OM Mashup Megathread

For those who didn't know, Pure Hackmons has won the voting stage, thus chosen as our next Mashup Spotlight for June 16th - July 15th.

Anyways, I also did made a Role Compedium for STABmon Uber that would potentially be added to our resources after re-exploring this mashup from couple of weeks ago. ( Ty LaBalladeDesCieux for inspiration and I kind of... followed the regular uber's role compedium...)

STABmon Uber Role Compedium:

Primal Groudon Checks:

Necrozma-Dusk-Mane Checks:

Mega Blaziken Checks:

Xerneas Checks:

Zygarde-Complete Checks:

Primal Kyogre Checks:

Ho-oh Checks:

Marshadow Checks:

Kartana Checks:

Flying Resist:

Extreme Speed Resist / Immunity:

Priority:

Cleric:

Hazard Setter and Removal:
Stealth Rock:

Spikes:

Toxic Spikes:

Sticky Web:

Rapid Spin:

Let me know if there is still need something to add or remove and ask question on why was a certain pokemon included on certain role . I'm also about to post their sets and a short overview too to help new players know what certain pokemon does it do in this mashup, but its still work in progress so... i'll post it later. Also, I might do this on other mashups too.

Rating is still open to anyone if they wish, let me know if anything was missing.
Many teams have been posted lately by other users and our formats need updates in sample teams / sample teams in general, so I will look through the teams in previous posts to see what can be put as new samples.

Also battle me with these teams whenever you like. I want the experience.

Contrary has been banned in Balanced Hackmons: https://www.smogon.com/forums/threa...-and-bans-thread.3588586/page-49#post-8153402

I believe this ban should automatically be reflected to the official LC BH tour code, as that meta has a weaker Imposter and is overall already considerably more offensive than vanilla BH. Edit: !Sleep Clause Mod also seems like it is outdated compared to the current BH rules.

I don't know BH Doubles well enough to say whether that should automatically follow the Contrary ban as well, but it seems that it should be considered.

---

For STABmons-based mashups, I don't think there is any existing tour code that includes the complex bans needed to fully represent the natural move restrictions of the base format (e.g. STAB and Mega doesn't restrict Extreme Speed). So here is a slightly tested tour code snippet that should do this, if anyone needs it. It covers all Pokemon in the Showdown database, including CAP.

* I can regenerate this if e.g. STABmons restricts additional moves or if there are errors with it, but it's hard to do on demand on main because it requires multiple code blocks which seems to often cause Iolanthe to get throttled.

2019/08/04: Icemaster pointed out that Smeargle shouldn't have moves like Extreme Speed restricted due to the fact that it can learn them through Sketch, so the generator and output have been updated to reflect that. It also seems that CAP has released new Pokemon like 'Smoguana' in the meantime which are also included.

Overall Usage Stat for Mashup Anniversary are up, I'm gonna post my thoughts here instead.

AAA Ubers :

Xerneas is indeed one of the best pokemon in AAA Uber. The only thing that can stop Geomancy Xerneas defensively is by avoiding OHKO from any of its attack at +2 regardless of what ability it runs. I'm not sure if its usage stat and win rate was enough to put a suspect test for Xern. But we'll see in the future.

Despite being one of the Top 10 most used Pokemon in AAA Uber, Primal Groudon has a lowest win rate among them, with 22.22%. I also noticed that Pdon isn't a reliable Xerneas Check anymore, moreso if running offensive sets.

+2 252+ SpA Tinted Lens Xerneas Moonblast vs. 144 HP / 56 SpD Groudon-Primal: 352-414 (93.3 - 109.8%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO
+2 252+ SpA Tinted Lens Xerneas Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 100 SpD Groudon-Primal: 336-396 (98.5 - 116.1%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO
+2 252+ SpA Tinted Lens Xerneas Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 144 SpD Groudon-Primal: 322-378 (94.4 - 110.8%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO

+2 252+ SpA Sheer Force Xerneas Focus Blast vs. 144 HP / 56 SpD Groudon-Primal: 385-454 (102.1 - 120.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252+ SpA Sheer Force Xerneas Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 100 SpD Groudon-Primal: 368-433 (107.9 - 126.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252+ SpA Sheer Force Xerneas Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 144 SpD Groudon-Primal: 351-414 (102.9 - 121.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

This means Pdon needs to invest heavily on HP and Special Defense if one wishes to used Pdon to check Xerneas by avoiding OHKOs.
There is also another new Pokemon that can stop Pdon too; those who uses Fire/Ground-immune abilities such as Flash Fire Skarmory and Levitate Zekrom.

One of the best mon in standard AAA has a strong niche by being one of best Xerneas check thanks to Heart Swap and solid bulk. Its great typing also helps checking some dangerous mons such as Adaptability Yveltal and Psychic Surge Deoxys-Attack too. Regenerator is commonly run, but some run Leftovers over Assault Vest to used Heart Swap.

Unfortunately, Mgar has a lowest usage compared to other mons in A rank like Marshadow, Pdon and Ho-oh ( the latter is the 2nd lowest). It has hard time Mega Evolving safely and despite its high special attack, it still struggles OHKOing a lot of mons due to lack of STAB move with 100 or higher BP (Hex requires statusing opponents). It relies on getting SpA boost pre-mega, and it will lose that boost if it megas and switches out, especially if it is forced out by bulky mons like defensive Ho-oh and RegenVest Yveltal. I did see Mega Gengar facing a seemingly stall team consisting of Chansey, Buzzwole and Toxapex, which are vulnerable to being trapped by it. However, that stall team is equipped with a Pursuit Trapper in Tyranitar, which it manages to trap and removed Mgar from the game. This proves that even defensive team are aware of it and bring Pursuit users or equipped with Shed Shell if you're not bringing those. It does have its Prank Dbond pre-mega, which i don't recall seeing it. You can blame me for ranking it high but w/e.

These strong Psychic-Type behemoths are showing their high win rate of 71.42% on the former two and 83.33% on the latter. These 3 were used together by icemaster523 for Psychic-Spam team that can break through and wear down their shared checks. Is this the reason why Scarf Marshadow is viable?

STAAABmons :

I got surprised that Lando-T manages to get a perfect 100% Win Rate in Round 1 while sitting at Top 1 most used mon alongside Magearna. Although the next 2 rounds dropped its win rate to 66.67%

Swampert got a lot of usage from Round 2, both its Base form and Mega form. Its really nice that both are good.

BH Doubles :

These two walls are competing each other as one of best support mon, though Zygod is being used twice in one team. They can run support abilities such as Prankster, Friend Guard and even Dazzling/Queenly Majesty ( It may seem weird why a slow mon run this, but the ability also protects their allies too, allowing them to freely run other strong abilities without worrying about priority )

I've seen some cool techs like Dancer.

Also, i feel like Contrary isn't as broken in BH Doubles as it was on singles. Most of moves that drop offensive stat (V-create, Psycho Boost and Superpower) are all single target move, which can be prone to Protection Moves or being redirected.

I'm surprised Imposter isn't as commonly used. I also see this on Bulbapedia:
In Double Battles, Triple Battles, and Battle Royals, Imposter will copy the opponent in the position directly opposite it. If there is no opponent directly opposite it, it will not transform.
This mean Imposter user requires a positioning if it wants to copy the right opponent.

Btw, I'm gonna post the STABmon Ubers Setpedia after this post, but I'm gonna wait for someone to post something for avoiding double-posting. It might take me like weeks or longer to wait because thread is seemingly becoming more deader than usual... ( I mean, look at the gap between this post and the previous one)

My thoughts on AAA Ubers, BH Doubles and STAAABmons:

AAA Ubers:

Marshadow is an insanely good revenge killer with notable sets including Life Orb, Scarf, Band. Life Orb notably OHKOs any base 100/90 HP and Defence uber, OHKOing bulkier pokemon such as Yveltal after SRs. Its STABs make it nigh impossible to switch into barring niche mons such as Intimidate Skarmory, which Band breaks after rocks. Pursuit is also very threatening, OHKOing MGar, dealing 89-105% to Mewtwo, killing after rocks and to 37-44% Giratina on the switch. Scarf is also an extremely good revenge killer of pokemon with boosts, notably outspeeding Geo Xern of speeds less than 273 (which is most Xerns since most people will just copy the Ubers set), and every single other common scarfed pokemon. It should be in A+ for sure, at least imo.

