BH Balanced Hackmons

Posting here after after a long time break because this crazy game I am malding over:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9balancedhackmons-2107390029-79xm8st9wwd8wnf965epn1btkm85ajspw

Opponent got all the para's when they needed then, all the crits when they needed them. There is physically nothing I can do about this RNG. Tagging Kris to fix, this is unbelievable.
Gonna analyze the crits here. Set assumptions will be made for obvious reasons.

Kyogre vs Arceus
252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyogre Steam Eruption vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Arceus-Ghost in Rain: 345-406 (77.7 - 91.4%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
Even with absolute max spA, it was only a 31.3% chance. Crit very likely mattered.

Kyogre vs Chansey
252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyogre Steam Eruption vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Kyogre-Primal in Heavy Rain: 139-164 (19.4 - 22.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
If their set is what I assume it is, crit did not matter. Of course, it easily could have mattered if their set is different. This one is ambiguous, but they're most likely choiced in one way or another

Giratina: 252 SpA Giratina Astral Barrage vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Metagross-Mega: 242-288 (66.4 - 79.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
This crit did not matter.

Paras were all rng. And of course, whether each crit actually mattered, I must say.

Unfortunate doesn't begin to describe your sequence-

scarf blacephalon appreciation post
Blacephalon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Naughty Nature
- V-create
- Moongeist Beam / Astral Barrage
- Volt Switch / Strength Sap
- Trick

Yes, there are flaws with this thing. It suffers from rocks weakness and a bit of 4mms. It wants either astral for power or moongeist to bypass ice scales. it wants either volt switch for pivot or sap for recovery. Kinda fails against Take Heart arceus forms imo...

Now onto the upsides.
This thing's speed tier is legitimately insane. Scarf Blace legitimately outspeeds everything unboosted, and its crazy. Combined with its great mixed stats and Adaptability, it's almost guranteed to get at least one kill.

calcs
252+ Atk Adaptability Blacephalon V-create vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Steelix-Mega: 360-424 (101.6 - 119.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Adaptability Blacephalon Moongeist Beam vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Lunala: 672-792 (140.5 - 165.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Adaptability Blacephalon Moongeist Beam vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Flutter Mane: 316-372 (100.6 - 118.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Ik yall said that imposter is necessary to keep strong mons in check, but please, banning quiver dance yet keeping imposter is not logical. I understand that its crucial but it's really unbelievable annoying, wasting a slot for a blissey/chansey while restricting yourself for a pink blob instead of another team mate isnt really "fun"

Ik im being a karen but it's just aint fair

qd is something that's likely being retested in the near future. "banning qd but keeping imposter is not logical" also doesn't really make sense; qd was initially banned due to its strangulating effects (counterplay simply wasn't good, with resudial damage being the only way to punish qd users thanks to haze being terrible) and overall coverage-fish nature with that stuff was using it. imp by its nature can't have this coverage-fish effect, and its strangulation is largely in your control. imp is also useful on most structures but far from necessary, so i'm not quite sure where being restricted to a blob over another mon comes from.

just here to comment on how this is the worst place the metagame has ever been in. teams with no creativity just multitudes of regenerators and imposters with the same goal of using your own firepower against you. the fact that imposter isn't banned because "you need to be able to counter your own team" is a load of garbage because I've gotten around 20 things banned on my own just cause people didn't like versing it. every third game high ladder is literally just versing the same copy and paste team and it's contributing to how dead this meta is becoming. you used to have hundreds of different team variants that all experimented different working strats but now the options for success are so thin that people all use the same teams. there's no reward for being creative in this meta anymore. gg

It's incredible that your default avatar happened to be Blissey. Truly, this is a blessed post.

Incorrect. Regenerator mons are not even close to being top tier. Multi-Imp teams are very rare and generally not optimal.

Incorrect. Imposter being best mon in a BH meta wow crazy shocking. People arguing for "Imposter ban" need to actually argue correctly for the reasons why it is being an issue in the meta (i.e. arguing for Chansey ban is unironically reasonable even if invalid tiering-wise) instead of just whining for skill issue reasons.
And no you are not the reason around 20 things are banned lol. The most credit a single player has towards banning something this gen would be Onyx for Baton Pass.

