[SET COMMENTS]
- Swords Dance makes Chien-Pao immensely threatening, letting it break through bulky foes such as Toxapex, Great Tusk, and Corviknight.
- Ice Spinner is a more reliable option thanks to its perfect accuracy, but Icicle Crash's power and flinch chance greatly help out against all foes that can take a hit from Chien-Pao, such as Corviknight and Great Tusk.
- Ice Shard is a reliable priority attack mainly used to better deal with Miraidon and Koraidon.
- Sucker Punch can be used as a stronger but prediction-reliant alternative that OHKOes Flutter Mane without a boost and OHKOes the likes of Iron Bundle and Miraidon after a boost. It also provides a favorable roll to OHKO Koraidon if it has Terastallized into the Fire typing.
- Tera Dark boosts Crunch, allowing Chien-Pao to more reliably beat physically defensive Corviknight and Toxapex. Tera Dark Chien-Pao holding Life Orb can OHKO both Pokemon after a Swords Dance boost.
- Tera Ice can be used instead to boost Chien Pao's Ice-type attacks. This also makes Ice Shard a better revenge killing option.
- Sacred Sword can be used to hit foes that resist Chien-Pao's STAB moves, like Kingambit and opposing Chien-Pao.
- Life Orb is the primary item choice because it gives Chien-Pao a lot of power while allowing it to run a Jolly nature and not lose out on potential OHKOs.
- Heavy-Duty Boots sacrifices a lot of power but gives Chien-Pao the ability to ignore entry hazards, allowing it to come in and potentially set up multiple times throughout a game.
- Black Glasses in conjunction with an Adamant nature can be used as an alternative to Life Orb to not have recoil while still being able to OHKO the likes of Corviknight and Toxapex after obtaining a Swords Dance boost and using Tera Dark.
- This set can be used as both an early-game wallbreaker and a late-game sweeper thanks to Chien-Pao's strong STAB attacks and priority moves.
- Chien-Pao has very little defensive utility, so having a defensive core for it to fall back on is recommended for balance teams. On offensive teams, it can afford to run Focus Sash to take at least one hit from foes that would usually threaten it out.
- Great Tusk is Chien-Pao's best teammate, as Great Tusk can handle one of Chien-Pao's hardest checks in Koraidon and provide Rapid Spin support. Rapid Spin also helps keep Focus Sash intact.