252 Atk Life Orb Tough Claws Marshadow Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Kyogre-Primal: 351-413 (102.9 - 121.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Tough Claws Marshadow Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Yveltal: 335-395 (73.4 - 86.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Tough Claws Marshadow Pursuit vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mewtwo: 315-372 (89.2 - 105.3%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Tough Claws Marshadow Shadow Sneak vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mewtwo: 237-281 (67.1 - 79.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Tough Claws Marshadow Pursuit vs. 248 HP / 208+ Def Giratina: 190-224 (37.7 - 44.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Another easy contender for A+, maybe even S this is an absolutely monsterous mon (as evidenced by the win rate of 83% too.) I can't stress how good this mon is. Psychic Surge sets can easily force out Marshadow (non scarfed) and shuts down pokemon such as Rayquaza (which is actually not a very good mon imo) and Triage Yveltal with dual STAB Photon Geyser OHKOing Rayquaza, Kyogre etc. Stone Edge allows it to hit Yveltal, killing it after Rocks, and Earthquake hits common steels like Solgaleo and Magearna, and Primal Groudon (another not very good mon). After a Swords Dance it OHKOes the entire metagame, with either Earthquake, Stone Edge or Light That Burns the Sky, barring niche pokemon such as intimidate Skarmory and Psychic Terrain leaves it very very hard to revenge - with often the only choice being to run down the Psychic Terrain count through risky predicts which also wears the team down if rocks are present. The fact that it is relatively bulky in base form and sets its own terrain also makes it very easy to slot into teams. Better hope you have Mewtwo still alive, because that's the only way you're going to revenge it. A more niche set of Magnet Pull can trap Magearna and damage it heavily or trap and kill Solgaleo possibly paving the way for a later Xern Sweep (which it also cores very well with, since it sets up on the steels Xerneas is walled by and provides Psychic Terrain for Xern)

252 Atk Necrozma-Ultra Photon Geyser vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Rayquaza in Psychic Terrain: 324-382 (92.3 - 108.8%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Neuroforce Necrozma-Ultra Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Yveltal: 342-404 (75 - 88.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Necrozma-Ultra Light That Burns the Sky vs. 248 HP / 208+ Def Giratina in Psychic Terrain: 390-459 (77.5 - 91.2%) -- 25% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Necrozma-Ultra Light That Burns the Sky vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mewtwo in Psychic Terrain: 321-378 (90.9 - 107%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock (You might want to be more careful switching in that Mewtwo, if the opponent predicts this and slams you with the LTBTS rather than setting up, that might be GG right there.)
+2 252 Atk Necrozma-Ultra Light That Burns the Sky vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory in Psychic Terrain: 335-394 (100.2 - 117.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 Atk Necrozma-Ultra Light That Burns the Sky vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Lunala in Psychic Terrain: 459-540 (96 - 112.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery (Who runs max defence lunala anyway?)

Special Oriented sets are an option too, but I haven't tried those out. They can break Chansey though.

Gengar sucks. Doesn't really trap anything notable except maybe Skarmory and Chansey, even Unaware Solgaleo lives a hit from Shadow Ball and KOs back with Zen Headbutt. Many trappable pokemon such as Magearna and Jirachi have moves allowing them to Pivot (Volt Switch, U-Turn) and Shed Shell isn't uncommon.

Rayquaza also isn't that great - certainly not A+ rank but maybe A/A- due to its sweep potential on offensive teams without psy-terrain. Pokemon such as Gira coming in and forcing it out due to Will-O-Wisp or Dtail is a huge negative for it. A Z move set such as Dragonium or Firium Z could be decent but I've never seen one. Necrozma Dawn Wings also just destroys it.
+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Rayquaza Extreme Speed vs. 248 HP / 208+ Def Giratina: 328-386 (65.2 - 76.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery.

Groudon-Primal also isn't that great. It only benefits from Intimidate or Grassy Surge which are only decent. Common defogger such as Giratina, Ho-Oh, Lunala just ruin it, as it is unable to break them, and it can't stomach hits from Mewtwo, Xerneas, or NDW. Other rockers which compete with it include:
1. Jirachi (Great role compression, xern counter)
2. NDW (you can run Rocks, photon, stone edge, EQ - get rocks and you can chunk the other team)
3. Chansey (role compression - xern counter)
4. Skarmory

Great mon. Walls almost any non super effective special attacker, Triage set is an incredible check to a large number of threats such as Rayquaza but it does fail to land the KO on Mewtwo (252+ SpA Choice Specs Yveltal Oblivion Wing vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mewtwo: 237-280 (67.1 - 79.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO). Too bad the Triage set is walled by its own bulky set.

252+ SpA Kyogre Water Spout (150 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Yveltal in Rain: 219-258 (48 - 56.5%) -- 86.7% chance to 2HKO
252+ SpA Xerneas Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Yveltal: 168-200 (36.8 - 43.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO (so you can safetly u-turn out)
252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Mewtwo Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Yveltal: 185-218 (40.5 - 47.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO (again, safely u-turn into your Marsh or something)

STAAABmons:

Not much to say here, the meta seems more bulk-oriented with Hyper Offense teams not faring too well. Togekiss is a standout mon as it replaces Thunderus-T as the Triage sweeper but it is walled by Magearna which is common. Other standout mons imo were: Ditto, Medicham-Mega, LandoT, Celesteela, Swampert.

BH Doubles:

As expected, this meta is broken with Sleep and Weather dominating. Zygarde-Cs with Prankster/Primordial/Dazzling/whatever easily spread spore and support their teammate - usually an extremely powerful sweeper such as MRay or Primal Kyogre by Sporing checks/Using Wide Guard/Instruct/Haze/whatever. Setup isn't really a thing due to Prankster Haze, rather just KOing the other team quickly with Rain support + Water Spout + Spore is the prevailing 'strategy'. Some unexplored things which could be good include: Storm Drain, No Guard Dark Void spam (thank god it wasn't used)

Note: Some of them are almost done, i'm just fixing the overview and some small errors.

Feel free to suggest/add some sets and ask some question why some moves are included to further improved the setpedia.

Q&A List:
Why is Leech Seed included on Rotom-Wash set?

While Grass-Types like Ferrothorn and Kartana can block it, the main reason to used Leech Seed is that a lot of pokemon in Uber have high HP stat, with near base 100 or even higher, which means it gains more recovery coming off from the move in addition of chipping opponent's health at the same time ( For Rotom-Wash, it recovers roughly 20% of its health when combined with Leftovers )
Why can't Gothorita reliably trapped Seismic Toss Chansey unlike Gothitelle?

Chansey Seismic Toss vs. 252 HP Gothorita: 100-100 (30.8 - 30.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
Chansey Seismic Toss vs. 244 HP Gothitelle: 100-100 (29.2 - 29.2%) -- guaranteed 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
Seismic Toss is a 4HKO, which leaves Gothorita at 24 HP left after the Rest cycle ends. This forces Gothorita to used Rest again, which leaves Chansey free from Taunt and escape via Transform or Whirlwind. Gothitelle can avoid this situation thanks to Leftovers, which can Taunt Chansey after its Rest Cycle ends while not dying from Seismic Toss at the same time.

Tier Shift AAA is a god-tier meta

here are some sets for y'all that I've been using

185736

Ippo (Hitmonchan) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Drain Punch
- Bullet Punch
- Rapid Spin
- Ice Punch

This set is one of my favorites right now. It has an absurd amount of SpDef, and basically can just tank for the entire match if you don't throw it away for no reason. Regenerator and Drain Punch keep it healthy and it prays on a lot of threats in the meta like Guzzlord and Aerodactyl if you're feeling particularly frisky.

