceans
State Faults - Desolate Peaks
Poets Of The Fall - Temple Of thought
Pennywise - All or Nothing
Rush - Clockwork Angels

I love the new Purity Ring. Just heard of these guys recently.

Its dreamy but not quite dull like beach fuzzy pop or chillwave.

Also, I love this ultra-hipster shit. Reminds me of Tearist.

Banned deucer.
so channel orange came out yesterday

im not one to quote critics usually but P4k gave it a ridiculous high 9.5 while fantano gave it a 7.. and my rating on 3-4 listens is definitely closer to fantanos.

2-4 Good-great tracks (thinking about you, pyramids, bad religion, pink matter) and a few average ones, and then some that are just "ehhh". I just dont really see how you can justify a 9.5. Especially with other albums that that website has rated that high

I want to get a hold of Rush's new album, Clockwork Angels. They're (In my opinion) one of the few, if the only, band(s) that's been around for more than twenty years and still puts out great music.

I also hear that there's a new album by The Killers coming (possibly) late this year, and a new Weezer album. I'm hoping for a better effort from both groups, since Day and Age (Killers) was disappointing and Hurley (Weezer) was almost heartbreaking with how bad it was compared to other Weezer works. It was still a good album, but it failed entirely compared to Rivers' earlier work.

Finally, as always, I hope for a Janne Da Arc reunion album.

i'm a little surprised by the relative lack of acclaim purity ring receives compared to grimes, but i get the feeling that might change soon

I really, really, really enjoy Marina And The Diamond's Electra Heart. It's more mainstream than her first album for sure but her voice is life and the album is amazing to me. I'm surprised it hasn't gotten a mention in this thread yet. She's released two singles from it (Primadonna and Power & Control).

they aren't my faves tho. my two favourite songs from the album are Lies and Valley of the Dolls:

Lana Del Rey - Born to Die
FLAWLESS. I regret not getting tix to see her live :(

From what I can tell no ones posted about Frank Ocean's album Channel Orange.
If you have not listened to it yet give it a go, the whole album is pretty amazing.

Sorry Mailman, you lose to generic muzak Consumer Consumption Bot Pookar.

In other news, Fiona Apple's new album with the remarkably long trying to compete with Sufjan Stevens for most unnecessary amount of words to describe music ever album of 'The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do' is pretty good and worth a listen.

Oh my god this

(Yellow & Green by Baroness)
I'm not much of a metalhead, but Baroness are a band I really like and this double album is just amazing.

New Frank Ocean and Mission of Burma are pretty good, too.

I bought four music collections from my trip, will recommend anything good I hear:

Simply Funk (4 CDs)
Cafe Zen
Motown Unremixed
Kontor Top of the Clubs Vol. 55

Really liking Channel ORANGE, "Pyramids" is great and I like "Forrest Gump" quite a bit as well. I can see it getting a little tiring though, just as with Nostalgia, Ultra. But that's ok, I think it's quite a good album nonetheless.

Baroness isn't metal.

Panopticon - Kentucky

Panopticon is a band I have been a fanboy of for quite a while. In my opinion this one man band is one of the leading voices in modern black metal, and his 2009 concept album about the fall and subsequent rebirth of civilization, Collapse, easily takes a spot in my top 10 all time black metal albums. On Kentucky, Austin Lunn promised to merge the folk music of his home state with the black metal he is known for. Did he succeed? Well... sort of. Let me start by saying this is easily the most melodic album he's ever released, the feeling being almost jovial at times, a spirit not associated often with black metal. My real gripe with this album is more about sequencing and failed expectations than with the quality of the actual songs. for the most part, lengthy black metal songs with some rather nice mellow bluegrass interludes sit next to genuine folk songs rather than a real merging of the two, and the folk then black metal then folk etc formula to the album gives it a rather blocky feel, something surprising considering the usually masterful pacing of Lunn's other works. However, don't let this deter you; the folk songs are, on the whole, well executed and the black metal is excellent as usual. Although this review might seem rather negative, please don't let it stop you from checking out this album or this band's other works, as voices this vital in modern black metal are rare. Overall, 3.5/5

Instead of just reccing something I liked I figured I would just go with a genuine album review just to change it up a bit. What else have people really liked from this year so far?
i just added this to my ipod. really looking forward to it.

as far as black metal, check out the new albums from The Great Old Ones, Woman is the Earth, Addaura and Omega Centauri. and Ne Obliviscaris but you probably know that one already.

This came out in February but I didn't see it here, so...

Imagine Dragon's EP, Continued Silence, is pretty good imo

Radioactive is my personal favorite track from it, although I like everything on it.

Just thought I'd share. :)

Good to hear because I'm quite partial to Apple, but when we're talking title length, you can't even compare The Idler Wheel... to this:

When the Pawn Hits the Conflicts He Thinks Like a King What He Knows Throws the Blows When He Goes to the Fight and He'll Win the Whole Thing 'Fore He Enters the Ring There's No Body to Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might So When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand and Remember That Depth Is the Greatest of Heights and If You Know Where You Stand, Then You Know Where to Land and If You Fall It Won't Matter, Cuz You'll Know That You're Right.

I don't want to start an argument, but I've got to disagree with you on that, and The Sweetest Curse is a good example of why: Baroness definitely play Metal, albeit Progressive Metal, throwing in flourishes of Hard Rock and Sludge Metal proficiency as well. However, this was from their previous album, Blue Record, which was a tad heavier than Yellow & Green.

Eula is one of the new tracks, and is definitely one of the softer songs they've written, definitely not Metal when listened to by itself. Viewed as a smaller portion of the bigger picture though, it works. They're experimenting with their sound, throwing in more melody and a larger focus on lyrics that are sung rather than shouted. Take My Bones Away is one of the heavier tracks on the Yellow portion of Yellow & Green, a track which reminds me of some parts of Blue Record. It seems to me like they're following in the footsteps of Progressive Metal acts such as Opeth and Mastodon, who both opted for more melodic songs than heavier material in their newest respective albums. I've extremely enjoyed what I've heard from this album, and I recommend it to any of you that like bands like Mastodon, The Sword, Red Fang, etc.

So far, this year has been extremely good in Metal. We've had new releases from Fear Factory, Lamb of God, Meshuggah, Gojira, Baroness, Overkill, Soulfly, and Prong, all of which have been exceptional (if not mind-blowingly awesome).

the problem with baroness doing the "progression" thing is most of the songs are crap, whereas opeth (excluding heritage) and mastodon actually did a good job of it.

Baroness definitely plays metal. That is, in their earlier albums. Yellow & Green are in no way metal. The album is much closer to Psych Rock, Progressive Rock, and Alternative Rock.

Baroness is not metal.

neither is most of what you posted here.

but it's ok, i don't want to be "that guy".

Not a fan of Baroness but I love John Baizley's art.

Also, sure it's metal. Genres are just vague descriptors, don't be so anal.