This is like a completely unrelated issue to the meta when there are only a few players actively laddering in high ladder of course they are going to be using the same teams?
there's no reward for being creative in this meta anymore.
Incorrect, sounds like personal issue when I know players like Akira are doing completely fine experimenting with unorthodox builds.

Quick blurb about my thoughts on the meta:

Offensive set building is hard. Really gotta be creative to come up with a set that can't easily be countered by the current meta. It feels like a few big FurScales runners (Arceus mainly) are suppressing a lot of offensive potential.

Arceus in general, can function not only as a tank, but give it a bit of time it can become a threatening sweeper with a few turns of Take Heart.

Take Heart is a buff to special bulky sets that feels unneeded. Not only are there limited counter option to special attack in general (lack of Sap/Burn equivalent) but now these sets get a free status removal.

The Mega Steelix Set - We all know it: RegenVest Steelix, StAxe, Knock Off, Mortal Spin/Nuzzle, U-Turn (or whatever mirror set is being played nowadays). There is nothing I love more than wasting the first 4 turns of a game playing the exact same move as my opponent. Not overpowered in any sense, but just really, REALLY boring.

Covert Cloak is cool. Sadly though, it is a bit too commonplace as an item. Its a small pebble in your shoe when used on Special Tanks that pair with Salt Cure very well, but they basically need it.

The presence of Mega Evos is a bit of a turn off for me. It feels like a rip off version of Nat Dex Hackmons. The meme equivalent would be Nat Dex Hackmons at home. G9 has it's own share of mechnically complicated moves and abilities, which as I have said many months prior, is reflective of a shift in the way GF is structuring battles to be more diverse and situational. Things like Toxic Chain or Terapagos, which I can see having really interesting builds, are outshined by things from previous generations which work as a panacea of sorts.

Weather is fun. The biggest drawback is that you usually need to waste a slot to have a weather setter that isn't good for much else. The following Greninja set shreds through everything with rain and rocks set up. I tried making a sun based equivalent though no candidate really suits the requirements.

Greninja-Ash (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Tinted Lens
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Rash Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Water Spout
- Steam Eruption
- Moongeist Beam
- Volt Switch

Mewtwo. No other context will be provided.

Edge cases like Wandering Spirit and Magician are always fun to play against. I personally don't find myself using them due to the small amount of actual viability they have. Wandering Spirit is specifically a Regenerator counter, and given how Regenerators switch in and out often, there's little room to have long term play with Wandering Spirit.

In conclusion, stale meta, hard to set build. Rarely will I have a good battle against Quantum or Akira.

Fair. Me just being annoyed at 200 round games.

Imposter requires 0 creativity which I feel is the main purpose of the metagame.

Incorrect. There used to be a time where each member at the top of the ladder had different teams.

Experimenting is fine but I'm talking about winning consistently

teams with no creativity just multitudes of regenerators
alright i think i need to comment a bit as the person catalyzing that stupid wandering spirit stall up back ladder again

there's like a lot of creativity in bh teams rn if you've been looking at recent pastes. the variety in wallbreakers and walls are pretty diverse and you're never actually strapped for options if you want unusual picks or a specific need to fit in 1 slot in mind. so idk where you've been getting this "0 creativity" thing from, especially when ladder usually refuses to use standard stuff anyways

i have a really stupid idea
a balanced hackmons playlist
like a playlist specifically for this tier
what would you put in it

also here's an interesting set since I don't want to veer off-topic

delete this (Necrozma-Dusk-Mane) @ Leftovers

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe

- Strength Sap

primary weakness is it loses to the mass amounts of dark coverage there are with knock off everywhere

Where can I see sample teams (now)
What do I type in the pokemon showdown room?
Sample teams aren’t here rn however if they were you would type the command /sampleteams bh

Problem with fc steels is that they lose to common coverage cycles of fighting/ground/fire and in this case psychic is weak to gren and doesn’t resist u turn
Here’s a mon that isn’t weak to gren or u turn tho
https://pokepast.es/4917639654838389
I’ve talked abt iron hands before as a way to beat gren + lucario M but this is a way to beat gren + mega chomp in one slot as well thanks to ground resist. More weak to sr then iron hands and weak to vc/ladder -ate pop bomb tho.
It also has a fighting resist, minor weight vs korai and Luca m with some prediction requirements.
God ash gren needs to be fucking banned.