Bullet Punch is a coverage choice to hit Fairy types that want to come in on it, such as Gardevoir and Diancie. A Psychic Surge user would be the natural thing to pray on Hitmonchan, so it definitely appreciates a Steel type a la Magearna to cover its' weaknesses to Fairy, Psychic, and Flying.

185738

Diancie @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dazzling Gleam
- Power Gem
- Earth Power
- Stealth Rock

This is a pretty decent SR setter if you aren't particularly worried about Magic Bounce, and it tends to deal with Defoggers that want to fight it pretty effectively with a nice 120 SpAtk stat. Water types that used to like coming in on it can no longer really deal with it effectively thanks to Water Absorb, and it has nice defensive stats that sit at 170 either way.

Diancie is most certainly not the premiere Fairy type attacker in the tier, but if you're hurting for Fire and Water resists, this can fill some defensive gaps.

185740

Pikachu @ Light Ball
Ability: Galvanize
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Brick Break
- Knock Off
- Return

Pikachu is stupid in this metagame

Not, like, broken, but still stupid

Reaches a dumb attack stat, spammable STAB espeed that kills anything that doesn't resist it outright

Pixilate/Refrigerate are also viable options if you want to slap Guzzlord or Ground types, it's silly tbh

185741

Galvantula @ Focus Sash
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sticky Web
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Volt Switch
- Bug Buzz

Galvantula is probably the best Webs setter in the tier, with a great speed tier and access to Volt Switch for momentum. Mold Breaker is also a sick offensive ability (no surprise there), so with HP Fire it can take care of Flash Fire mons that would otherwise be annoying, as well as Volt Absorb mons that are dumb enough to stay in. Bug Buzz can be replaced with whatever other coverage move you want, whether that be Thunderbolt, Energy Ball, or whatever else. Bug Buzz is good for Guzzlord though so I prefer it.

185742

POISON JAM (Gligar) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Bounce
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- U-turn
- Earthquake
- Toxic / Knock Off
- Roost

This set is pretty great as a bouncer. Gligar is strong even without Eviolite access, and has amazing typing. Gligar can run a plethora of other abilities rather successfully, too, such as Intimidate (to become Lando-T lite), Thick Fat (in case Ice types scare you), and Poison Heal to make a strictly worse Gliscor.

Actually no matter what this mon is gonna be worse than Gliscor, I just like the shiny colors way more.

It seems like Tier Shift AAA has been selected as the next spotlight! It seems like a very popular format recently.

Since it seems like there isn't an official tour code yet, this is the tour code I have been using recently:-

Code:
/tour new gen7almostanyability, elimination, 32,1
/tour autostart 10
/tour rules gen7tiershift, -Thick Club
/tour name [Gen 7] Tier Shift AAA

Changes:-
July 28th 2019: Thick Club banned by suspect

Very compact! This is also one of the aliases that Iolanthe will recognise as Spotlight this month.

FAQ: Will sets with abilities like Drizzle affect Tier Shift boosts?

In some cases, Tier Shift tries to reduce tier-based stat boosts based on a set's ability, moves, etc when those attributes are banned in a tier: for example, a Politoad with Drizzle will not gain any stat boosts, because Drizzle is banned in UU. When asked, I thought the same would apply in AAA when a Pokemon is given the ability illegally from AAA, but now I have tested it, AAA users somehow bypass the checks because it seems that unlike on legal sets, illegal abilities are no longer capitalised by the time they reach the Tier Shift validator... I'm not sure to what extent this is an intended interaction or might be subject to change in future, but for now, Drizzle, Drought and Aurora Veil should not affect your tier boosts.

Sorry for any confusion.

With TS AAA as the spotlight, I want to highlight some currently problematic/banworthy mons, as well as a few that I think may end up becoming problems but that aren't currently.

There are 2 Pokemon right now that I think absolutely and immediately need to be banned, as they are far too powerful for the rest of the metagame.

These two Pokemon in question are Marowak and Aromatisse.

So I'm gonna start off with the biggest offender.

185940

Marowak, for the most part, flies under the radar when considering physical sweepers. He's slower than molasses going upstream and 80 Attack just isn't threatening all things considered. With a Thick Club, you might still ignore him for being slow.

In Tier Shift, his Attack shoots up to a base 120, and that Thick Club still doubles that number. which is terrifying. With access to speed boosting abilities like Surge Surfer, Chlorophyll, Slush Rush, Swift Swim, and Sand Rush, he can safely start thwacking things without worrying about them surviving.

185941

(Tier Shift stats included to give perspective)

Marowak @ Thick Club
Ability: Surge Surfer
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake / Bonemerang
- Knock Off
- Thunder Punch / Fire Punch / Stone Edge
- Swords Dance

You can Jolly Nature if you're worried about being outsped but the chances of that happening under your favored terrain/weather is low. Fire Punch is for grass types that worry you, Thunder Punch is for water types that worry you, and Stone Edge is for flying types that worry you. Pick your poison, I guess. You can still hit them with Knock Off anyways.

Also, Thunderpunch gets boosted to 112.5 BP by Electric Terrain, which is a neat factor to consider here.

You have a myriad of attacking moves to choose from, which makes Marowak a decently customizeable mon. He slots into virtually any weather team and Surge Surfer allows him not be put to sleep by the likes of Spore users i.e. Shiinotic who would want to put it to sleep in order to manage the threat.

Wak is an easy mon to support, is immensely powerful, is hard to manage successfully, and can have coverage for mons who are supposed to check it, outside of Levitate Steel/Rock types like Probopass (who really can't touch him except through Toxic).

Just so it doesn't sound like I'm whining, I have included some calcs to show how strong Marowak is:

252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Guzzlord: 360-424 (55.3 - 65.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Most Guzzlords will tend to run 252 Attack so this isn't an unwarranted calculation

252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Shiinotic: 108-127 (33.3 - 39.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Shiinotic: 216-256 (66.6 - 79%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
If they don't literally roll the worst possible values, they 2HKO if you switch in on EQ. Leftovers are a factor to consider, though I personally used a Rocky Helmet. Most people won't run 252+ Def on Shiinotic though

252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Quagsire: 210-247 (53.2 - 62.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
Quag can't safely switch in, unfortunately. This meta doesn't tend to allow rocks to stay down on the ground for more than a few turns, so these have been calcs without rocks, but they would most certainly be a lot more catastrophic for the opponents

252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mr. Mime: 325-384 (147 - 173.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Mr. Mime actually has a solid 105 defense stat!

252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Gardevoir: 385-454 (138.9 - 163.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Gliscor: 136-160 (38.4 - 45.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Gliscor: 140-165 (39.5 - 46.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
Finally, a mon that can survive an attack and then do something to wak! Namely, Toxic or Knock Off to get rid of Thick Club.

252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Aromatisse: 226-267 (55.6 - 65.7%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO after Poison Heal
Aromatisse can't really do much against Wak, despite being a solid defensive wall. It can Protect->Wish->Protect to survive, but Wak would just SD during that and OHKO it without much worry

252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Earthquake vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Hitmonchan: 292-345 (120.6 - 142.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0- Def Genesect: 393-463 (138.8 - 163.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

I think this gets the point across.

Originally I intended to just suggest a ban of the Thick Club item, but I think ultimately the best solution here is to ban Marowak, since:

1. Marowak doesn't need a Thick Club to be a terrifying threat, with access to Swords Dance and a variety of powerful attacking moves that cover its' best checks.

2. Cubone and Marowak-Alola would lose an item they much appreciate; and Marowak outpaces both pretty heavily with a better speed tier, + much better attacking stats than either.

EDIT: Thick Club could be problematic on Alolan Marowak as well, as has been pointed out to me, and after a bit of discussion I was convinced that Marowak wouldn't be a problem without it. I have changed my mind on this issue.

