The Player

Issue 11

We're back at it again! Issue 11 brings several fun things to the table, such as a new series on the Best of the Worst on PS, a guide to building teams for older generations, and the return of A Trivial Showdown, for you puzzle junkies desperately needing your weekly fix. I'd also like to congratulate both f(x) and Quarkz on their promotion to Moderator of The Player. Additionally, MiniArchitect has come onto our team as an art QC member in lieu of brightobject's departure. Take a second and message them a few kind words!

Issue 10

The last ten issues of this webzine have been an absolute blast to put together! Finally, though, after many months at the helm, I'm handing over full control to antemortem and the rest of the staff, who I'm sure will do a superb job. It has been wonderful to see a media project flourish like this from start to the future, and I look forward to seeing what's in store. This issue, I also decided to write an article (hopefully not too badly) about starting The Player up and how myself and Scene got it going — I hope you enjoy it at least a little!

Issue 9

Our ninth installment of The Player includes includes some great articles, put together by our wonderful contributors. If you're interested in becoming one of them, be sure to check out our contribution guidelines! In other news, shaymin, one of our staff, has decided to leave her role as The Player staff — we wish her well with any future endeavours and thank her for all her contributions over the last few months!

Issue 8

This issue is pretty great. We have an interview with newly-promoted PS Moderator Skitty, an intro to the VGC room, and a summary of how you can get involved with OM tournaments! We also have some infrastructure changes, which involves a brand new PS room for prospective contributors to get involved with!

Issue 7

This issue is brimful of changes! We're switching to a biweekly(ish) release cycle, which means your articles will be even more up-to-date. As a compromise of this, the issues will include slightly fewer articles than normal, but the quality will still be there.

Issue 6

This is the second issue this month, but the first issue without Scene as an editor. It's been a fantastic experience working with him as a co-leader and we all wish him well as he moves through university. It's a massive shame to see him go, but I hope you enjoy this issue just as much!

Issue 5

Welcome back, everybody. Issue #5 rolls up with a pretty varied lineup of articles - including a review of the latter stages of PSPL II, a teambuilder 101 and tips on how to win the Lobby. As per usual, they're all thanks to our contributors, who devoted hours of their precious time to turn varied jumbled thoughts into a finished product.

Issue 4

Hello, readers!
This month has been pretty exciting - both on the sim and in the webzine. PSPL II has just finished recently, with Italiano being crowned the winners after weeks of intense battling. A well-deserved grats to them. The webzine has also had a lick of paint from Quarkz, who's been updating the layout so that it's exceptionally easy on the eye...

Issue 3

Issue 3 is here, and as usual we've had an absolute flood of submissions. As a result, this is our biggest issue yet, hitting a grand total of 13 articles. Included amongst those is an interview with our poll winner Scotteh, your questions answered by our admins, and a look at the private communities on the sim.

I'd also like to congratulate Antemortem, Electrolyte and shaymin and for receiving the Media Contributor badge on Smogon, almost entirely for Player work for the first two and partly in the latter case.

Issue 2

Welcome to Issue 2 of The Player! I'm not quite sure what I was expecting from Issue 1, to be honest - the popularity of PS obviously gave me hope, but having 7,500 views on our release thread (funnily enough, that's the exact amount) is hugely satisfying. It's an apt recognition of the fantastic quality of the articles and art we received, and it's our stellar contributors who make the project something worth being a part of. I'd like to give a particular shoutout to Andrew for the extremely cute cover art...

Issue 1

Welcome to the very first issue of The Player! In the past few months, we've come a long way from the webzine's inception to now. This issue features 10 articles (including this piece) as well as some fantastic cover art by Blue Frog, who also created the webzine's logo. This issue's design is all in blue—the primary color of PS too. Quarkz and Quinella assisted with creating the issue layout (they added the sliding effect) and we'll be looking to improve on that in the coming issues...
