[OVERVIEW]

  • Butterfree's access to Quiver Dance, along with Tinted Lens, makes it tough to bypass once it's set up.
  • Butterfree's strategic usages of Substitute and Sleep Powder allow it to set up on common stall Pokemon with ease, allowing Butterfree to clear through the opposing team's defenses without a care.
  • However, Butterfree's dual weakness to Stealth Rocks combined with it's overall frailty and nonresistance to common types make it relatively weak defensively.

Moves
========

  • Bug Buzz is Butterfree's strongest STAB of choice, allowing it to bypass Substitute, and with the combination of Tinted Lens, even deals an effective amount of damage against Pokemon who resist Bug-type moves, like Swanna or Silvally-Fighting.
  • Quiver Dance is one of the most powerful set-up moves in the game, allowing for a boost of Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed, Meaning Butterfree can outspeed most of the unboosted metagame.
  • Sleep Powder is great for Butterfree to set up, as landing a Sleep Powder means the opponent will either have to switch out and allow Butterfree to use Quiver Dance, or it allows Butterfree to use Bug Buzz without worrying about being hit.
  • Substitute is also a good tool for Butterfree's set up, allowing Butterfree to potentially be able to use multiple Quiver Dances until it is broken.
Set Details
========

  • Buginium Z allows Butterfree to make a solid dent in Pokemon that still resist Bug Buzz even after Tinted Lens' multiplier, such as Combusken and Mawile.
  • Maximum speed investment means Butterfree can outspeed most of the unboosted metagame after a Quiver Dance.
Usage Tips
========
  • Butterfree should come in on Stall Pokemon or Pokemon who have a tendency to play defensively, such as Gourgeist-Super and Mareanie.
  • It should use Substitute and save a Sleep Powder for when it comes against a potential threat, such as a Pokemon who can resist Butterfree's attack or can outspeed via Choice Scarf or setup, Such as Scarf Electivire and Combusken.
  • Pokemon that are locked into a move that Butterfree can dual-resist or be immune to, such as Exeggutor with Leaf Storm or Giga Drain, or Electivire with Earthquake, allow Butterfree to either pull off a Sleep Powder on a switch-in or a Substitute set up or Quiver Dance.
Team Options
========

  • Rapid Spinners such as Komala and Sandslash are very useful, as they can clear the Stealth Rocks that plague Butterfree.
  • Sandslash and Silvally-Ground in particular are helpful hazard removers, resisting Butterfree's weakness to Rock-types such as Golem and Crustle, and being defensively capable enough to either force them out or take them out.
  • Silvally-Water and Silvally-Dragon both have merits as defoggers, as they both resist Butterfree's other weaknesses to Fire and Ice, and Fire and Electric respectively.
  • Stealth Rock setters such as Golem, Sandslash, and Crustle can help Butterfree, as any chip damage to opposing threats is very well needed, especially since it covers Butterfree's weakness to opposing Fire and Flying types, such as Swanna, Oricorio, and Rapidash.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Leftovers can be used over Buginium Z if the Z-Move slot on your team has already been taken up, providing Butterfree with some passive healing.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Stealth Rocks and Rock-types**: Stealth Rocks are the bane of Butterfree's existence, because Butterfree takes a whopping 50% of it's health chipped off, and then can be worn down easily after that. Golem and Crustle can also OHKO Butterfree with Stone Edge, and their Resistances and defensive capabilities allow them to survive at least one of Butterfree's unboosted hits. Rock Blast also can get through Butterfree's substitute, and can even kill with only 2 hits.

**Dual-Resists**: Pokemon who dual-resist Bug Buzz, such as Mawile, Oricorio, Monferno and Combusken can most likely take a Bug Buzz and KO back with a STAB move, due to how frail Butterfree is. However, Butterfree can use Buginium-Z to do sufficient damage against these Pokemon.

**Fast Pokemon** Butterfree's inability to outspeed common Scarfers and High-Speed Pokemon such as Combusken, Swanna, Floatzel, and Electivire can easily outspeed and kill Butterfree with their respective STABs. Unfortunately, it is very possible to encounter at least one of these every game, and they will need to be taken out first by a teammate if Butterfree wants to clean up.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Butterfree's access to Quiver Dance, along with Tinted Lens, makes it tough to bypass once it's set up. Solid, should be more detailed.

  • However, Butterfree's dual weakness to Stealth Rocks combined with it's overall frailty and nonresistance to common types make it relatively weak defensively.
Overview needs to be beefed up. Should make a first point explaining Butterfree's niche. Current point does that somewhat and should clearly state what Butterfree's niche is (QD sweeper/breaker depending on what it faces). Should also make a point of how Tinted Lens Bug Buzz plays into Butterfree's niche. As for negatives, in addition to the one point you have, mention how easy it is to force Butterfree (lack of setup opportunities) and how its Speed leaves it easily revenge killed by Scarfers.

  • Substitute is also a good tool for Butterfree's set up, allowing Butterfree to potentially be able to use multiple Quiver Dances until it is broken. Mention what Butterfree can Sub on
Set Details
========

  • Buginium Z allows Butterfree to make a solid dent in Pokemon that still resist Bug Buzz even after Tinted Lens' multiplier, such as Combusken and Mawile. It also allows Butterfree to beat Soundproof users such as Mr. Mime
  • Maximum speed investment means Butterfree can outspeed most of the unboosted metagame after a Quiver Dance. Fluff
Usage Tips
========
  • Butterfree should come in on Stall Pokemon or Pokemon who have a tendency to play defensively, such as Gourgeist-Super and Mareanie. Explain why, esp since Gourg can leech and Mareanie can run Toxic
It should just use QD rather than Sleep Powder the switch-in or Sub on a switch-in that prevents it from doing anything (QD into Sleep Powder is better)
Mention when Butterfree should break versus when it should sweep. For example, if the opponent has a Scarfer, Butterfree and its teammates should focus on breaking that. Butterfree should only attempt a sweep when Pokemon that revenge kill it or quad resist Bug Buzz are eliminated. On the other hand, against bulkier teams, Butterfree can opt to break and weaken the opposing team to help its teammates sweep later on.

Team Options
========

  • Rapid Spinners such as Komala and Sandslash are very useful, as they can clear the Stealth Rocks that plague Butterfree. They also have Knock Off which is great at whittling down Butterfree checks such as Bronzor, Lickilicky, and Altaria.
Give examples of Pokemon Silv-Water and Silv-Dragon check, helps illustrate why they're good Butterfree partners.
I get what you mean and "covers" comes off as SR putting Fire- and Flying-types out of the game, so just say SR helps weaken them and makes it easier for Butterfree to sweep.
Mention offensive Pokemon that pair well with Butterfree (i.e Choice Scarf Electivire to check birds, faster threats, and bringing Butterfree in via Volt Switch and Poliwrath for checking Golem, Combusken, and bulky Normal-types offensively). Should also point out that the Silvally types are fantastic partners because of U-turn bringing Butterfree in safely.

Mention Choice Scarf Mr. Mime, with Soundproof it can counter Butterfree if Savage Spinout has bee used.

Make a section for **Fire-types** as those are extremely relevant here.