It is, in my opinion as well as several others I have spoken to, in desperate need of a ban, as soon as possible.

Next, since I've beaten that point to death, I want to point towards arguably a just as awful mon for the metagame:

185968

Calculations won't do this one justice, and they're annoying to do with Tier Shift stats, but honestly this thing is both annoying and awful to deal with.

185970

(Tier Shift stats included to give perspective)

Vegas, Baby (Aromatisse) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Calm Mind
- Protect

The Defense variant is probably even better than this, in a lot of ways. Would allow you to live through Marowak better, take hits from Poison Jab better, would be harder to wear down with moves like Bullet Punch.

You can viably run Toxic or Substitute, as well, to make this thing even more obnoxious or specialized, and it can also act as a cleric with access to Aromatherapy and Heal Bell. It cannot be worn down with status, and unless your pokemon does about 80% to it in a single hit or can boost its' attacking stats, you're not going to break Aromatisse.

Wish+Protect+Poison Heal gives it INSANE longevity, and it usually never has trouble getting up to +4/+4 with Calm Mind.

Aromatisse is a terror offensively and defensively, and I have seen several games where it becomes a stall war purely because Aromatisse exists, as well as Calm Mind boosting wars between two of these things. It can be dealt with, obviously, but due to the defensive terror and ability to aid the team with Wish support, it ABSOLUTELY needs a ban.

I've gotten the two major mons out of the way, so I'm just gonna quickly run through a few mons that I think are also really strong and potentially banworthy:

185969

Minior @ Focus Sash
Ability: Dazzling
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Acrobatics
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Shell Smash

For the record, this thing isn't nearly as one-trick as it might seem, since it can run White Herb instead of Sash for easier Acrobatics proc, as well as abilities like Volt Absorb, Water Absorb, and Mold Breaker if you're not worried about priority.

Minior boosts up into unreachable speed territory and starts sweeping. Levitate Steels usually immediately cripple it though, and it can't break Sash if it taps Stealth Rocks. Guzzlord also survives a +2 Acrobatics as well, so it isn't as fearsome as it may seem. However, it probably still needs a suspect test, as it can run right through quite a few things with its' decent coverage. It may be overshadowed by other mons, but that doesn't make it a slouch by any means.

185979

Gallade (M) @ Electric Seed
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Swords Dance
- Poison Jab
- Leaf Blade / Knock Off / Ice Punch / whatever

Unburden SD Drain Punch is terrifying, and this thing can use a number of items like any of the seeds or berries. It isn't hard to get an SD with this thing, and once it does it's very hard to deal with. I don't think this is on the same level as Marowak or Minior in terms of sweeping potential but it certainly hits hard, and it may be worth looking into this.

Lastly, I want to say that despite how dangerous the offensive threats in this meta are, stall is still viable. I quite like it.

I will update this post tomorrow with replays displaying the problem mons in action.

I encourage the mods to start a suspect for Marowak and Aromatisse immediately.

Thanks for reading!

Have a few small announcements tonight, here are the heads up:

Drampa and I made a Leader's Choice-like Spotlight decision this time again and we decided Camomons Ubers or Tier Shift Almost Any Ability would do. I was asked to choose between the two and didn't have a decision so an anonymous poll was made into the subroom and Tier Shift Almost Any Ability won. As a result, Tier Shift Almost Any Ability is the new spotlight! (Was brought up early in the two posts above because I mentioned it in the subroom earlier this morning)

Last thing is, I have been updating some of the main posts on this thread's first page with newer sample teams, more resources, and extensive banlists posted in pastebins. More updates will come and one might even go onto the OP. News regarding the new spotlight might also come its way into the near future.

Been playing around with TS AAA a fair bit and here's a team I've had some good results with.
Probopass @ Smooth Rock
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Stealth Rock
- Volt Switch
- Pain Split
- Toxic
There are very few mons that can set sand, rocks, and have access to a switching move. Probopass has the greatest mixed bulk of them and Pain Split can allow it some extent of recovery as well as helping it to stall out Aromatisse if it gets some Calm Minds up, something which Alolan Golem can't do.

Marowak @ Thick Club
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bonemerang
- Knock Off
- Fire Punch
Marowak, as has been talked about above, is an absolutely horrifying mon when it's speed is boosted. Boasting a terrifying 744 attack and 538 speed it can be difficult to switch into and difficult to revenge kill as well. It also has a very nice base defense of 150 to shrug off priority hits and swords dance so that it can boost it's already eye-watering attack even further. Marowak is obviously not banworthy, though Thick Club might be worth looking at in the future. If it does get banned I'd try out Sandslash and Rhydon as alternatives.

Aerodactyl @ Choice Band
Ability: Aerilate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Return
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Earthquake
Pretty much everything that resists Marowak's STAB is weak to either flying or rock, so Aerodactyl serves as an excellent partner to aid in applying offensive pressure. Choice Band makes it hit very hard and it's 160 speed allows it to outpace most if not all opposing mons. A Hone Claws set might also be good for reducing the Stone Edge problem.

Magearna @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Volt Switch
- Fleur Cannon
- Flash Cannon
- Focus Blast
One of the best defensive mons in regular AAA and still just as good in TS AAA, AV Magearna provides a good switchin to the various powerful dark types of the tier, such as Mandibuzz and Guzzlord, which can scare out Marowak. Volt Switch is also a valuable move to have, as Magearna's low speed in a tier where many slow mons get +40 to their speed allow it to go last most of the time and bring Marowak or Aerodactyl in safely. It also serves as a good way to scare off Aromatisse.

Kabutops @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Liquidation
- Stone Edge
- Knock Off
Not many rock types get Rapid Spin so Kabutops wasn't facing much competition for this role. It's quad resistance to fire compliments Magearna quite well and rock typing boosts it's special defense to over 700 in sand when combined with Assault Vest, allowing it to take even super effective hits without much complaint and clear away rocks or Knock Off a spinblocker.

Shiinotic @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spore
- Strength Sap
- Moonblast
- Leech Seed
Much of this team is weak to fighting, ground, or water, so this is a convenient mon that resists all of them and has a great movepool containing the coveted Spore and Strength Sap. It can come in on many physical threats and proceed to weaken them to go into a sweeper or even just KO fighting types with Moonblast. Moonblast also helps against the dark types that are immune to it's Prankster moves. The only downside is sand chipping it, although Leftovers help a bit.

Im going to share some of my thoughts on TS AAA, prompted by GΔCT's post.

1) Suspectworthy mons

We were talking about suspectworthy mons yesterday in a groupchat, after playing a couple of tours where marowak dominated pretty hard. I definitely agree that Wak and Aroma need to be looked at (aka suspected), although the meta might evolve into a place where they are not as opressive as they are currently. Minior also seems very powerful, but it's checks are a bit more obvious and universally useful than Wak's.

I realise what I say next might seem biased, as I think I'm basically the only person that uses Gallade atm, but Gallade isn't nearly as strong as the above mentioned mons. It's only niche is as a terrain sweeper, but it is very good at doing that. It's also walled by unaware fatmons, Mandibuzz in particular which can prob OHKO it w Foulplay; even volt absorb Mandibuzz probably lives a +2 CC and OHKOs.

2) Electric terrain offense

For the past week, I've been playing a lot of Electric terrain (bulky) offense teams both in Staaab RU and now in TS AAA as well. I think it's a very underused and underrated archetype that has some key strengths over weather (and other terrains). Now, Im not saying its better than weather, Im just saying that its probably just as good.

a) Electric terrain prevents mons from going to sleep. I only realised how good this is when playing vs lolLlLcker69's prankster Shiinotic which can otherwise stop a sweep with Spore, but is unable to do that as long as terrain is up.
b) Weather is more common than terrain, which means that your Surge Surfer mons usually get a lot of turns where their speed is being boosted (as opposed to constantly fighting for wether control) in other to break apart the opposing team. It's even better when your Surfer is fast originally, because it outspeeds most weather sweepers and can usually OHKO them.
c) Nature power = Weather ball for terrain. Also, basically everything learns Thunderpunch, which means that you have a very nice selection of potential terrain sweepers. NatPow is particularly good on Fire types because it gives them access to terrain boosted TBolt in order to pressure water types.

