Update on this: based on discussion primarily in the tournament-discussion channel in the Discord, we've decided to move forward with planning to implement retains into Premier League VI and on. So, the focus of this thread is now onto picking team names.

This is a complete* list of names from every 1v1 Premier League. We need to get this list down to around 12 names that we will put on a google form and use ranked choice voting to decide the final eight.

What I need from everyone is the list of names that you ABSOLUTELY DO NOT want to see as permanent PL franchises, whether because they're lame, cringey, boring, or whatever.

As a side note, since we are measuring public support, one-liners that are a display of support or opposition to a name are allowed.

Dancing Diancies (PL 2)

While the Diancies were a finalist team and the absolute top dogs of PL2 up until Finals, the name itself isn't really too inspired or interesting. If corrupt Tournament Dictator Boat would allow rebranding, I think you could make something cooler out of it, but as is idt it's worthwhile.

Juuling Jumpluffs (PL 3)

Similar deal to Diancies in being a finalist team. They at least have more going for them in being a shitpost about vaping, but that's really about it. I already know why this shitpost team is so heavily preferred over other shitpost teams, though, so I'm prepared for this to be an unpopular opinion.

Mighty Morphin Morpekos (PL 4)

Another finalist team- The morpekos have at least kind of a gimmick working for them with how the "morphing" refers to morpeko's form changing, but I'm personally not that thrilled at it. It's not awful, but it's not something I think would really be fitting as a "forever" team, given how franchises unfortunately work.

Trigger-Happy Thwackeys (PL 5)

This one depends on how this PL goes imo. If they get absolutely clobbered after sneaking into playoffs with 3 or 4 undeserved extra points, then I think it's clear the thwackeys legacy doesn't warrant being a forever team for all future PLs.

I literally managed PL2 in order to keep the Juuling Jumpluffs name out of 1v1 for one more year. Please delete dom's terrible name. RPS Rhyperiors is probably the best name, since it references 1v1 and is alliterative. It should be a lock.

Hellfire Heatrans is a clear 2nd imo.

Also, if we beat Thwackeys this week, they don't get to keep the name.

2. We've cut Juuling Jumpluffs. The imagery is not something we want to be a permanent fixture in Premier League.
3. The Google Form for voting is now live. It can be found below. We will leave this up for a few days and use ranked choice voting to determine the eight franchises we will use! We'll be using only the votes cast by people who played PL III/IV/V.

Hey everyone. its been a few days since that form got any submissions so I'm gonna close it. the results can be found below.

going by the results of the discord poll, we'll be locking the top 4. that means that Megarays, Barraskewdas, Heatrans, and Dragapults are the first four franchises of 1v1 Premier League! the remainder of the top 8 (RPS, panchams, thwackeys, morpekos) will be placed in a similar google poll along with new franchise ideas. which speaking of...

next we'll be moving onto new franchises. The google form for team submissions will be at the bottom of this post. Please read the guidelines first.

da rules (some stolen from the SCL thread)

• These teams are meant to be permanent. Please make sure your submissions are future-proofed. That means that team names based on current pop culture, figures, groups, etc, will not be accepted.
• Think about what the team will likely be called in casual discussion. "megarays, pults, barras, heatrans" are all functional shorthand names. if your team doesn't have a functional shorthand, it's probably not great.
• When you’re suggesting names, offer some ideas for mascots and themes as well. Some so-so ideas can be elevated by a strong mascot tie-in.
• Meme names will be deleted and I'll be very disappointed in you.

Stainless Steelers (registeel) Steelers hits the ear better imo, but is also the name of an actual sports team. Registeel is a great mon, but "Stainless" isn't really the most exciting adjective to describe a team, even if the pun is nice.

Wooloo Warriors the art direction for the team is nice and cute, but idt cute is something you wanna go for when naming a team. Definitely not bad bad, though.

Mad Matadors (bulu) I kinda like this one solely on the premise that a team cheer is already built in. I can just imagine people spamming "TORO" in chat during each of their teammates' series.

Deep Sea Kings (kingdra) alright, but banks on everyone being a one punch man fan

Glam Amps (ampharos) I put this in eh solely because I love mega amph and the loreal looking type logo this team would have

Tri-Beam Blasters (mblastoise) Tri-Beam on its own sounds cool, the name is painfully standard otherwise

Top Thug Avaluggs in eh only because the Avalugg with shades is iconic

Heavyweight Champs (machamp) I vibe with this one since it uses the base turn of phrase while also still describing the mascot without going out of your way to do so and lessening the impact

Danger Zones (magnezone) similar to the above

Hyperspace Horrors (hoopaU) this one's got a really nice ring to it. I can just imagine the logo being like, a shadowy silhouette in the shape of Hoopa-U with glowing red eyes to really emphasize the "horror" bit.

i know you said no one liners but literally every team name except hyperspace horrors are really just not good. they all have weird or cringey adjectives that make no sense and are just stringing similar words together with a very loose pokemon theme (optionally, it seems). wooloo warriors also isn't terrible, circuit serpents is a prime example of a bad team name imo. makes little sense and could literally attach to any "snake" pokemon for a really loose pokemon theme.

With all team names being horrible except Hyperspace horrors, I think going w/ rosa subtle proposition is fine. We could fix some team names like the Vikavolt and the fishes cause honestly these edits sounds nice at least. I also think if someone can make names with groundium-z+kyub or suspect test philosophy they would be iconic, but I'm bad at names so I can't.