Imposter once again positive winrate. Doing some rough calculations Imposter team vs non-Imp team winrate is somewhere between 12-0 and 35-23, giving a minimum winrate of 60.3% and more realistically around 67%. Pretty consistent with past tournament stats. Also fantastic winrate for Imp lead.
Some suspicious higher usage rate mons but thats most likely due to recycled teams and shared teams (e.g. magearna r1 due to sample subs).

hey uh remember like 3 days ago i mentioned a wandering spirit stall cause i’m actually submitting it for samples now

importable
Team name: INVERSION - Wandering Spirit Dialga-O + Regenerator spam Stall

Synopsis:
This is a stall structure built around hazard stacking + double regenerator users & wandering spirit to cheese recovery off of imposter copying them. Scout early game with imposter, spam hazards & block removal attempts with either dialga-o or giratina, and then make crazy progress with either dialga-o moves or giratina phazing + double sapblocking. shamelessly copied from my stunfisk rmt because i’m lazy

Weaknesses: Mixed attackers like Iron Valiant or Ultra Necrozma, Psystrike Mega Alakazam and Lunala. These carry 0 longevity though so sometimes you can just outlast them with hazards & good positioning. Magic Guard users are a pain, adequate hazard removal blocking is also a problem.

Effectiveness: peaked #1 on ladder relatively easily, other people has also picked it up and did similarly well

Other options: Judgment > Scald on Waterceus is usable if you’re paranoid about Normalize.

on a side note, the wandering spirit dialga-o is cool but i don’t really think it fits on regular balance structures. you 100% need a regen user on your own team to guarantee value from wandering spirit, since otherwise if you don’t load into opposing regen then the dialga-o could very well just be another ability like your own regen or unaware/furscales and work just as well

Good taste in HSR, bad taste in Greninja sets.

Imposter user's seething right now.

Incorrect. There used to be a time where each member at the top of the ladder had different teams.
Not trying to devalue the point being made here, but the back and forth "incorrect" sounds like the kindergarten equivalent of "nuh-uh, my dad works at Microsoft"

Also, thing I've been experimenting with recently:
Solar Power - This seems like an interesting offensive ability with the theoretical damage output here is 1.5(Solar Power) * 1.5(STAB) *1 5(Weather) * [1.2~1.5](Item) which is roughly a [4~5]x damage boost. Main drawback is there are not a lot of good Pokemon/Moves for this set. Eruption's power is negated by Solar Power's HP reduction, Fire types in general take 25% to rocks in a Stone Axe heavy meta. Charizard-Mega-Y is a bit slow and take 50% to rocks. Burn Up mandates Arceus and so does Judgement-Fire, but Arceus is much more useful elsewhere. There is also the inherent problem with needing a Pokemon to set up Sunny Day or the like.

Here's something dumb I slapped together and won a few battles with. Wonder if Akira can do anything special with this ability.

I've been running fur coat Buzzwole recently, and it is quite solid as a counter. It also tanks megachomp pretty easily.

Going through the banlist and find several things that could be freed:
Liquid Ooze:
Banning things like this for competitivity may cause the loss of metagame popularity, which should be a bigger issue now.
Lumina Crash:
I was strongly opposed to its ban at that point and even more so after MMX's gone.
Photon Geyser:
MMX's gone *2.
Fillet Away:
Freeing this mid setup move may add some non-linearity to the meta. Tbh playing with multipliers all day can't be called fun.
Shedinja:
This may look crazy but Shedinja was banned in Gen 8 mainly because of the addition of Heavy-Duty-Boots. Now it has to choose from Heavy-Duty-Boots AND Covert Cloak which is a huge hold-back. Plus we have moldy Moves so it sometimes also needs Ability Shield.

General Thoughts:
1. Linear Format is far from fun. I knock out your 2x SpD defensive Pokemon with my offensive one because I have 1.5x1.5x=2.25x SpA which is bigger. If machines play Pokemon they should play exactly in this way. I don't mean it's bad or really unfun but a metagame shouldn't be fully filled with this.

2. We should allow a certain extent of "broken checks broken". All the things I proposed above are good additions to "unbalance" the meta. With Ooze, Lumina, Photon and FA defensive teams can't totally rely on the Furscales TH Sap boilerplate. And with Shedinja in, offensive teams should give up slots to deal with it, which somehow relieves the pressure on defensive teams.

3. For those who argue they are trying out fun sets and they work pretty well, here's now a big tour to prove that.