As for key members of an Electric terrain team, I usually like to run a setter, a Surfer and an Unburden win condition.

My preferred Surgers have been Vikavolt, Rotom-Mow and Heliolisk. I usually run a Z move on Lisk, recently it's been Water Z to lure groundtypes, but Normal Z might work to lure Volt Absorb mons as well.

EVs: 248 HP / 84 Def / 176 SpD

- Hyper Voice
- Volt Switch
- Surf

As for Surfers, I've come to the conclusion that the best one for Staaab RU is Pyroar. It gets spammable 140bp Stab in Boomburst, Fire stab of choice and Nature power. The fourth slot can be Judgment for more coverage, but I usually run recover to mitigate Life Orb recoil. I have a couple of replays which show the power of Pyroar.

Ability: Surge Surfer
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

In TS AAA, it's hard to replicate Pyroar. I tried Magmortar which was pretty meh and Camerupt, which was better; but then it hit me.
Marowak is the best Surfer by a mile. It gets SD, which boosts his attack to above 1300 together with Thick Club, Electric terrain lets you drop Stone Edge for Thundepunch as coverage for Flying types, while the last slot depends on what you want to hit. Fire Punch deals w Shiinotic, but there's also Knock Off and Iron Head, among other things.

The Unburden wincon is of course Gallade. I don't think there's many other options, because CC is great STAB and it's covered pretty well by a combination of Thunder Punch, Poison Jab and Knock Off.

constantine atreides (Gallade) @ Electric Seed

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat

- Thunder Punch/Knock Off
- Swords Dance

The other three mons are up to preference. I like to add a decent defensive core, preferably with pivoting moves to retain momentum and perhaps a Scarfer for additional Speed Control. Ive been noticing a resurgence of Volt Absorb mons howerver, which might prove to be a problem for this archetype, in which case a Moldy wallbreaker becomes mandatory.

3) Underperforming mons

Golbat, which I was a very big fan of in MNM TS, seems way less good in TS AAA. While in MNM TS it got Sablenite to bolster its bulk and prevent defensive mons from doing much of anything, while forcing them out due to threatening unavoidable Toxic from Poison Fang; in TS AAA lots of defensive mons are opting to run Poison Heal (Aromatisse, for example), which means Golbat can't touch them. I've been forced out by things Golbat was supposed to answer multiple times, so I dont like it as much as I did in MNM TS.

Registeel has also been meh for me, once again mainly due to being setup bait for Magic Bounce/Poison Heal Aromatisse. The lack of Anchor shot and King's Shield dont help either. I could just be building it wrong.

TS AAA is a pretty aggressive metagame in general, but I personally think stall is way more fun, so I tried my hand at making a team that would handle the common threats pretty well.

186147

Summertime Clothes (Aromatisse) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Calm Mind
- Protect

Aromatisse was the obvious starting point of the team here, since it offers amazing support and can wall out the vast majority of the meta singlehandedly. Mons that should check it occasionally just don't. I have found that it is the most useful win condition on the team, as well, being able to start up a sweep once the opposing team has been rid of Steel types.

186150

Brother Sport (Passimian) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Iron Head

Passimian might be the secret sauce that holds the team together. It has pretty decent bulk physically and specially, and with Drain Punch and Regenerator + U-Turn it has awesome longevity. It synergizes well with Aromatisse, picking off the Steel types it struggles with like Probopass. The only real issue is Magearna, which stops it cold a lot of the time.

252+ SpA Magearna Fleur Cannon vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Passimian: 338-402 (83.6 - 99.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

It can survive a single max special attack Fleur Cannon at max HP, but I doubt most Magearnas you encounter in this tier would be running that much special attack, as it is most useful as a tank.

Iron Head is super important as it allows you to hit Fairy types very hard which would otherwise love to switch in on Passimian.

186146

Man Of Oil (Muk-Alola) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Knock Off
- Fire Punch
- Shadow Sneak
- Pursuit

Muk has 525 SpDef after Assault Vest bonus, allowing it to switch in on virtually any special attack that gets thrown at it. Shadow Sneak has been a let down occasionally but has also clutched out a couple of kills that it otherwise wouldn't get, so I think it is warranted. You could run Poison Jab over it if you wanted, though.

There's actually a decent question about whether Muk is worth using over Skuntank in this position. Skuntank has access to Defog and is twice as fast, but has just a bit less Special Defense and HP and its' coverage on Steel types is Special instead of Physical. On the flipside, it also has higher Defense. It might be worth testing.

186148

Banshee Beat (Mandibuzz) @ Leftovers
Ability: Delta Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Foul Play
- Taunt
- Roost

I originally ran Empoleon as my Defogger of choice, but I found myself suffering due to Empoleon's not-so-great stats and weakness to Electric attacks and lack of recovery. Mandibuzz tanks hits like crazy, has Roost, and gets some great utility moves in Taunt and Foul Play.

Taunt is actually really good on this set, allowing Mandibuzz to prevent itself from getting Toxic'd, stopping setup sweepers before they can try and break through it, preventing opponents from healing or setting rocks again...it's pretty good. However, it might be better to run Toxic.

186149

In The Flowers (Shiinotic) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Strength Sap
- Spore
- Leech Seed
- Moonblast

Shiinotic is a good physical wall with access to useful moves like Strength Sap to prevent getting absolutely thrashed by Marowak. Marowak can still slap it with Fire Punch though so it's a bit of a gamble.

186151

FloriDada (Gastrodon) @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Toxic
- Infestation
- Clear Smog
- Recover

Gastrodon is by far the coolest mon on this team. Unaware is probably the single most important ability in the whole metagame for stall in my opinion, due to the overabundance of sweepers that want to just explode your whole team. The idea of this set is to switch in on a setup sweeper like Marowak or Minior, Toxic them, and heal. Once you've healed, you can hit them with Infestation and they can't leave any more. It's super good. If Gastrodon can't survive by healing, Clear Smog rids them of their stat changes unless they're Steel type (in which case you're boned).

I originally had Quagsire in this slot due to having Haze which is just better, but Gastrodon has much more HP which is absolutely pivotal here.

You may consider Whirlpool. There aren't many/any Ghost types around right now so it might be far better for the set, but I imagine there might be more in the future so now would be the time to use it if any.

EDIT: Hoopa is the best Unburden sweeper change my mind

I'm going to post two more teams that I've had success with. .

First up is Sun offense, featuring Chlorophyll Wak, Chlorophyll Houndoom and Triage Victreebel as my three sun abusers. Pokepaste link
Harbinger (Mandibuzz) @ Heat Rock
Ability: Drought
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- U-turn
- Foul Play
- Defog
- Roost

Digital Boy (Marowak) @ Thick Club
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch
- Knock Off
- Swords Dance

Integral Gentleman (Victreebel) @ Life Orb
Ability: Triage
EVs: 252 Atk / 104 SpA / 152 Spe
Lonely Nature
- Growth
- Giga Drain
- Leech Life
- Weather Ball

Numerical Male (Raikou) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Desolate Land
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Rash Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Weather Ball
- Volt Switch
- Aura Sphere

The Number Man (Regirock) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Protect
- Stone Edge
- Toxic

Mister Numbers (Houndoom) @ Darkinium Z
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Hidden Power [Fighting]

The team is pretty simple. Mandy sets sun and defogs, Regirock is very bulky with poison heal/protect and can check alot of mons just by existing. Notably +2 Minior doesnt kill, so as long as you keep Regi healthy and hit toxic/edge, you wont lose to it. Raikou is necessary to annoy opposing weather teams and cancel out opposing primal weather.

Marowak has the ability to rip bulkier teams apart after SD and gets pseudo STAB on Fire punch under sun. Houndoom and Victreebel on the other hand are good vs offensive teams, since Houndoom under sun is very hard to outspeed. Since Guzzlord kinda walls both of them, Doom has HP fighting, although it only does about Half at +2, whereas Vic has Leech Life with an EV spread that always kills AV Guzz (max hp, max spd) after rocks at +2. Vic also OHKOs Wak with Giga Drain, even unboosted.

The second team is a balance build featuring Scarf Noivern as its wincon. Pokepaste link

Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 8 Def / 248 SpD
Careful Nature
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Swords Dance
- Roost

Camerupt @ Groundium Z
Ability: Desolate Land
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Nature Power
- Stealth Rock

Roserade @ Black Sludge
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Synthesis
- Toxic Spikes
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb

Noivern @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Aerilate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Boomburst
- U-turn
- Switcheroo
- Roost

Oricorio-Pom-Pom @ Leftovers
Ability: Delta Stream
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hurricane
- Revelation Dance
- Defog
- Roost

Aromatisse @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Calm Mind
- Wish
- Protect

Since there's lots of Terrain and Weather offense around, i wanted to be able to disrupt those teams. That's where Oricorio and Roserade come in. Camerupt has great synergy with Roserade, since with Grassy terrain up, it has no weaknesses. Even so, it's great on it's own as an Electric type check as it blocks Volt Switch while not being weak to any of the usual coverage moves carried by electrics to hit ground types. Nature Power is run over Solarbeam so you dont get trapped into a 2 turn beam after a Primordial Sea mon switches into you. Scizor checks Aromatisse and any other annoying Fairy that would try to force Noivern out, whereas Aromatisse with Unaware checks most setup sweepers and threatens to win after a couple of CM boosts.

Last there's Scarf Noivern, a great revenge killer because:
- it resists most of the common triage boosted moves
- outspeeds alot of mons even at +2 speed
- Boomburst hits through Subs and is very spammable in general
- Switcheroo can be used to cripple bulkier teams

There's a poll to gauge public opinion in the OM Mashups room on Showdown! Come let us know what you think is suspectworthy. The poll will end in about 24 hours, and from there we will consider moving towards a suspect or possibly a quick-ban. Please let me know if there are any Pokemon you think are conspicuous by their absence in this poll!

One set in TS AAA

Jellicent @ Choice Scarf / Choice Specs
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Water Spout
- Shadow Ball
- Hydro Pump
- Trick

Since the LC OM teams in the OP were rather outdated, I'm gonna post mine.
BH LC: Ghost Spam

AAA LC: Regen Pawniard

STABmons LC: Dual Regen Balance

STABmons LC: Mantyke Offense

Caution: This is not a full rain team, it supposed to support Mantyke in its late game sweeping, don't bring Purrloin on Turn 1 and set-up Rain Dance, only bring it later once the roadblocks to Mantyke have been weakened or eliminated.

And lastly, this is a seemingly Strategy for BH LC.
In contrast of the standard Balance Hackmons, the Little Cup version is a more offensively based meta due to the damage roll at low level heavily favors it, notably almost any strong moves can OHKO or 2HKO a lot of pokemon if they didn't resist it.

=Speed=
In this metagame, Speed can be the most important thing to note. Some pokemon have marginal difference on their base Speed, but they reached a same speed. For Example, Magby has 83 Speed while Abra has 90 Speed, and yet, both of them can reached 19 Speed, often causing a Speed Tie. Speed Control in the form of paralysis from Nuzzle and Glare, Sticky Web, Priority Moves and Unburden can be useful. Even Choice Scarf, Speed Boost and Weather-based abilities are a good option as well.

=Knock Off=
Knock Off is one of the best moves in this format. In addition of dealing damage, it can remove important item such as Eviolite from defensive pokemon. Almost any pokemon can viably used this as a 4th attacking slot, coverage, utility and even as a primary STAB move. For instance, Ponyta can run Knock Off on its 4th slot to cripple would be switch-ins such as Fire-resist and Flash Fire users, Offensive Normal-Types and Fighting-Types can run Knock Off to hit Ghost-Types for super-effective damage, Defensive pokemon can support their teammates by removing items, and offensive Dark-Types such as Murkrow and Pawniard can run this as a strong STAB of choice.

=Multi-hit moves=
Because of how the damage roll works on low level, multi-hit moves hits surprisingly hard than their Base Power would indicate. For example:

212 Atk Tirtouga Diamond Storm vs. 236 HP / 236 Def Eviolite Tangela: 7-9 (26.9 - 34.6%) -- 0% chance to 3HKO
Possible damage amounts: (7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 9)

212 Atk Tirtouga Rock Blast (4 hits) vs. 236 HP / 236 Def Eviolite Tangela: 12-16 (46.1 - 61.5%) -- approx. 12.1% chance to 2HKO
Possible damage amounts: (3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4)

Both Diamond Storm and 4 Rock Blasts have a same Base Power of 100. However, 4 Rock Blast deals a total of 12 Damage most of the time, which even outdamages Diamond Storm's 7 Damage Output despite the same Base Power. In addition, multi-hit moves can break through Substitute, Sturdy and Focus Sash as well. The Ability Skill Link can abused this by its guaranteed 5 hits.

=Defensive Walls=
Defensive Walls can be a little bit tougher to check a lot of threats. Most of them are reliant on resistances and immunities. Most Defensive Pokemon are reliant on Eviolite to take hits, which can be prone to Knock Off, and if they lost it, they are mostly 2HKOed by the pokemon they supposed to check. Few notable defensive abilities are difficult to take advantage of; Poison Heal for instance, are much harder to used defensively due to low HP stat of the pokemon at low level and in most cases, they recover much lesser. It can be quite hard to find a defensive pokemon that can potentially avoid 3HKOs from strong neutral attack. Almost any super-effective moves can cause a lot of damage to the point there are forced to recover most of the time.

=Imposter=
Due to aforementioned defensive wall from above, finding a hard counter to your own sweeper can be difficult, and you'll often find a specific pokemon that can resist or immune to any attacks of your sweeper as your improof. Self-Improof does still exist in the form of Judgment and Unburden.

Tier Shift Almost Any Ability Suspect!
and

We are suspecting BOTH Marowak and Aromatisse in TS AAA. The suspect will work as follows.

You DO NOT have to earn requirements on ladder or in a tour. The only requirement is that you post, in this thread, your reasoning for your vote. We ask that you spell out why you are voting as clearly as possible, include specific examples, replays, and calcs wherever possible.
I reserve the right to discard any votes I determine to have insufficient reasoning, or reasoning that runs contrary to standard tiering policy. Generally so long as you support your points you should be fine, but feel free to ask me on Showdown or on here if you provided enough evidence.

On Marowak...
We will be voting
BAN MAROWAK, BAN THICK CLUB, or NO BAN*.

*In order for NO BAN to win, it must beat the combined number of votes of the other two. Think of it as two votes; one BAN or NO BAN, one on how to carry out the ban.

On Aromatisse...
We will simply be voting BAN or NO BAN.

A simple majority of 50%+1 will be required for a ban in both suspects.

There are two reasons I am using 50% as the cut-off as opposed to a more traditional higher percentage. First, I do not anticipate high turnout for this suspect. I don't wish to be in a situation where we require 5/7 (or over 70%) BAN votes for a ban to occur if we were to choose 60%. The second reason is that in standard suspects the tier typically has a ladder or some recourse for play, as well as a location for discussion which will continually be focused on it. We lack both. Therefore I believe it is more important for us to continue to move forward boldly in our tiering than to take the precautions larger, more played, tiers can afford. They will have the opportunities to retest if necessary. We will not.

As there are no requirements to strive for for this suspect the time-frame will be kept short. However I do wish to host several tours over the course of this suspect so participants can be as informed as possible, and also to encourage activity and generate replays.

The suspect will last until Friday the 26th at 11:59 EST. I will take votes until such time as the results are announced.
The first suspect tour will be at 12 PM (Noon) EST tomorrow (well today for me) July 23rd. I will hopefully announce the schedule of tours at that time.

Thanks to everyone for participating, and I look forward to the discussion :)

Also this is my 900th post. Shoutouts to Ransei We Wuz Nidokangz Roldski32 Wrk5646 and basically the whole Mashups staff for keeping us going strong :) I'll do more in depth shout-outs at my 1000th post.

As for Marowak, I vote BAN THICK CLUB.

My primary reasoning here comes down to a few points:

1. Thick Club is manageable in the base game because Marowak's stats are pitiful, however Tier Shift changes that. With +40 to both Attack (bringing it to base 120) and Speed (bringing it to base 85) and the option to give it a speed boosting ability like Surge Surfer, Chlorophyll, or any other conditional speed doubler, it can sweep unchecked even without a boost.

The tier's best walls are both susceptible to various coverage moves Marowak can choose to use, with access to Thunder Punch and Stone Edge for Mandibuzz, and access to Iron Head and its' signature STAB Earthquake or Bonemerang for Aromatisse. It can also use Fire Punch, Knock Off, Brick Break, and Swords Dance, all of which are viable against the flavor of the week opponents it will run up against.

252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Aromatisse: 240-283 (59.1 - 69.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Poison Heal
252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mandibuzz in Electric Terrain: 316-372 (74.5 - 87.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mandibuzz: 210-248 (49.5 - 58.4%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO

Most Mandibuzz will run other abilities but I have used and seen Delta Stream about:
252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mandibuzz: 158-186 (37.2 - 43.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
(This is under Electric Terrain)
252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mandibuzz in Strong Winds: 105-124 (24.7 - 29.2%) -- 100% chance to 4HKO
(This is not under Electric Terrain)
252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mandibuzz in Strong Winds: 140-165 (33 - 38.9%) -- 99.7% chance to 3HKO

This may not seem crazy at a glance because, hey, Mandibuzz can live this! But this is with Delta Stream, and presumes that Marowak will switch out when Mandibuzz switches in, which is common. In that circumstance, Mandibuzz has to potentially take damage from switching in on Marowak as well as chip from Stealth Rock repeatedly. Unless it has reliable wish support that can also come in on Marowak (which, I remind you, Aromatisse cannot) it will not have the longevity to be a reliable check for long.

2. Without Thick Club, Marowak is forgettable. Even comparing it club-less to other Gen 1 Ground types in Dugtrio (140 Attack/160 Speed), Rhydon (160 Attack/70 Speed), Sandslash (140 Attack/105 Speed), and Golem (160 Attack/85 Speed) it just seems...weak. 120 Attack doesn't hold up to any of those, and it is slow as molasses in comparison to the weaker side of those. None of those are even on the radar right now, so why would Marowak be, without Thick Club?

3. Thick Club allows Alolan Marowak to also be INSANE. There is a replay below that displays as much, but while Alolan Marowak lacks the splashability into various archetypes that Marowak has, it brings a terrifying amount of power to any Sun team that decides to use it. Fire/Ghost is an unresisted STAB coverage (at least by any of the base types, there are mons like Guzzlord that resist that coverage) and it can boost up to +2 just as easily as Marowak. Not only that, but unlike Marowak, it gets its' primary STAB move in Flare Blitz boosted by the same condition that gives Alolan Marowak its' speed (since you'd obviously run it with Chlorophyll). This is scary to deal with.

Also, although I don't think this would ever develop into an issue, Cubone could be decently nasty with Thick Club if we got rid of just Marowak.

I posted all these replays before, and frankly I should have been collecting more over time but it slipped my mind, but here are some anyways:

As for Aromatisse, I'm going to extremely tentatively say NO BAN.

This sounds really odd since I was the first person really to call for a ban on Aromatisse but it comes down to a simple factor:

Aromatisse can destroy Balance and Stall...but it tends to crumple to Offense.

A ton of checks have come out of the woodworks recently for Aromatisse, and they are almost all offensive mons that 2HKO or OHKO it.

I'm talking about things like the aforementioned Marowak, Scizor, Metagross, Unaware Magearna, really any Magearna actually, basically any Steel type that can hit it physically, you get the idea.

Aromatisse is strong, for sure, but it can oftentimes now find it hard to set up even a Wish. In the experimental/testing stages of this metagame both before and after it became spotlight this mon ran rampant simply because everybody was trying to run Balance and a lot of the meta was so undeveloped that we had things like Pikachu running around as the primary sweeper of choice.

On a personal level, I hate this thing in every way and I also want it gone so Mr. Mime can be king of the fairies,

but I cannot justify a ban beyond personal bias.

I am going to put off voting for now. I hope to play a bit more in the coming days. What I will say is this.

Marowak is definitely broken. If this was a simple yes/no vote, I would vote ban in an instant. But Thick Club complicates things a little.

As best as I can understand Smogon tiering policy if Thick Club breaks Marowak alone we should ban Marowak and leave Thick Club legal. While I think OMs have ignored that in the past, I'd prefer to abide by it personally. However Marowak-Alola, while significantly slower, is also an incredible nuke. So for me, the question is: Is Marowak-Alola ALSO broken? And I don't have an answer as of yet. This is one of the things I plan to test over the next few days.

Clearly neither is broken without Thick Club. I would rather find the solution that leaves us with no broken elements but the most remaining usable elements (without a complex ban of course). So if both are broken, ban Thick Club and leave the base Pokemon usable, even if they're not very viable. If only Kantonian Marowak is broken ban just that so we can use ~~Cubone~~ the Alolan one at its full potential.

On Aromatisse right now I'd just abstain. I don't have a well-formed opinion. This isn't a formal vote post tho just some musings.

Anyway I said I'd go to bed like an hour ago so zzzzzzzz

Ban - Thick Club
Shortly before TS AAA became spotlight I had a couple of games and quickly learnt how terrifying Marowak was when made faster. It's ability to 2hko almost any mon when unboosted makes it difficult enough to deal with, and then it gets Swords Dance on top of that which leaves very few if any counters. Here's a few calcs against a supposed splashable Marowak counter:
+2 252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Thunder Punch vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Mandibuzz in Strong Winds and Electric Terrain: 313-369 (73.9 - 87.2%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+2 252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Mandibuzz in Strong Winds: 278-328 (65.7 - 77.5%) -- 25% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+2 252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak-Alola Flare Blitz vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Mandibuzz: 441-520 (104.2 - 122.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
The last calc in particular is important as it shows that Kanto Marowak isn't the only threat. This is why I think it's clear that Thick Club is the problem, as Alolan Marowak is even more deadly with sun up and even Cubone could potentially pop up with it's reasonable 135 defense stat and 90 attack. The closest thing I've seen to an actual counter so far is Levitate Probopass, which can only poison Marowak and sit there like an idiot as it boosts up and breaks through, or switches Knock Off for Brick Break/Low Kick if Levitate becomes popular as a counter to it.

No Ban - Aromatisse
For all the hype it got early on, nobody even runs it now, though that might have to do with how easily Marowak breaks it. I've also noticed that Cresselia is capable of the same Poison Heal Calm Mind set with even better defenses, albeit much lower offensive power and less PP on it's healing move. It is capable of runaway setup against teams that can't kill it quick enough, though the same could be said of a few things such as Curselax. I think for now the best plan would be to remove Thick Club and wait to see if it suddenly becomes overpowered in a boneless meta, but also feel it's worth mentioning that some very splashable mons such as Magearna are perfectly capable of dealing with it (Heart Swap Magearna in particular). Nonetheless, it is a still a potent mon capable of a few sets like Poison Heal, Unaware, and Magic Bounce that may prove to be a problem in the future.

I'm going to vote Ban Thick Club. I used a Swords Dance Marowak during the tournament, and I didn't even use Swords Dance once. Its Attack was already enough to sweep. As for Aromatisse...I can't really say anything because I only encountered it once and it was killed by my Marowak before it could do anything.

Some thoughts on the suspected mons. EDIT: This is not a vote, just some thoughts. Ill vote later this week.

Marowak, Club and Alowak

Marowak is blessed by 3 things in TS AAA. Being tiered into PU, access to Thick Club and the ability to run speed doubling abilities that let it threaten offensive teams. I know the mods want to avoid complex bans whenever possible, but perhaps a Marowak without speed doubling abilities would be way less opressive. Something to think about, at least.

The one reason I became hesitant to outright ban the Wak is that I fear stall would become unbeatable after losing this nightmarish wallbreaker that heavily pressures defensive teams. Preventing it from doubling it's speed lets it terrorize bulkier teams, while being forced out by any fast heavy hitter such as Noivern, Aerodactyl etc.

If it came down to banning Marowak or Club, I'm currently inclined to voting for a Marowak ban. The primary reason being that doing so lets us keep using Alowak, which is much less powerful than its Kantoan cousin for a few reasons:

- While Fire/Ghost is arguably a better offensive typing than Ground, Ground is far better defensively. Ground means resisting rocks, which are otherwise threateing for Alowak, chipping of 25% on every switchin. Therefore hazard control becomes much more important on a team with Alowak as a primary wallbreaker - meaning that more resources need to be dedicated to ensuring hazards stay off the field. It also means Alowak loses to Regirock, a popular Stealth Rocker (and alot of other rockers, being weak to rock and ground), meaning that u cant just switch it in on predicted rocks to avoid the chip. Having to keep rocks off your side of the field means its harder to keep your rocks up as well - making sweeps and wallbreaking harder.

- RU vs PU means a 100bst difference, which is pretty sizable in terms of offensive presence, bulk and speed (when doubled).

- Ghost makes you weak to foulplay. While Marowak could arguably afford to set up on a weakened Mandibuzz in order to pick up the KO after it tries to Foulplay you, Alowak cant afford to do that, further constricting its ssweeping potential.

TLDR on Wak, CLub and Alowak: Ban Wak, not club. Alowak is alot more fragile than Kantowak.

My thoughts:
BAN Marowak

Stat: 60 HP / 120 Atk / 150 Def / 90 SpA / 120 SpD / 85 Spe
Its too strong, plus a Ground typing and solid bulk to have decent set-up opportunity. Others are already mentioned how broken it is, so i'm not gonna repeat it.

Stat: 60 HP / 100 Atk / 130 Def / 70 SpA / 100 SpD / 65 Spe

I don't recall seeing Marowak-Alola a lot, the recent replay posted by drampa's grandpa didn't show any significant way of how broken it is and only one provided by GΔCT. It has more flaws than its Kantonian Form. It has lesser stats, 20 Stat reduction each is noticeable. While it possesses a great Ghost/Fire STAB combination, it is weak to Stealth Rock and the fact its strongest STAB is its recoil move Flare Blitz, it is worn down too fast. While this can be mitigated with something like Magic Guard, it is slow without a speed boost that, in fact, some defensive pokemon can just speed creep Adamant variants or maximum Speed variants altogether.

Stats: 80 HP / 140 Atk / 240 Def / 90 SpA / 140 SpD / 90 Spe

Take this Regirock for example, not only it has gigantic Physical bulk and a Fire-resistance, it is also faster than Marowak-Alola. ( 90 Speed vs 65 Speed is a noticeable difference)

Regirock @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator / Sand Stream / Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake

Putting 56 Speed EVs will ensure that this Regirock will outspeed Adamant Marowak-Alola. If it runs Jolly nature instead, +2 Earthquake will have small chance of OHKOing Regirock after Stealth Rock.

+2 252 Atk Thick Club Marowak-Alola Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Regirock: 276-326 (75.8 - 89.5%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Mandibuzz (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Delta Stream / Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 192 Def / 64 Spe
Impish Nature
- Foul Play
- Roost
- U-turn
- Knock Off

Jellicent @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 192 Def / 64 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Recover
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hex

These 2 Defensive Pokemon, despite being neutral or weak to one of Marowak-Alola's STAB, are fast enough to outspeed it and hit with a super-effective move.

Any Choice Scarf user with 104 Speed can outspeed Marowak-Alola under Chlorophyll, Sand Rush or whatever speed boosting ability it had, and its not that hard to find one:
- PU pokemon and below with 64 Speed and above
- NU pokemon with 74 Speed and above
- RU pokemon with 84 Speed and above
- UU pokemon with 94 Speed and above

It is a Ghost-Type too, which it is weak to Pursuit. There are also some non-Dark-Type pokemon with Pursuit, but has a STAB that can threaten Marowak-Alola.

This Aerodactyl is an example:
252 Atk Choice Band Aerodactyl Pursuit (80 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Marowak-Alola: 214-254 (81.9 - 97.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
While its not enough to actually OHKO it, Marowak-Alola will leave heavily weakened and just die from Stealth Rock or a Flare Blitz recoil.

Conclusion, Ban Marowak, it is clearly the problem, to me at least. We don't have enough proof for making Marowak-Alola broken for me to ban Thick Club in general.

Stats: 101 HP / 102 Atk / 102 Def / 129 SpA / 119 SpD / 59 Spe
NO BAN Aromatisse
I don't think Aromatisse was broken yet. Its just so good, but not near broken.

I did test Nasty Plot Aromatisse on this replay, which I failed ( plus forgotten to change Frosttom's ability too).

0 SpA Aromatisse Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Metagross: 59-69 (16.2 - 18.9%) -- possible 6HKO
252+ SpA Tinted Lens Aromatisse Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Metagross: 156-186 (42.8 - 51%) -- 3.9% chance to 2HKO

You may wonder, why using Trick Room when i have something like MegaZam as my teammate? that's because its only used to help Aromatisse sweep against offensive team, especially those weather teams that some of our players uses sometimes and messes up with their Speed Tier :psysly:. Trick Room only last few turns so it won't really hurt its fast teammate that much. I did originally tried building a Trick Room team, but it will make this set too obvious. That's why i decided to used a non-trick room team, which can also help Aromatisse to bluff a defensive set, so some resist or relatively bulky mon go switch-in on Aromatisse and only to find out they take a lot of damage from Moonblast. I run Modest over Quiet with 0 Speed IVs because I prefer to attack immediately after one turn of set-up against slow walls like per say, Heart Swap Magearna or some Gyro Ball steel users with the use of few speed investment rather than setting up Trick Room against them and gave them a chance to Toxic or phaze out.

Miscellaneous Calc:
252+ SpA Aromatisse Twinkle Tackle (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Marowak: 267-315 (102.2 - 120.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Aromatisse Twinkle Tackle (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Aerodactyl: 300-354 (99.6 - 117.6%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

252+ SpA Tinted Lens Aromatisse Twinkle Tackle (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Roserade: 258-304 (98.8 - 116.4%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

252+ SpA Aromatisse Twinkle Tackle (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Rotom-Frost: 223-264 (92.5 - 109.5%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO

252+ SpA Tinted Lens Aromatisse Twinkle Tackle (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Camerupt: 276-326 (80.2 - 94.7%) -- 50% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

+2 252+ SpA Tinted Lens Aromatisse Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Roserade: 280-330 (107.2 - 126.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+2 252+ SpA Tinted Lens Aromatisse Twinkle Tackle (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Registeel: 306-360 (84 - 98.9%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

This set is not broken, however. This Aromatisse set will forgo a lot of bulk and needs to be healthy to be effective. It also can't run both Wish and Protect on one slot.

One set:

Stat: 75 HP / 95 Atk / 150 Def / 95 SpA / 150 SpD / 115 Spe
Uxie @ Heat Rock / Terrain Extender
Ability: Drought / Psychic Surge / Electric Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 140 Def / 120 Spe
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- U-turn / Memento
- Knock Off
- Psychic

Uxie is a decent setter. That speed investment is to outspeed Marowak and Knock Off its precious Thicc Club, Uxie is just too fast to Slow Pivot effectively, even with min speed.
